Day 2:

We're up fairly early and the sun is shining nicely into our windows, it's around freezing and windy, but looks to be a nice day. Still a little snow on the ground. Have breakfast and roll a few for the trip, then it's Kandy Kush as we walk to the tram. It's obviously working well because as we warm up in our seats, I've zoned out and almost missed our stop  ! At 10 am when we dive off the tram at Koningsplein by the floating Flower Market, the merchants are just opening up.

Image

The sun is holding out as we stroll through the market to the Muntplein and across the Amstel river, heading east at the first iron bridge. Two more mini bridges and we're on the Waterlooplein surrounding the City Hall complex, where the daily flea-market is held. Sometimes this place has great things and often it's only junk. Today was a good one and we left with bags in all hands :) . Our usual spot for a quiet smoke after this place is coffeeshop Reefer, just by Rembrandt House (or by coffeeshop Bluebird for those who navigate like Gapie). Always liked that sidewalk-level view when you sit at the front windows. My notes are curiously lacking this very bit of info, but I believe we bought some Budha's Sister here.

Image Image

The Budha's Sister; 12 euros, compact little nuggets, light spicy/ammonia smell, burns well, good buzz. About 7.5 out of 10 here.

Time is getting on, so we load up our treasures and head back to the tram. Back to the Bulldog on the Leidseplein and have hot drinks under their glass canopy, smoke some Kosher Kush and have a laugh at the buskers  . Time passes and the Kosher's couchlock wears thin, so we're leaving for the Hem hotel to nap. Big night ahead. Get up at 8 pm, then walk with some Champagne Haze to the tram which got re-directed around the Palace and Dam Square due to track repairs. We got a great buzz and we didn't zone-out on the way to the Greenhouse on Haarlemmerstraat. Prices here are always high, however there is usually a nice flavour-treat on the menu, today being no exception. We bought the Flowerbomb Kush and a gigantic ice-cream dessert that stood about 6” tall :D . We both love ice-cream, but the Flowerbomb won the taste test, so I bought another few g's and some OG Cream hash from the helpful BT. Happily stuffed and stoned, we relaxed to the old rock music, watched the under-floor fishtank and let the couchlock fade before heading a few blocks west to Barney's.

Image Image

The Flowerbomb Kush; 16 euros, big sticky buds, musky smell, deep musky taste with a sweet/perfumey note, burns well, expands in the lungs (first one to kick me like that), I actually forgot it was in my hand. Definitely an 8.5 out of 10, perhaps a shade better due to the couchlock factor.

The OG Cream hash; 18 euros, soft and sticky, light spicy smell, burns well, smooth long-lasting buzz. We're not qualified to judge good hash, but it seemed like the second best we had on the trip. Tied with several others; Riffman Sensibile, Lemon Maroc, and Zooltjes (I might have mis-spelled a name).

Barney's is another high-priced tourist trap, charging 3 euros for a cup of tea :x , but they have tasty things on the menu, also. Like the very yummy Liberty Haze, particularly delicious in the vape, and the not so thrilling Vanilla Kush, which still was nice enough. We picked one of the tiny two-person tables and vaped our way to Heaven on the Liberty Haze  , while watching those little video screens fixed into the wall. Stoned as I am, something in the video catches my attention; the grow-room the fellow is building on-screen is being done with a red Robertson screw-driver (Canadian invention and only user)! Sure enough the credits at the end say it's a Canuck production, how's that for street-cred in the Promised Land? :D

Image

The Liberty Haze; 16 euros, sweet citrus smell, lots of crystals, clear uplifting high, pure lemon taste like Ozium. An 8.5 and a tie with two others for best Haze of the trip.

The Vanilla Kush; 15 euros, big solid bud, crystals, not much smell, kind-of empty taste perhaps well-described as vanilla, good buzz. We gave this one a 7 mainly for the lack of taste.

A couple of pricey drinks later we decide it's time to move, so I check my notes for the treasures offered in local coffeeshops and we move east again to the original Dampkring for the Tbizzla Cream hash (I think that's the name). Sit and kill a fat Flowerbomb before walking to Centraal Station to catch the last tram. Back to the hotel for a little tubthumping and crash.

