Not sure where it was from, but it had a white label stuck on it with Critical Kush printed in green. No idea what shop it was from as I found it on the hotel floor.
i saw critical at bettys boops menu

Ah, it was probably from there then as Betty`s is jst round the corner from the hotel. Was pretty potent stuff as far as I could tell.

Pity I missed you at Voyager`s last Tuesday - was a bit gutted to find that it was closed.

Only a few hours into my first day and I`d already been in 3 coffeeshops, checked in and met for a TnT, so need less to say I was in need of a little rest.
I smoked a joint with Gapie and Gardener and went back to my cosy room on the fourth floor at the hotel.
After a few cups of tea and a weed check - I`d finished the Jack, I went back out to the local CS up the road, Utopia.
The last time I was in this CS was in August and I was served by a lovely Norweigen called Ingi, I think. This time there was a friendly guy for Portugal called Mauro. I just picked up another half gram, this timeSilver Bubble for 6.25. Had a smoke of this - it was just alright , nothing special about this strain and drank yet another cup of tea. The CS was pretty quiet and I wanted to get some black hash, so I headed off to Kadinsky. Boy it`s absolutely freezing in the Dam and I`m glad I`ve got my Uniqlo heat-tech gear with me.
Kadinsky is quiet as usual in January, and I grab a gram of Trans Himalaya for 11.50. Nice example of a black hash, but nothing like the squidgy black or temple all we used to get in the midlands back in the day.
By now, i`m pretty starving and pizza is the order of the day. I go to an Italian place across from Betty Boo`s and get a pretty decent freshly-made 4 cheese pizza for 10 euro. My hotel is just around the corner so i pop back again to get on the munchies.
As I`m walking back to the room, I find a bag of Critical Kush on the hotel corridor - bonus. Well over a gram in the bag too, maybe even a couple of grams. I`ll sample that after my pizza.. Soon enough I`ve devoured my pizza, built a joint of the Critical Kush mixed with Trans Himalaya - this is more like it, lovely toking - and headed back out to get more pizza.
This time I`m up on past dam Square at New York pizza. 3 slices later and I`m still hungry. Proper munchies now. Burger King seems a good idea and I get a double cheese burger meal for 3 euro! Then I smoke more Hash and Silver Bubble. Flying.
About mid-night I find myself back in the hotel making snowballs to throw at passers by. Very childish I know, but I giggled my head off when one of the snowballs hit its target right on the top of his bald head! The guy below had no idea where it had come from but it made a real thud when it hit him. Ooops. He wasn`t hurt though thank God and soon continued on his way.
I fell asleep while watching TV sitting up in bed. i woke up a couple of hours later, propping my head up with my hand with the telly still on. Quickly enough I got into bed properly and had a really deep sleep until my alarm went off for breakfast at 7.30 am.

Day two to follow...

Day 2 and I`m feeling well-rested after all the travelling yesterday. Hotel avenue serves up the best breakfast with everything; Toast, Fresh Meats, Cheese, Salad, Bacon, Srambled eggs, Boiled eggs, Rolls, Cereals, Yohurt, everything! And you can eat as much as you like. Quality. Before tucking in though, an early morning smoke is in order, after all I`m in Amsterdam!
So I take a shower and then build a nice Silver Bubble and Twizzla pre-breakfast joint. It`s even colder than yesterday outside so I go back in and check the temperature on the free to use computer in the hotel lobby and it`s -7! Luckily, the cold doesn`t seem to affect my appetite and I make full use of the buffet breakfast for an hour.
Suitably stuffed, I return to room 411 to find that I`d finished the Silver Bubble. Time to finish the Ever Grey aswell. I build a packed spliff of Ever Grey mixed with the rest of the Twizzla and some Critical kush. I go down to smoke outside in the morning light and as I`m toking away, a guy who is on his way to work at the Vegan restaurant next to the hotel comes up to me and asks what I`m smoking and he tells me that he could smell it way down the street. I say `Here, try some` so he takes a couple of tokes. I tell him it`s something from Grey Area, but when asked i forget which strain. Anyway, he thanks me for the joint, says `One Love` and goes in his restaurant. About a minute or so later, he comes back out and says, `Hey man, can I buy a little bit of that off you?` I apologise and say that was the last bit as it was left over from yesterday. I promise to call in and see him later to tell him the strain name. This random meeting again could only happen in Amsterdam. first time I`ve been asked to sell someone weed here though!
Today`s going to be a good day...even if it is bloody frozen outside!

Cheers, travelogues do tend to do that.

Pity there aren`t any pics - I know most people use them on here- but i just can`t be bothered. The weed wwas green and the hash was brown , no need to take pics of it for everyone to see, if you know what i mean.

Still got 3 more days to write yet, it`s taking bloody ages so positive comments definitely help with the motivation.

After smoking 2 phat booja-filled joints to accompany my full-on brekkie, I retire to my room for some more morning tea. Life in Amsterdam feels so decadent and self-indulgent, but I still enjoy it after all these trips.

I was looking forward to visiting Voyager`s, so that was to be the primary port of call today. I`d also arranged to meet Gapie and Gardener there again this morning, so it was time to get out into the cold.

