There are a couple that do take cards but most cards issued from the States don't have a chip & pin.

Idk who you bank with Jimbo-US&A but we used to have standard federal/ABN-AMRO and they have a few atms around the city. Just let them know your going to Adam so they wont be alarmed by your card activity. Just withdraw there like at home with no charges.
Since we have switched banks and just load a couple pre paid visa and use the atms there for a service fee of course. Just take your max out at a time to minimize charges. But, such is life. Im sure people have lots of diff angles on this but I always just figured 30-60 in charges but im on vacation so just grin and bare it.

I think they only take PIN cards, not credit cards.

I've had hit and miss experiences with debit/credit cards abroad. Told my bank that I would be in the States from xxx-xxx and my card was declined at Heathrow. Phoned up and was told I was supposed to be in the States.
Second time I told them I would be in Spain, France, Belgium and The Netherlands. Fine in Spain, knocked back everywhere else. About £20 in phone calls to get it authorised again.
What I would do is take a couple of hundred of Euros, USD travellers cheques and credit cards/pre-paid visa. Make a test withdrawal when you arrive to be sure you are OK to use it. If you have problems then you have back-up until it is sorted.

Skip the travelers checks, only the tourist places take them. As far as using a debit card in an ATM, I've only had a problem once and it was kinda my fault. But it is the best way to access cash while traveling abroad. And Dutch ATM's don't charge fees so its only what your bank charges and for me its not much.
