ps - Who is the resident smartarse?
Nothing else to add to this thread.
I smoke. I'm a troll it seems.
Plenty of trip reports demonstrate that lots of people get up to all kinds of things in Amsterdam - it's a great city. We can agree on that point hopefully. (Waits for pedant to pick holes in this innocuous statement...)
See you on another thread.

Does anyone know if new schools will not be allowed to open within 250 meters of an existing coffeeshop? Fair is fair, after all.
Cheers, Eurotripper

That is to say, freedom of choice matters, but all good things at a proper age.
So why aren't they closing all pubs in the same areas as well?
They are raising the legal drinking too.

Not everything is going backwards however. There is a new plan in place to have a number of clubs, like Trouw, open 24 hours.

Well so much for my plan to take my stepson to Amsterdam for a bier tour on his 16th.
Regarding the school closure issue, I wonder if a survey has been done for Dutch citizens on this. I'd imagine so. I'm thinking that while most Dutch have no problem tolerating cannabis, as evidenced by the decline of the Wietpas, they might be inclined to support the 250m rule. Just a thought. Locally, the town where I work has been working on a 1000' school rule that includes ALL schools, even the small college in town.

Just typed "universiteit amsterdam" into Google maps... Quite a few little red dots appeared all over the city... Whilst i'm sure not all of these are regarded as "schools", there's still enough of them to make me think that the future 350m rule will totally wipe out all city centre CS's...
...Anyone care to put my mind at ease?

That 1000 yard rule will be tough to meet in an urban area. Kind of thing opponents will use to stifle progress. Perhaps you should start agitating to move the drinking houses too, might focus some.
I was surprised to see that the dutch alcohol age had been at 16, but I think that was/is quite common in mainland Europe. I think the binge drinking culture is spreading from UK.

I think it's good that you are stewarding your boys early drinking adventures.

1000'=300 yards +/-. We figured we could find a smoke friendly bar where he could enjoy his first legal beer, so it's really more for me

Does the Dutch school rule apply to universities? I thought not, but I've only read English only reports.
edit for grammar

I thought the rule was only applied to schools where the students were close to CS age group?!?

Marco wrote:Not sure if this has been discussed, but apparently the type of school that is considered for this list is not what you may think. Elementary schools (so kindergarten to sixth grade) don't count, and for this reason Chapiteau is not on the list. They are concentrating on schools with kids 12 and up.

Who says the CS has to move? Change the factor(s) that affect the status of the CS.
IF it even comes to that. Talk is cheap in the NL, it seems, when big money is involved.
That is fucked up. Can we please not have posts about bombing schools here.
Totally agree. No matter how you feel to discuss bombing anything is dreadful.

Did you know in the UK Between the ages of 5 and 17, it is legally permissible for children to drink alcohol at home or at a friend's house with the permission of a parent or legal guardian.[87]
The minimum age for the purchase of alcohol is 18. People aged 16 or 17 may consume wine, beer or cider on licensed premises when ordered with a meal.[1] In England and Wales, it must be an adult who orders;[88] however, an adult doesn't have to be present to order alcohol with a meal in Scotland. The legal age for the purchase of alcohol from an off-licence (store/supermarket) is 18. (The legal age to buy liqueur chocolates is 16, but this is rarely enforced.)

Yep!!!!
I was just wondering about Portugal that has essentially legalised possesion of certain quantities of any drugs. Are people still having to score off the criminals, or is there some kind of tolerated domestic market for "locals" kind of thing.
Toleration lets politicians off the hook they can sit on the fence, but full legalisation they have to take a leap that it seems not many career politicians are quite ready to do yet. In England we seem to have advanced to the point where a small amount of class A will get you put on a rehab course and personal weed you'll likely get a pass. Not even a half way point yet. Only a coffeeshop at the end of the street would make any noticable change for me over the last 40 odd years.

OK you've done your trolling now go away.
What are you on about, this guys posts are among the more coherent and
respectful contributions, why would you accuse him of trolling? Unless your just sucking up to the resident smartarse. Neeeext!!!

The posts were not respectful. The reply that you quoted from Gronin seeks to impute opinions to me that I do not have. Sucking up to the resident smartarse? There would appear to be more than one but i suppose you're referring to Ron.If memory serves me correctly, I've smoked with him and stood in the queue for the bus with him, but never sucked up to him. Be seeing you
