Bad News..

The supply chain to the Coffeeshops is in great jeopardy. Many of the shops outside Amsterdam are having a very difficult time getting any weed at all, let alone good weed. Many of the small growers have been busted and shut down. Because of a new level of enforcement there are fewer and fewer and the coffeeshops are really starting to feel it badly now. On television almost every night there are stories about enforcement and a special group here in Amsterdam that only bust and destroys gardens. When busted, they don\0t get jail time but can lose there homes and be put in the street. Even in Amsterdam it is very hard to find top quality weed in ANY shop. There are a few exceptions and these are hit and miss. I was in Greenhouse Tolstraat a couple of days ago and the budtender told me they would not have there cup entry for sale except on a very limited basis. I found some Diesel Haze at Club Media that was adequate for 11 Euro or 3.8g for 23E. I found some Super Haze at Supermarkt that was OK too. Also 11 Euro.

But generally the weed is shit, over fertilized and immature. There is talk everywhere of shaken buds and even using the powder out of florescent lights to cover buds with. So beware and choose very carefully. I have confirmed this many times over the last few weeks. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but these are the facts, and it is going to get worse unless all of the cannabis people in Holland start coming together again.
This was posted over at Channels by MHD who has recently started living in The Netherlands, so if anyones going over in the near future then be careful.

Lol USBONG I wouldn't worry, came back day before yesterday and the coffeeshops I went to seemed well stocked with decent stuff.

This article makes interesting reading though, and the comments afterwards:

Pretty worrying stuff! I've been hearing similar stories since I first visited amsterdam but never heard so many reports of a decline in quality.

Cup week could be very interesting and will certainly prove or disprove these rumours, if the coffeeshops are gonna struggle to meet demand at any time it'll be then. Unfortunately I'm in town the week after so I'm hoping all you judges don't dry up the city!!

The laws seem so ridiculous, especially now they seem to be enforcing them in the way that they are, the next couple of years could really be make or break, especially with more talk of the smoking ban...

I am living here, in Amsterdam since september.
my first time was in the 1998 and in the years I came to visit amsterdam a lot of times.
In the past the weed quality for sure was better, now only the big coffe like grey area, kadinsky, twede kamer( try the buddha' s sister ) barney has good a very good quality.
i tryed a lot of places and after one month I can say the best quality is in the grey area IMHO.
Also the prices are going up, I am really curious whats will happen during cannabis cup, the most commercial period of the year.
Sorry for my bad english :D

The one time I went to Twede Kamer the bar/bud-tender was being an asshole to a couple of the Italian guys I was with from my hostel when we were buying bud. He was also saying obnoxious stuff to other customers like "I'm only here to take your money and you're only here to give it to me." Which - even though he was making a (lame) joke - you still don't normally come out and say stuff like that to your patrons.

We decided to smoke in the shop, but the second we sat down he was yelling at us from the bar that we had to buy a drink (which we did, and would have on our own without the embarassment had he given us half a minute to get situated). Anyway, didn't seem like that great of a shop for the hassle, and we didn't we didn't enjoy the bud because of it :?

EVERYTHINGS FINE

Bonglord, have you posted a trip report yet? There's some stuff in there begging for elaboration. Why avoid Greenhouse? What about the Jelly Hash at Blue Velvet?

I ask because I'm so completely in agreement with you on Willie Nelson being overrated (ridiculously so), and sticking to Laughing Buddha (impossible to overrate), that I'm curious about your rationale on the other stuff. It might apply to my upcoming trip.

On the other hand, I know post-trip melancholy (and work) can diminish our capacities for a timely post-trip report. Nonetheless, we're waiting. You owe us! Give it up, Bonglord!

Yeah, one guy I smoked a lot with my second time in Amsterdam said that Willie Nelson was his top weed of the the week. The next day I made the trek out to Barney's to try the stuff, and I was less than impressed. It doesn't have much of a flavor at all, and I didn't notice anything special about the high either. It certainly wasn't BAD weed, but I couldn't see how this guy had said it was his tops. On the bright side, it did introduce me to Barney's where I had a very nice experience, and was impressed by a very nice menu there. I went back last time and I'll probably go back there again...not sure why it's gotten a bit of a bad rap.

Some people like beer and some like whiskey. Who's to say the beer drinkers taste in alcohol is any less than the whiskey drinkers. Taste is a matter of opinion, so often differs from person to person. We have customers that love the mellow buzzes and flavour of the purple and Thai stick, yet wont take a second look at super silver haze and of course vice versa. I think sometimes when people come here they're often in search of the golden fleece. Forgetting the weed grown here is done as illegally as it is anywhere else!. Thus, not too easy to come across. Good shops will always have good weed, but this is down to good foresight and good longterm connections. Everbody else will get poorer quality at increased price. But that's drugs. My advice is don't complain and choose better. Because it is a matter of opinion , a consensus is always better than individual views. Remember though, there's a time limit on things....2 years from now ya might find yerself thinkin about the good old days when Amsterdam even had shit weed to smoke!.
