Hello to all the posters on this fine message board. I am new to browsing this particular forum but in the short time I've been here, I have gathered a lot of invaluable information that I believe is going to make our trip much more successful. So, THANK YOU!

This will be my first trip to Amsterdam and I am very excited. It has all come together very nicely at the last minute (just found out I was going less than 2 weeks ago). I have two lists of places to try for in our time there: Food and Coffeeshops.

Coffee shops-

City Hall- NL5haze, mangohaze
Voyagers- good rep
Anyday- oaxacan (on Spuistraat)
Grey Area- silver bubble
Utopia
Green Place- avoid that a budtender
Bluebird
Paradox- space cakes BEST
Katsu- close to Media
Papillon-good locals place
Club Media- Champagne Haze
De Graal
De Kuil (420 cafe)

FOOD-
Batavia- recommended
Pane e olio- next to Grey Area
Febo- fast food windows
Thai Bird
La Perla- pizza GOOD
Tjins Toko
Bazar
Taco Shop
La Place
Cook Kai- Thai
Burger Meester
*Joordan neighborhood*-better food
Ask about Turkish pizza

Except for a few of the coffeshops, none of these places are must see destinations. I just want to see the city, meet some people, and smoke fine Sativa and hash that puts my head soaring ever higher (advice appreciated ).

My only concern at this point is the weather in Amsterdam during our stay. We are supposed to be there Jan 31-Feb 3 and the forecast looks very rainy and windy. I'm just hoping we can hit the couple museums we want to see in addition to all the bar/coffeeshop hopping we intend to do. I really appreciate all the folks here who have taken time to give thoughtful information and honest opinions as that's how we picked our hotel and that's how I came about putting most of those locations in my notes.

I hope to be back with a great story to post up in the travelogue section but I'll still be checking back with this forum up to the time we leave to get any last minute knowledge I can so please feel free to leave some input on what you see in my lists. Take care!

Glad to have you here! Love the title of your thread (Scorpions). I just joined a little while ago, although I've been reading the excellent, invaluable advice offered on this site for years. You've got a good list going there. I would add Dampkring (the original one, NOT the one on Harlemmerstraat) - The "if you could only go to one coffeeshop" cs, IMHO. Ask the budtender for a recommendation and the desired effect from their large menu. Try one of the Rifman hashes, as well. The psychedelic decor is still my favorite. The milkshakes are great! This one is in the Spui area. You'll never forget visiting this place, and considering what you'll be smoking, that's saying a lot. This place is even a tourist destination for nonsmokers, that's how special the vibe is. As for Grey Area, the Silver Bubble is always good. I don't think I've ever left Grey Area without walking out with 5 different baggies (strains), so don't hesitate to ask one of their knowledgeable budtenders for recommendations. You'll be sooooooo happy you did! Make sure to print out the ACD coffeeshop map as well as some Google walking directions to some of these cs's and enjoy - you'll have the trip of your life.

The weather in the dam is almost always crappy, but once you go into your first cs your concern about the weather will quickly dissipate. With Amsterdam it's all about layers and a portable umbrella. Pack a lot of layers and have an umbrella handy and you'll be walking all over the city with the biggest smile on your face and with absolutely no concerns about the weather.