Feck it`s cold today! Minus 7 is pretty hardcore. I`m from Wales, so I`m used to the oer (cold) but here it is bitter. Anyway, knowing that all I got to do today is get stoned, it`s not too difficult getting out into the bitter chill. Get to Voyager`s at 11am ready for Testing Tuesdays......but guess what...........yes......it`s only bloody closed. I peak in through the window and see the ceiling panels down and two guys doing some work whilst all the counters are completely covered in blankets. No Voyager`s visit today. And no Gapie or Gardener either.
What to do? Find another CS I guess. As it`s so cold, i don`t fancy walking far so I turn a couple of corners and I`m at Hunter`s. As usual, i check out a couple of strains and in the end order a gram of Amnesia Haze for 13.50. The big guy at the counter weighs out a bud and says it`s 1.3 grams and asks me for 17 euro+. I say `I only want a gram`, he tuts and re-weighs a smaller nugget. Felt like he was up-selling me (he certainly was) but wasn`t bothered at all as I was in Amsterdam and on holiday - nothing was going to vibe me out, man.
So I order a Chocomel - they have the glass bottles in here and build a couple of Amnesia Haze/Trans Himalaya fat ones. 5 joints so far today and it`s not even mid-day yet! The haze was good, but not as good as The Ever Grey - that was the best of the trip so far, really nice sour diesel taste that gets into your tastebuds. Hunter`s, the one on Woermostraat, has huge fishtanks that you can gaze at whilst sipping drinks and toking joints. I`m quite happy here, looking at the fish. There are a lot of tourists in here, which is to be expected as it`s on the main-drag, and everybody looks so bloody young. I`m 36, so i`m not old, but I`m certainly feeling my age on this trip. Watching people skin up with so much tobacco, I`m always surprised. This is the Dam - just use a little bit, as Gapie might say.
By 12.30 I`m back at the hotel. My room is so cool. I have a nice big bath and the view of the clock tower on Dam square is great. For 40 euros a night in January, including the amazing breakfast, I defo got a good deal. Third time at this hotel too! After a heavy morning smoking, I get my head down for a long siesta.

Enjoying this tale of debauchery in a cold climate. Hope it warms up a tad before my trip in a months time

Have taken note of this EVER GREY as a good smoke, although its not an appetising name for a weed exactly.

Had a laugh at your devilry in bombing the bald guy with snowballs, nice report.

Really enjoying your travelogue. Your concise writing style really paints a stark picture of cold streets and warm coffeeshops. I really got the impression that your Amsterdam patterns of behavior are somewhat similar to mine. Except the snowballs. I'd be far too afraid of getting into trouble somehow. Snowball throwing is probably classified as assault nowadays in the EU.

There is a law about everything in Europe. They always make sense and are practical. They are generally boring.

Please keep up the good work.

ps - looks like you got a great deal on your hotel. Who did you book it through?
How much did you produce?

The Ever Grey from Grey Area was the highlight of the trip weed wise. Very expensive at 16 Euro per gram though.

The snowball throwing was too strong an urge to resist. Did feel bad for catching the guy so sweetly on his bonce though.

Thanks for the feedback - appreciated. Surprised that someone finds it interesting to read.

Can`t believe that munchy attack on day one - it was crazy ; 1 whole 10" 4 cheese pizza, 2 x huge slices of 4 cheese pizza from NY place off Dam square, 1 x meat pizza slice from NY place on Damrak and a Double Cheese Burger Meal from Burger King. Insane.
It was like; smoke, walk, eat, smoke, walk, eat, repeat...

Thanks for the kind words. The Avenue hotel was actually 40 pounds per night, not Euro but still a bargain. Got it on Expedia.

Was waiting for a knock on the door after the snowball incident though

Hunter`s wasn`t that great a coffeshop to visit as it was far too touristy. Although i quite enjoyed hearing some half-decent dance music in a CS though - makes a change from the constant bob marley you hear at most places. Still haven`t heard any Plastikman in a CS yet though...Or Gorky`s Zygotic Mynci - that would be perfect.
Anyway, I digress again. I had a little smooch around the slippy and slidy Amsterdam streets and do believe I saw Jabba the Hut working one of the windows near the old church. There were some beauties around though, but with the temperature 7 below freezing, the last thing i was thinking about was nookie. Unless it was free and in the warmth of my hotel room. Which is exactly where I was by one o`clock lunch time for a good afternoon`s kip.

I smoked a bit out of the window and got ready to venture out into Hoth-like Amsterdam. Grey Area is less than 5 minutes walk from base, so that`s where I head. Get there at five to eight to be meeted by the bong-distracted friendly American dude with glasses and cap - forget his name. I get more of the outstanding Ever Grey another half a g at 8 euro (expensive, right!) along with a half gram of my old favourite Grey Haze at 6 euro. Much better prise.

As always, I hit this high-end coffeshop with immaculate timing as there are two, yes two, of the three tables free, so I ask the funky boss what time closing is and as expected it`s 8. No probs, I can make a jay much faster than that, and get my smoke on.

As I`m putting my origami skills into full practic, the american budtender is loading up a glass bong with freshly-fallen snow from just outside. There is a 21 year old who is just about to leave the Dam for home at the counter and the american guy is loading up a bong for him saying he is plenty young enough to come back. The snow is packed into the glass tube and the young guy takes a huge hit off the bong turning brighter shade of red and commencing a lenghty coughing attack. I really want a go, but in my reserved way, I smoke quietly while watching the mayhem. The budtender then has a go himself - no coughing from him. Before I pluck up the courage to ask for my turn, it`s 5 past eight and time to close for the night. Great visiting such a class shop and two days running too!

That night I got tucked into both the Grey Haze and Ever Grey mixed in joints with some Trans Himalaya. I chilled at the hotel, smoking out the window as it was too cold to go out. But I did manage to call into Stone`s bar for a smoke with a pint of heineken that was over 5 euro! That was the only the beer of the day though as I was here for the smoking , not the boozing.

Day 3 to follow
