Re: Craft brew scene
Funny, I never thought my first post on this site would be about beer…
As a home brewer and craft beer enthusiast myself, I have been doing a little research on this subject lately. http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/city/42 has some pretty good info on bars, stores and breweries in Amsterdam. The Jopen Brewery in Haarlem (discussed here: https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/viewt ... 22&t=22606) seems to be worth a visit, also.
I was actually thinking about taking a day trip into Belgium with the ultimate goal being La Chouffe brewery (those gnomes know how to brew some beer!). Searching the internet, it doesn’t seem possible to get anywhere near there (Achouffe, Belgium) using public transportation. I was wondering if anyone here has made that voyage or if any locals with knowledge of the public transportation system know if it is even possible to get there by train or bus?
Any info is appreciated.

OP- This is truly a great resource, and not just for Amsterdam- just look around the site. Ron, the creator/keeper of the beer guide, can answer your specific questions, just shoot him an email. He's usually in De Wildemans (in the back room to the right) on Saturday afternoons having a brew with a group of ex-pats.Balou wrote:Try the Beer Temple near the Dam. Also plenty of info on the following site. http://www.europeanbeerguide.net/pubs.htm
If you're up for a day-trip to Texel island, they've got a brewery...

Take/rent a bike and add some pedaling to the day.
enjoy

Now for the obvious question. Are there any craft beer bars that are marijuana friendly? Failing craft beer bars, is there a list of regular bars that are smoker friendly? I really enjoy a cold lager and a joint.

There is a list, use the blue search link to find it.amstajunkie wrote:Now for the obvious question. Are there any craft beer bars that are marijuana friendly? Failing craft beer bars, is there a list of regular bars that are smoker friendly? I really enjoy a cold lager and a joint.

Well the problem presented is one of what search string to use. The search string I used previously pointed me to a thread about toker friendly bars in haarlem but nothing on Amsterdam proper. Unless I just missed it. If you happen to know the link why not just share it?

American beer is like sex in a canoe. Fucking, near water.
Any beer you order from anywhere has a very good chance to be better than factory beer so popular here. I ordered the house lager with dinner at the Irish restaurant in the entertainment district and it as the best beer of my life... But I'm no beer connoisseur, so enjoy!! Your in for many treats I'm sure!
