The cheapest and closest hotel to the center with free parking in town, for those who come by car.
Cheap 3*** hotel with free parking, 20 min walk from the central station crossing the river by boat (5 min by bus via IJ tunnel)
Just about 100 euros double room per night
5 bastion hotels in Dam
website : http://www.bastionhotels.nl (in dutch, english, french, spanish and german)
+ smoking rooms
Whats the deal with the 5 euro tax at this hotel ?
Is it a one off payment of 5 euro's, or is it 5 euros a day tourist tax ?
I've read the reviews on trip advisor but i am confused !
Here's the quote from a review that i found on Tripadvisor
"Very annoyed at the €5 euro tourist tax , I'm here on business why should I pay an extra €25 on top of VAT , if I was staying somewhere scenic in the middle that might be OK , but this is as far from a tourist location as you could imagine."

Also whats the smoking policy here, any clues ?
Thanks for any help & advice.

I don't know about smoking policies at the hotel, but normally the €5 tourist tax is per day, some hotels already have this included in their price and some dont.

Thanks Rufus,
I've check my booking and it looks as if all taxes are already paid for, so it looks as if theres nothing for me to be really concern about.

if this bastions related in anyway to the 1in mastricht then i would rather sleep in vondel pak, shit hole with what looked like asbestos interior walls, &we got kicked out for smoking weed (2006) &we wernt even given warning not to smoke in their, +radiator &wall were splattered with what looked like blood, holes in walls, bedsheets dirty, stunk of damp, mould in the bathroom, telephone had no socket on it, no proper locks on the door, ceiling tiles were the old fashioned polystyrene type (real safe in a fire) overall a facking shit hole
