Takin' the wife (aka god help me)

Please help me, my wife has announced that she wants to come to amsterdam with me in February, I have been to amsterdam four times before but only with friends, I literally have no idea where I could take her other than all the coffeeshops I have been to in the past,
If any of my fellow tokers could recommend 'touristy' things to do I will be forever in their debt

Im in a similar situation, travelling to Amsterdam in March with my wife, her first visit.

Some excellent ideas, I am interested in world war 2 and have never heard of the Verzetsmuseum I will defiantly seek that out, thanks again any input on ideas positive or negative are always welcomed

Just one more sightseeing tip that might be of interest. If you want a good bird's eye view of the city, one of the best places to get that is at the top of the Westerkerk. That's the church with the tall tower right next to the Anne Frank house. They'll give you a tour of the tower and then let you take photos at the top. I think it costs 7 euro per person. They have a similar tour for the Oudekerk, which is an even older church. It's the one in the RLD. Personally, they were both worth the money.

One word of warning though - if you decide to walk there after a cursory study of a city map, beware that it's nowhere near as far away from centraal station as it looks on paper - I badly overshot my estimate when I went there and ended up in what looked like quite a dodgy residential area

The museum itself is in quite a nice part of town, so if you're walking and your immediate surroundings take a noticeable dip, double back - you've gone too far

I had a bit of trouble finding it as well coming from the Tropenmusuem (Museum of the Tropics), which is a bit east of the Verzetsmuseum (as opposed to Centraal, which is west). Only upon arrival at the Verzetzmuseum did I realize that it's next door to the well-known Artis Zoo.

Take a look at the bottom left part of the picture. The loft has been made into a space age living capsule of some kind. Very futuristic in a very traditional looking town.

really curious on this thread as well

my first trip to dam was with my wifey, luckily shes a stoner, so she was cool with checking all the coffeeshops
and learning about all the different strains, she was kinda surprised at how different weed can be

due to bad weather we usually ended up with going through the city gettin something to eat and then chillin in the hotel room.

second trip was with a bunch of friends including my wifey so we were showing our friends some remembered places and
if theres some more people theres always something to to.

now shes coming with me again and already said she does want to do something "touristy" and she also mentioned to see
some amsterdam insider places as well, places that the average tourist wouldnt see.
anyone of you veteranic amsterdam lads got an idea? on some bar or anything, please let me know what i shall not miss out on.

As the others have said, thanks for the suggestions in this thread. My wife is making her first trip to the Dam (or Europe for that matter) with me in April and I'm looking for ideas beyond my typical itinerary of Voyagers and FEBO.

Try taking her tohave a coffee and slice of cake at Metz & co (i think thats how it is spelt) it is at the top of the building and the view over the city is panoramic. a great place to rest up after a 20 min walk lol

I am a stoner chick, my mate and I took his 84 year old mother to Amsterdam (because every time we went she said, how much she would love to go- after about 15 trips, we started to feel guilty, and decided to invite her along) talk about fretting over what to do!

Long story short- she had a fabulous time. It is a great city to walk around in and window shop. When she needed a rest, we took her to a coffee shop with us. Of course she did not smoke, and we tried to keep her out of real smokey places. We explained that when in Amsterdam....well you know! The only back lash was his mom saying ahh, NOW I know what pot smells like! And I do not like the smell.. But, on the otherhand, She would love to return again.

Relax, have a great time. Treat your mates with love, kindness and respect and they will fall in love with the city.
