Both
The municipality announced today the distance criterion for coffeeshops to introduce gradually. Among the first things that must close by July 1, 2014, include The Grasshopper and Homegrown Fantasy. The Bulldog on Leidseplein in 2016 to close.

Thus, the list of 31 coffee shops, owned by AT5. The two cases on the Nieuwezijdsvoorburgwal are according to the municipality within sight of a school. Their tolerance statement expires therefore by July 1, 2014, thus ending exercise.

Other cases by July 1, 2014 to see their tolerance statement expired: Golden Bean (Da Costa Street), Ocean (Dusartstraat), Betty Boop (Nieuwezijdskolk), Quay (Stadionkade), The Power (Wibautstraat), Ben (Kolksteeg) Magic (Herengracht) and The Wow Shop (Spaarndammerdijk).

As of January 1, 2015
The shops Abraxas (Spuistraat) Anyday (Short Kolksteeg), The Energy Shop (Spuistraat) and Biba (Hazen Street) have another year. Because they are within 150 meters of a school, is the tolerance statement from 1 January 2015 to expire.

As of January 1, 2016
Then there is a larger group of shops located between 150 and 250 meters from a school are, they may sell weed to January 1, 2016.

Those are Crown Three (Rietwijkerstraat), Space Mountain (Dusartstraat), High Time (Jan van Galenstraat) Resin (Hekelveld), Lucifera (Frederik Hendrikstraat), Méditerranée (Spuistraat), The Rookies Bar (Short Leidsedwarsstraat), Utopia (Nieuwezijds voorburgwal), The Grail (Albert Cuypstraat), Get Down to It (Short Leidsedwarsstraat) Mellow Yellow (Vijzelgracht, The Bulldog (Leidseplein), Today (Dusartstraat), Crown Two (Old Bridge Steef, Pit (Oudebrugsteeg), El Guapo ( New Neuve) and Little (Vijzelgracht).

In 2014 already limited open
all 31 coffee shops that are within the distance criterion, are limited open by January 1, 2014. These coffee shops may be open on weekdays from 18.00 to 01.00, so they are not open when young people are at school. The restriction does not apply during holidays and weekends.

Good article that
. In 2007 Amsterdam’s Department for Research and Statistics reported that of the 4.5 million tourists who spend the night in Amsterdam during a given year, 26% visit a coffeeshop. In addition, the Amsterdam Tourism & Convention Board noted that 10% of tourists even mention
is it just me who realises that is a fuck load of cash, they must be mental letting this get implemented, mental, time will tell....

Sorry lost a bit of that quote at the end but its clear.

So 26% of 4.5 million is 1,170,000 if we averaged out at just e100 per head in Coffeeshops over a visit, thats a lot of dosh thats being taxed plus the jobs. If 10% only go for the weed thats 450,000 less hotel beds being occupied, restaurants, shops, tourist attractions raking in the tax euro's for the city plus the jobs. Still I'm sure they've done the sums. Anyway from a selfish point of view there will still be plenty of CS's left.

I think its important to note that while 26% of tourists admit to visiting a coffeeshop, they are certainly not of the same ilk as the cannabis tourists on this site.

I would speculate a large portion are just curious and likely only soend a small amount of money, and not close to 100e per person per visit.

As i said, just speculating using reasoning.

However, i agree....over 1 million visitors to coffeeshops per year cannot and should not be ignored.

We are talking millions of euros in taxes lost. MILLIONS

@TC

Yeah I get that but its 26% of 4.5 million and 10% admit just goin for coffeeshops, so my working is each one of the 16% buy a pre roll and a drink once in one cs which will cost them prob 7.50-10 euro total, the other 10% spend at least 100 euro, that's just cs spending, I will not get my calculator out coz its pretty big, then the money the 10% spend on other things and flights to get there. It's a huge amount of wedge, the knock on could be pretty bad for Amsterdam as a whole. They have got some balls doin that in imo. 8)

you gotta understand this.

the govmnt doesn't give a fuck about the weed.

they have so much money from elsewhere.... the weed is like a spec of dust for them.

they wanna make amsterdam like paris.

thats their goal.

cafe's on the canals... more shops... attracting a higher end visitor.

thats their goal.

the school distance thing? like the article i posted says.... seems like a consolation move because of the new weed pass.

it would be cool if they allowed those shops to MOVE.

that would be the right thing to do.

but this govmnt doesn't give a fuck about the shops.

sad.

sad to remove your history.

you have to embrace what you are.

vegas does so.

thailand does so.

amsterdam is changing... bigtime. :-(

The only way Amsterdam’s Department for Research and Statistics could calculate accuratly is by having insight in all the coffeeshops volume of sales. Which still leaves them with lots of estimation when it comes to the percentage of tourist spendings. 26%, that sounds more like the fraction of leftover tourists after coffeeshops are gone.

I couldn't agree more, it's been changing for the 50 years I've been going there (yes I'm that old) :|. Of course a lot of people living in the city want modernity, but I think it's always been a minority in the Government that want to close it down to foreigners. Times are changing. folks dont want their kids walking past redlight windows and stoned tourists in Coffeeshops either on their way to school or anywhere else, but if thats what the people want in their own town you have to respect it.
I think most Dutch can live with Coffeeshops but they just dont like the reputation of being the Stoner capital of the world :D

If Amsterdam does not want to be the stoner capital of the world then are plenty of cash strapped cities that will be happy to fill their shoes.

One door closes, another opens.

They think stoners are the problem, I see piss eds as the problem, they might not like cs on the schools doorstep and we all know what the cs are going to be turned into, so it goes from a bit of smell in the air to the stench of piss, vomit outside entrances and broken glass with a bit of blood. Nice

Anyone stayed at rookies hotel on a weekend, in a front room, Fucking mayhem, that's what awaits them, and tbh they have a lot of top shops safely out the way on P.C. Hooftstraat, I can't see any of them shops moving into town in a rush. 8)

When the doors close on Voyagers will be the day I stop going :D

they dont give a fuck about the stoners.

you dont get it.

they wanna make amsterdam more like paris.

attracting an upscale crowd.

we are like the dirt of the city to them.

holland is a very wealthy country... you think they give a fuck about the weed money?

lol its like pocket change to them.

Everyone gets it, well gets what your saying, so yes everyone gets it, we can all read, what you want no one to reply? not here try channels

It's Amsterdam not Paris, never will be simple they will still have a shed load of shops and they can add all the museums they want, gives stoners plenty to look at when stoned out their brains, they can put more eating places in coz stoners don't get hungry  , they can put more pubs in coz most stoners also like a drink, its not gonna change nothing its still going to be Amsterdam, and we know Holland are rich but this is About Amsterdam the city that moan about paying bin men a bit extra.

Nothing will change, DO YOU GET IT? They only thing changing will be progression of other European countries why they go backwards....

See ya in 10 years for a spliffs or ten in a coffeeshop in Amsterdam
