Behavior 'customs' and identification..

Post by KMK0420 »

two things. while in amsterdam, what are the most common behavior customs? like what things shouldnt you do in public that are different from the USA? i just dont want to be considered rude or impolite while i'm there.

also, what form of identification will coffeeshops and bars accept from a US citizen? us drivers license? birth certificate?

Always be polite; please, thank-you. Don't be loud or obnoxious. Just have a good time and don't be afraid to ask questions if your not sure. The dutch are very friendly and outgoing.
Always good to carry a copy of your passport, or Drivers license with you at all times.

If you go to the grocery store, unload your basket for the cashier and pack your groceries in your pack after. You'll have to pay extra for bags.

Indeed, The Dutch are a polite bunch.

You will be in a Western culture so it will not be too different from the U.S..
My thoughts are free.

Other than what's already been said...don't walk in front of bicycles. They have the right of way. If you hear a horn honking incessantly, and don't know why, it's probably because you're screwing up and blocking their way.
