Specific coffee shops with Jazz on their music playlists?

Okay, heres what I AM looking for. Any or all of these things: A chance to spark up some excelent smoke and listen to Jazz (be it Nu or Trad), chill, perhaps read a book, order some good food and a milkshake, over look a canal and watch the world outside go by, perhaps a patio and friendly service.
Here's what I'm NOT looking for: Overcrowded, loud techno, commercialised dingy cramped holes in a noisy part of the city, poor customer relations.
With all that said... simply a good vibe and a chance to listen to some good Jazz... Can anyone here help me?

I don't know if I've heard any jazz played - but Siberie is a very nice chilled space with your other requirements

Its interesting to see how each shop gains a very particular clientele, with the exception of whirlwind tourists, that is. Perhaps the Barneys Lounge on Reguilersgracht just south of Rembrandtplein is right for you. The music changes up, but the vibe is always quiet and laid back, and its never packed like the one near the station. In fact, the last time I was there, I watched a Jazz concert on their big screen. I like it there alot. Also, plenty of comfort to read and very near my favorite scenic spot in town right on the canal. Perfect view day or night.

Also, if there aren't many people in a shop and you build a litle rapport, ask for some jazz, some tenders are surprisingly cool about that.

Great start to my trip in 24 hours. I'm only in the city for four nights. I do know my way around as I have been quite a few times. It's great to get up to date info on these shops as I am sure things have changed since my last visit three years ago when I used to visit the sometimes crowded Abraxas. Wanted a more personal orientated coffee shop and you folks have given me some good leads...
One other quick question to JBomb... I notice you organise a tour of coffee shops... I'm quite interested in tagging along for one of those.

What's a good Mild high smoke at the moment in the Dam, in regards to hash and weed?

It's not a coffeeshop, but the Alto Jazz Cafe at Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 115 is smoker friendly, serves alcohol, and is open late (4 AM) on Friday and Saturday. It is just off Leidseplein on the same street as CS Rookies, just a few doors down.

I really like this place. Rokerij is on a parallel street, just a short walk away.

Thanks Lafe for this info. Sounds just right for a chance to chill out and listen to some good live music... Weds night sounds like a great night to visit.

on mondays the hotel next to hunters coffeeshop on warmostraat has a open jam featuring jazz. can't think of the name off the top of my head even thou i stayed there on my last trip. the open jam was cool, the place was not smoker friendly but as i said, hunters is right next do

I'm with filmchap here. Can't believe there isn't a jazz themed coffee shop! Louis, Dizzy, Art and Miles were smoking bifters while Bob Marley was still a sperm. Jazz and grass were meant for each other. I reckon there's an opening for some jazz-minded, pot-smoking entrepreneur. I, for one, can't think of anything better than laying back with a pipe full of grass, while Coltrane launches in to a solo around me.

PS. There is the most excellent Israeli tenor play called Yaniv Nachum that plays at the Casablanca some nights. If you get the chance, check him out. The whole band blew me away so much, I flew them over to our Jazz Club in Dorset (UK) to play.
