Doesn't bother me in the slightest, people could be doing a lot worse.

Was considering quitting this forum completely after the initial flaming... Oh I see it continues...
Just for the record... I have lived and worked in the Netherlands periodically including Amsterdam over the last 20 odd years. I fully appreciate what is happening there. But yes I am going to sit outside and blaze discreetly. I have a full grip thanks for the advice.
What is your guys point here? Hide away indoors if you prefer, I choose sunlight...
Completely unrelated to the actual topic, but you really sound like a baby. If you want to quit over someone disagreeing with you, just quit and don't announce it please.
What is it with the attention whores who have joined the board recently? Sheesh
Edit: I smoke outside all the time, all over. But I try to be super discreet and I do understand the implications.
+1
Hartstikke dank.

I work in retail.
A lot of shops all over the bloody world are closing down. Due to weed? No
Due to the Internet, and big chained supermarkets? Yes
I've only been the dam once (twice in summer), and the first thing I noticed was how its not been commercialised at all. If I remember right, there was only one street which had a mac Donald's, subway and KFC. Every other shop seemed to be a small family owned business.
If big multi million companies are dying such as jessops, Hmv, blockbusters, republic, woolworths etc etc. then how are the small time companies going to cope against things like amazon?
I don't think there is a direct link between the people that have a smoke outside a CS, in the provided chairs, and local retail shops shutting down. It doesn't help, but people who are anti weed shouldn't be so up tight in amsterdam when they all know before hand what to expect.
UK tourists just like to bitch moan and winge;
whether its the Germans getting up early and stealing your spot for the hotel pool or if its an overcast day in Spain when you were expecting sun for a whole week. They will always have something to moan about.

If a coffeeshop or bar has a terrace and allows you to smoke, fuck 'em all!

I reckon' ( I know no one really gives a feck what I reckon

) but I think if you hide inside when given the opportunity to smoke outside, that you will be actually hurting the cause. Hide something in the darkness and it seems evil??

I smoke outside when in Amsterdam all the time, hell I do it at home too. I'm not looking for attention and I am discrete. One of my best memories is of smoking on a bench behind the Van Gogh museum. Hiding and sneaking around just perpetrates the idea that there is something to hide, IMO there isn't anything to hide. Now I do think you shouldn't smoke around children or blow in the faces of non smokers. Be respectful and shouldn't be a problem. The blame for the closing of the shops has nothing to do with op original poster and your response was asinine.

Never had a problem smoking in the streets, IMHO as long as you're walking and not squatting a curb nobody really cares... Never got a dirty look anyway. Of course I'm pretty discreet and don't blow smoke in people's face.
On a CS terrace, seriously, why couldn't you smoke there ? It's provided by the CS with an ashtray on the tables. If you're still unsure ask the budtender.

I can't believe some forum users believe that using a Coffeeshops own smoking terrace is a form of disrespect...
One of the main reasons i go to Amsterdam is to enjoy the freedom afforded to the pissheads in my own country... No-one bats an eyelid at someone enjoying a pint outside a pub, and my belief is that i should also be allowed somewhere in the world to enjoy that freedom... Just one tiny, little town on this whole planet... As far as i was aware, Amsterdam is that place.
It seems like a form of self-hate when stoners agree that maybe, their habit is a shameful one; to be hidden out of sight like a smack addiction...
...I don't think so!!!
...I feel no shame, or see no wrong in my choice of recreation!
Smoke away, chaps!

Don't listen to Marco yip, he's the biggest bitch on the forum.....pretty stupid to boot....the truth is yip...fuck the people in amsterdam who don't like it,,,people who love weed come there and drop huge amounts of cash in that city...that gives them jobs, industry, and taxes.....people can come to Colorado or Washington next year for a pot vacation instead of amsterdam...

I'm not sure that it's the fact people smoke weed that brings the bad look but more the strong lemony smell that can sometimes be disturbing... (i sometimes find it myself unpleasant)
I don't like when i pass in front of a shisha bar to get this strong strawberry/rose smell so i guess it must be the same for some people and coffeeshops...
If you pass in front of some stinky place you may give it a bad look thinking "who's sticking this bad air into my lungs"...

You found it incredibly funny that people object to you toking outside a shop in the Centrum where the majority of non-toking tourists walk around and you just sit there happily getting high. Do you wonder why a shit load of shops ( five this month ) are having to close?
Keep in inside or out of sight, even in the RLD or Niewmarkt. If you must toke outside do it where the tourists do not go and even then have regard for the local residents. We are on sufferance at the moment. A lot of Dutch nationals are very conservative and while tolerating the weed do not want it shoved down there throats.
Discretion my friend, and all will be good for years to come. Take the piss and then who knows what.

if they have seating outside its fine to smoke outside, the silver buttons on he ground mark out where the seating should be,