The Tbizzla hash; 14 euros, soft, smooth taste, great buzz (must have been because my notes stop there  ). We seem to have thought this was the best, tied with the Finger hash from Paradox.

*(next installment later tonight)*

Thanks for the comments, folks :) . I enjoy reading the travelogues you all post, too. That's what made me start writing here in the first place! :D

Okay here's the next day's fun:

Day 3:

Today we wake at the break of noon or thereabouts. Two tours of the City's finest establishments yesterday have taken their toll  . It's cold and windy, but the sun is holding strong so we bundle up and make for the Albert Cuyp market area. A large Vanilla Kush gets puffed along the adjacent canal as we walk to the tram.

Jump off at the Museumplein and walk east to find De Graal, but I get lost twice within four blocks of the place. Yes sir, yesterday had consequences! Determination (and pure blind luck) gets me to the door at last and the French? BT offers me his best advice. I'm on a mission, though, I've come for the High Rise and the Critical Kush. Downstairs seems a bit dingy and a trace of mildew, so we go upstairs and settle into the comfy chairs by the back windows. Art hangs on the walls and a chessboard sits on the table, but we're just here to relax a few minutes before moving to the market to shop. Then on with our search for Club Media and Katsu. We have a large High Rise  and head for Albert CuypStraat.

Image Image

The High Rise; 13 euros, tiny dense buds, strong citrus smell, sticky and lots of crystals, burns well, sharp lemon taste like Lemon Skunk, uplifting high. An 8.5 out of 10 ties it with two others for best Haze of the trip.

The Critical Kush; 12 euros, dense buds, lots of crystals, thick fruity smell, musky taste, great body stone, burns well. An 8.5 for this tasty strain, and if I considered price in my ratings (I didn't), this would have been a 9 and tied for best Kush with Grey Area's Kosher.

Now we're gliding through Albert Cuyp market, riding the wave of the High Rise. So much to see here with multiple varieties of food, clothing, luggage, cosmetics, and more. We buy items from several merchants and stroll around munching on warm cashew nuts :) . Soon the blood level begins to rise in my THC system, and it's necessary to locate Club Media for their famous Hindu Kush. The friendly Portuguese lady BT has it there on the menu, just dying to be smoked. We sit down in the very nice atmosphere of this dark and soothing place. Dim purple walls, chrome tables with black granite tops, ultraviolet lighting and low Techno music all give a great vibe. Not seeming to fit in, but interesting anyway were the collection of framed original posters from eastern Hash-bazaars, real ones being quite rare and valuable. After smoking the Hindu, I head back to the BT and grab a few grams of their Zooltjes hash and we chat a bit about Portugal and their drug-laws/culture. She told me the cops pulled her over driving, searched the car and fined her 80 euros for a speck of hash they found in the carpet fibres! Harsh. Back to the Flowerbomb for a good lift, two coffees and we're moving again towards Katsu.

Image

The Hindu Kush; 11 euros, thin stringy buds, light fruity smell, very hard to burn, ash was black, spicy/pepper taste, medium buzz only. Glad I didn't buy the 5g deal. A score of 6 out of 10. (A bad batch maybe? This stuff is supposed to be famous!)

The Zooltjes hash; 12 euros, medium soft, nice smell, looked just like the close-ups on other travelogues, tasted sweet and smooth, buzz lasts. We thought this was very nice, and rated it a tie with several others for second best hash.

We stroll back through the market heading east and turn right towards Katsu, but we've gone one block too far and are standing at the entrance to the Sarphati Park. A very small and intimate park, yet quite full with various activity areas and lawns, featuring a large bust of Sarphati himself. Out the far west gate of this little gem and we're at the doors of Katsu. Inside this fairly small place to the friendly lady BT and buy some Silver Pearl. Usually I go for more powerful strains and I should have stayed with that because I wasn't happy with this stuff at all. My own mistake; I'd read someone's travelogue who loved it, but everyone's opinions are different I suppose. Anyway we relaxed with hot drinks for a bit, listened to two old crones man-bashing far too loudly, and decided to call it a day. Back to the hotel, have dinner, smoke Critical and Flowerbomb Kush and crash.

