Is true that bud tenders rule the music in some places, and by and large thry have really poor (imo) music taste.

An honorary mention must go to the time that spent an hour in Dolphins bring subjected to the second half of a shudderingly bad justin timberlake live concert, followed by the first half of a gilbert and sullivan operetta. Neither were enjoyable. The operetta was just wierd, its all up beat and theatrical. It wasnt even like the staff put either on as a joke . Someone just had the WORST playlist for his shift

Mate you've got all this performing rights stuff for paying royalties when you play music in a public place. The way things have been in Amsterdam over the years the coffeeshops toe the legal line by and large on all matters that help to maintain a quiet life, they are run by stoners right..
You could once upon a time put a tape on the bar to play. When music had to be physically transported on plastic, vinyl or magnetic tape, and I'm on about quite a while ago, then folks were quite happy to hear something new and different, a lot of us seamen were buying stuff in America and travelling with our music, and British bands too. Amsterdam was a different place before the hippies and cosmic travellers found it. but it was bangin' :D :D, believe me.

Talk to and get to know people but the legal side will be a factor, boring, conformist, lackey, multi coloured running dogs that they are  .

Nice to see Marco getting his exercise, jumping to conclusions, and a suberb extra time own goal there from Mr Spector.

Welcome to ACD, most members, most of the time, are civil to each other almost to the point of boredom but fortunately we are saved by the smilies :D :D :D
What a long strange trip it is.

If it's anything like the UK, business owners pay an annual fee to the PRS which pretty much means they can play what they want... I'm sure everywhere pretty much has the same or a similar entertainments license.

Why? Remember, you said I should wear headphones. So, why do you give a shit? Get your story right.
You are asking to subject strangers at a coffeeshop to your musical tastes, so why are you afraid of posting those tastes here?

are you really as dumb as you appear?

i'm not asking to "subject" strangers to my music. i asked if there was a coffee shop that didn't care about what was being played and would therefore be willing to let a customer do so. understand the distinction? it is NOT that difficult. think, dude. think. several people have responded with good answers about the context of music in shops, why it is challenging to get music played, and suggested some ideas. yet, you seem to struggle with the obvious. again, if you want me to wear headphones why the bizarre obsession with me sharing my musical tastes? if you like my list (how does "speed fado" or "gypsy electro" strike you?), are you going to come join me in a shop and suddenly drop your great concern with protecting customers from being "subjected" to a strangers music?! you might need to lay off the strong stuff or at least take a long break from the forum. you're not making any sense. you just come off as a wilful malcontent and, quite frankly, a real creep. or, as my old crazy uncle might say, "that boy just ain't right!"

Considering you have years of stupid comments on this forum and Channels, you might be working on the lifetime achievement award for douchebag.

My final comments for those who seem to have more bone than brain: the OP never considered the patrons at the shop. He may find a bud tender who would play his music, but the guy did not consider the rest of the people. The type of music this mo wants to play is not the point (so, I never judged his taste).

Would you bring your own music to a bar or restaurant? Why are stoners exempt from common courtesy? I bet Ray is the type who walks up to a DJ at a club asking him to play a track on his iPhone.

Touron mentality

Marco, i think you're reading more into Ray's first post that is actually there... He never even got to the point where he would be subjecting others to his music... He just asked:
Ray Symbolic wrote: Could somebody recommend a coffee shop where they might be receptive to plugging in an IPod and playing it for a little stretch?
...He didn't say anything for definite, he just asked a simple question and got mostly reasonable, straight forward answers. While i might agree that listening to someone elses music might not be my cup of tea, i also happen to think that the majority of the music in CoffeeShops is dreadful... As is the music in supermarkets, lifts, pubs, clubs and my barbers... Somehow, i manage to totally block it out. I also don't get your point about asking DJs to play tunes... Something i'm pretty sure everyone has done.

I don't want to get in the middle of any "Flame War", but i think you might need to relax just a little.

Anyway, the question has been answered... I think the thread should be locked.
