The Stag Do That Never Was

Post by skeeta »

Ive been umming and arhing about sharing this at all tbh, but as I may still be arriving to dam on the 22nd i thought i would share this story as its the whole reason for me coming to dam this time round in the first place (should still come under travel plans even though it has a build up to it me thinks).

So it was January this year when one of my best friends informed us all that he would finally be getting married to his fiance on the 27/04/13. They have been engaged for some time (4 years roughly), but due to his fiances health no date had been officially set till now.

No stag do had been arranged until my return from amsterdam in mid feb when the stag informed us that he wanted to go to dam. The best man asked me to arrange it as i have been dam before and im probably the best person to manage a group event such as this anyway. So I did.

Flight tickets and accomodation booked for 10, flight at 6am on the 22/04, flight home at 21:30 on the 23/04. (we are a group of lads ranging from 21 to 28, the stag is 24)

Unfortunately, the Stags brother pulls out leaving 9 of us going, and with the wedding being a rather large expense on the stag, all the lads chip in for his flights, accomodation and spending dolla.

Up until now everything was running fairly smoothly, until it came apparent a handful (including the stag) didn't have passports? The stags passport eventually arrived on the 17/04. However........

In the early days of April this month, my friends fiances health took a turn for the worse, the wedding was postponed. Things went form bad to worse, on monday this week she was given the heart breaking news that no more treatment was available to her and that she was looking at 2 weeks left to live.

Its hurts me to say, but she passed away yesterday at the precious age of 24, they have been together for over 7 years. Still to young.

We are hoping the Stag still goes on Monday, just to take him away from his heartache for 2 short days. Its most probably too soon. But it would be nice. She was very persistent on him going, even in her last days.

Thanks for reading, hopefully you will see us out there :)

Please try and make your friend go..... I cannot even begin imagining the pain he has gone through. My thoughts at this moment really are with your friend......