Image Image

The Silver Pearl; 8 euros(too bad I bought the 20 euro deal), big fluffy buds, no real smell, burns well, tastes empty and stings tongue, small buzz that doesn't last, used it for mix with my hash. A very poor 4 out of 10 making it the worst smoke of the trip.

Alright, here's some more from our last trip. It's been taking awhile because I had a flood while away in the promised land.

Day 4: Friday!

Today we manage to get up early, the sun is in our windows, we yawn and stretch and open the window for some air. And slam it closed so damned fast because it's f'ing freezing outside  (my notes were very specific on this point). Shiver our way into our clothes and then take a smoke-stroll to the tram along the canal nearby, it's all Zooltjes hash this morning. Need to remain functional as we're headed uptown to the Antique Book Market located at het Spui every Friday. Love old books? Try this market. I never leave without buying a few books at least, and often more than a few. Today I found something from the 1600's for 80 euros! :D

Image

Now it's time for some munchies, the alleged “best fries in Amsterdam” are one block away and we walk over. They were very good, perhaps the best. It's one street over from De Dampkring which was our next stop. This place always makes me grin with their wild psychedelic décor and over-sized front door. On an ACD recommendation, I bought the Riffman Sensibile hash (sp?) and took a seat. Since we were fairly sober now, it was a good time to test this hash with just a small spliff between us. Very satisfactory!

The Riffman hash; 15 euros, soft and sticky like the black, little J does for two (and that's all my notes say, except for several + signs. Must have been a good time in the Dampkring.)

Image Image

That blood level meter goes off again and it's screaming “Couchlock!”, so we walk north up the tram line to Utopia, just a few minutes away. It's a quiet day here and we pull up a seat. The Recon stands out in my memory from the other day with Gapie and Zootly, so a little of that please! Couchlock achieved, we sip hot drinks and chat with the friendly lady BT Ingi for a while.

Time for some food. I've read a lot about a place two blocks west of here, on Singel, called Greenwoods. I ask Ingi for an opinion and she tells us to go, we'll like it. Supposed to make fabulous breakfasts. We pry ourselves off the couch and wander around the corner to Singel, but wow! The place is packed! The fellow tells us a 15 minute wait is needed and we decide to do so. Well, it was certainly worth it. There was hardly room to move your elbows in this tiny place, but the food was fantastic! :D I had the English breakfast, huge and filling, and the Mrs. had the soup of the day, barely finishing it. They do an egg dish with “half a salmon” in it (some patron's quote), and lots of other yummy things.

Image Image

A slow walk north along the Singel as we puff a large Kosher Kush on our way to Voyagers. Finally we get to meet the new dog, Debo. :) He's a great big puppy and he knows dog-people when he sees them! He made friends with me and the Mrs. in seconds. By the time I'd bought some Purple Westside and sat down on that low couch, he was beside me with his head on my shoulder as I rolled. Now that's Customer Relations! The BT and his Mrs., who are Debo's owners, have been friends with us for a couple of years now. We chat, drink tea, vape copious amounts of the Kandy Kush, and while away a pleasant afternoon in the Promised Land.

The Purple Westside; I'm sorry folks, but we have Mission Failure here. I didn't even write down the price, much less the details of the weed. Blame the vaped Kosher....

Around 4 pm we're talking about movies and remember the Tuschenski Theatre. The BT checks the on-line schedule for us and we find the latest Die Hard movie playing, so off we go to the Rembrandtplein. We make it just in time and settle in for some typical Bruce Willis bullshit, with one small problem; the Albanian? the actors are often speaking is being sub-titled in Dutch. I can read some Dutch, but not enough to follow the story-line. Oops! Afterward we stroll around inside this truly stunning Art Deco monument and just stare at the incredible design details everywhere. Almost makes you forget you're sober!

Image

In order to remedy that situation, we head to the east end of the Rembrandtplein and turn south for the second Bushdoctor to buy some Lemon Maroc hash. I'd read that this location was the better of the two for this hash. Go upstairs to the tiny room there and smoke a large Kosher before moving on west to Betty Too.

The Lemon Maroc hash; 20 euros (ouch!), soft and moist, smelled of citrus, very tasty, good buzz. We bonged it in Voyagers with Gapie, Smokeze, my Mrs. and another ACD guy from Tennessee (Hey Gapie, what was this guy's name?). We thought it was good and likely tied with others for second best.

Nothing on Betty's menu screamed at us to be smoked, so we had a coffee and moved west again. Winding up at Anyday, my notes said the Roh Tang Pass hash was the prize here and they had some available. A gram of that and we headed upstairs to the verdamper room, but didn't use them, just smoked a large Kosher and moved on again.

The Roh Tang hash; 17.50 euros, medium hard, dark almost black, smoked it with tobacco and it still seemed smooth, good buzz. We also gave this a tie for second place.

Image

Now we're going north up the Singel until we reach the Brouwersgracht and walk through to the Greenhouse. It's cake and coffee time, followed by a three-way mix of Recon+Kandy+Kosher. The couchlock factor was seriously high on that one! When our asses could be successfully levered off the bench, we staggered east toward Centraal Station.

Image

Some time later, after headshop browsing, eating, and stoned aimless wandering through the Friday night crowds, we made it to the tram and back to our hotel. We enjoyed that 3-mix, so we try a 4-mix of hash before bed; Tbizzla+Lemon Maroc+OG Cream+Grey Crystals with enough tobacco to let it burn (and burn, and burn). When it finally finished we were too baked to manage anything and watched lousy hotel TV until we crashed.

Day 5: the Pancake T&T @ Paradox today!

After getting the sleep of the Righteous(ly stoned) last night, we're up early today. It's sunny again, but still cold and windy. The walk to the tram is a Roh Tang moment and time just seems to slow right down. We saunter along that nearest canal, watching in the distance as two trams pass us by, hardly caring. Stop and feed the ducks and swans in the water, eventually riding uptown to Neuwidzkolk and walking west across the canals to the Noorderkerk (North Church) where there is an antique market every Saturday and Monday mornings. It can be slim pickings here when it's cold, but we buy a couple of things and head back north-east to Greenhouse for tea and coffee and to smoke Critical Kush. I also need some Flowerbomb and pick up a few more grams before wandering a couple of blocks west to a bookstore. Here I find a very good 1700's one for 100 euros. :)

Time to get moving south because we have a T&T planned for Paradox, with a further plan for all of us to haunt a pancake house with some Canadian maple syrup I've brought along. Thinking about Finger hash gets us in the mood so we roll a nice mix of the OG Cream+Grey Crystals and walk down to the coffeeshop. Gapie is already here, bless his dope-sense, and we fire up the vape while we wait for Smokeze. Inquired for the Finger hash, but again it's not available  . The volcano is erupting quite nicely, filled to the brim with Kandy Kush (I think, my notes just say Kush).

Image

Three steps closer to Heaven  , we melt into the bench and order hot drinks, Smokeze puts in an appearance shortly, he's a friendly guy from Belgium, only two hours away by train. Gapie appears to know him well. We chat a bit, smoke a bit, and make our way south towards Pancakes!Amsterdam for lunch. This place had the highest ratings of any pancake house in the Dam, but it's a victim of it's own success because it was fully packed, with a half hour wait for a seat. You just know us stoners weren't going to stand around in the cold outside that long, so the pancake end of the T&T got canceled in favour of more coffeeshopping! Gapie sets the pace and we're zooming along to Grey Area, no seats here, so a buy and fly it is. Smokeze bought and maybe Gapie? My notes don't say so, but this might have been the first time I bought their delicious Kosher, my favourite Kush smoke of the trip.

Image Image

The Kosher Kush; 16 euros; strong skunky smell, large dense sticky buds, tastes heavy and sweet, burns well, expands in the lungs, taste lasts all through, great body stone. Our best Kush smoke of the trip, for taste and buzz and burn this one got a 9+ out of 10, couchlock factor extreme.

Gapie and Smokeze are on a mission themselves; the Kashmir Lounge for some Amber. So we bid adieu to Grey Area and catch the tram to north of the Vondelpark and the K. Lounge. We travel with them, but it's getting time to eat something. We part company with the guys, they are going on to another shop/club? We need dinner! Gapie points us towards the Park and we stroll on down to the Blue Tea House for drinks and snacks. The park is pretty full, the sun is still out and these Dutch seem more willing to brave the cold than we Canadians are, just to walk in the park. We do take a walk, though, to the leaning tree by the small pond and fire up a large Super Lemon Bio. Now we can cruise through the trails and ponds and enjoy the rose-tinted scenery. We walk back to the hotel buying a pizza along the way at the Dominos just south of Hoofdorpplein.

Image

Some food, a power-nap, and we're up again at 8 pm. The tram delivers us to the Leidseplein Bulldog and we have hot drinks under the glass canopy with Flowerbomb Kush, relax and watch the world go past. Fighting off the couchlock once more, we tram it uptown to Greenhouse for cake and fish tank gazing. They have a fairly good deal with your choice of several cakes + whipped cream + vanilla ice cream for 4.50 euros. Yummy. One more Flowerbomb and it's time to hit the road for the last tram home. Both of us fall asleep on the ride back, barely waking in time for our stop. Zombie our way to our room and crash.

Day 6:

Wake up late on a snowy and windy Sunday. Laze around the room a bit, roll for the walk and head out for Voyagers. It was a mix of OG Cream and Amnesia Haze to start the day. Gapie is going to be there at 11 am. So it was me, my Mrs, Gapie, Smokeze, and Tennessee guy (C'mon Gapie, who was he?) and we proceeded to vape, smoke and bong our way through a respectable pile of intoxicants  . I bought more Super Lemon Bio and that went in, some nice personal-grown Powerplant that Smokeze had, various bits of hash from all previous buys, Kandy Kush, don't remember what Gapie threw in, and whatever else. One of the excellent descriptions by ACD member quiky best covers it; “as if a cubic yard of stoniness was dumped on my head”. I wish I'd written that, quiky is awesome, read his posts!

Image Image Image

Somewhere around 2 pm we surfaced and discovered a raging case of munchies. The restaurant directly across the canal is good, Gapie says, called Gebouw Batavia 1920. Cool looking brick Art Deco exterior with jungle motifs, we give it a try. Very nice Sunday roast dinner, beef and lamb with three kinds of potatoes and two veggies, very filling for 13.50 euros. The Mrs had nachos and couldn't even finish! :) Good food, but poor service, we were literally ignored by the waitress. Oh well, saved me a tip, maybe I should be grateful...

Image

Sober again, we move south into the RLD and make a stop at Hunter's, but the menu doesn't look appealing. Moving a little further we arrive at Greenplace, where my notes say the Cup-winning Shoreline is to be found. Alas, there is none for a couple of weeks  . The young Asian BT is very polite, he offers the menu and I spot the Twizzla hash and Abusive OG, both on my list also. A couple of each, please, and we're settling in again. This place is clean and uncrowded, nice atmosphere. :)

Image Image

The Twizzla hash; 13 euros, soft, quite strong smell, smooth taste, good body stone. According to my later notes we also liked this one for first place, thereby making it a three-way tie with the Tbizzla and the Finger hash.

The Abusive OG (Kush); 14 euros, compact buds, fruity smell and taste, burns well, taste lasts through. Had to have been a good buzz, we rated it 8 out of 10.

A large Abusive OG and then a slow and quiet time in Greenplace, some hot drinks, and eventually the couch lets go of us. We check the time and move uptown again, catch a ferry behind Centraal, and spend the evening in a club on the North island, smoking, drinking, eating, etc, 'nuff said.

Image

Day 7:

Rise not too early and go down to breakfast in the hotel's restaurant. They put out a good feast for 10 euros a person, and mounds of eggs and bacon later, we walk to the tram with a Zooltjes hash mix. It's warmer, but cloudy and we travel uptown to the Noorderkerk market for about 11:30. This is late for the Monday one since they pack up at 1 pm, but Saturday was limited buying and I didn't expect much today. Big mistake, the warmer weather had brought many vendors out and even at that late time we bought almost more than we could carry. :)

Image

A slow, encumbered walk north to the Haarlemmerstraat where we settle in at the Greenhouse for tea and cake. Flowerbomb Kush locks us in place for awhile, then back to the hotel to unload. We need to pack some bags tonight as the Mrs flies off to Malta tomorrow, leaving me here to attend some T&T's. (Poor me. )

An early start is necessary, so we get to sleep after a bit more smoking. The hotel has adopted a new dope-smoking policy this year, perhaps because a school is close by. They have signs stating No Smoking Drugs On or Near Hotel Property, so a walk was required to smoke  . Cursing them soundly for the aggravation, I'm staring at the sidewalk as we move and notice a baggie. Yes, it's about 2/3 gram of good Maroc(?) hash! :D The first time I've ever found dope here in Amsterdam! And it was pretty good, too. Thanks there Mr. Smoke Police!

Day 8:

Up at 3am. Truly. Got to both shower and be on the night-bus for 5:30, and get to Centraal Station for the 6 am train to Eindhoven. A spliff of Roh Tang as we walked to the tram. The streets are so quiet at this early time of day, and the bus ride is almost surreal in the emptiness of the landscape. Even the train station is almost empty, only about five other people on the same platform with us. Checking the board above me to be sure this is the right train, I help the Mrs onboard and head back to the hotel to sleep.

Image

A few hours power-napping and I'm up, smoke a Kosher walking to the tram, and soon I'm at City Hall flea market on the Waterlooplein. Buy a few things, smoke a little at Reefer, then back to the hotel to unload. Grab all my best leftovers because I've got a T&T at Voyagers at 1 pm with Gapie and SlimD from England. I've chatted with Slim previously and told him I would scout out some top smoke locations. I also brought a bit of the hash from the last few days, hoping that Slim knows it better than me. Unfortunately, he ended up getting ill and not attending :( . We missed ya man! The call had been answered by several other ACD people and we wound up with Gapie, me, Sonic, Tallguy, Nikki from Brunei, and two guys from Switzerland. Vaped and puffed our way through Kandy Kush, Silver Pearl, Super Lemon Bio, the Swiss guy's something-Haze, and I bought some Blue Cheese there, too.

Image Image

The Blue Cheese; 12 euros, extra smelly, big buds, crystals, sweet heavy taste, burns not too well, taste didn't last through. We called it 7.5 out of 10.

Of course, this was a wild mix of conversations and milling bodies, passed joints, shouted instructions, and a sharp memory of Gapie throwing the vape bag to various people around the room, like a dart at a board, with great accuracy! (All present give three cheers for Gapie!) This scene of debauchery soon quieted and we all made ready to travel to Utopia. Our tour-guide leads and we follow in ragged formation, chatting amiably, but somewhere along the way we lost the two Swiss guys.

Utopia is quiet today. We pull up the three inner wall tables and roll furiously. The Strawberry Cough is my pick and Sonic bought the Citral. Tallguy bought something too, the Recon maybe? Didn't see what friendly little Nikki bought. Some coffee and smokes, everybody sharing a taste of their weed and chatting. Soon we gather up and troop over to Grey Area.

Image Image

The Strawberry Cough; 13 euros, smells and tastes fruity, nice buds, burns well, no coughing! A 7.5 out of 10

Thanks Toker, we had a blast there. And there is still almost a week to go! Damned time-consuming this ACD reporting! :D

Debo is some kind of large bull-terrier, I think. The BT and his Mrs told me what breed exactly, but I've forgotten. He's got an unusual "brindle" colour coat, sort of mottled reds and browns. If he's intmidating, then he doesn't know it :) . He's just happy-go-lucky, and will come and lean up against you, or thump his big head down on your shoulder when you're sitting rolling  ! Or jump up onto the next seat to make you notice and pat him. Very friendly.

Wonderful mate, cheers to a splendid remainder!

Debo does have that big ol goof look to him. Love animals, they are so much F*ing cooler than the majority humans I meet. Excited to meet the fella more than the Kosher and Lemon!!
