I really don't like having to pass by bars with their stale alcohol smell. That smell should sicken and disgust any decent human being

I couldn't agree more! I am looking forward to US pot tourism, because you know they'll do it right! Think Vegas.

One of the main reasons i go to Amsterdam is to enjoy the freedom afforded to the pissheads in my own country... No-one bats an eyelid at someone enjoying a pint outside a pub, and my belief is that i should also be allowed somewhere in the world to enjoy that freedom... Just one tiny, little town on this whole planet... As far as i was aware, Amsterdam is that place.

It seems like a form of self-hate when stoners agree that maybe, their habit is a shameful one; to be hidden out of sight like a smack addiction...

...I don't think so!!!

...I feel no shame, or see no wrong in my choice of recreation!

Smoke away, chaps!
Very well put! The hordes of roaming drunken young boys, screaming and singing horrible songs out of tune would seem to be more of an annoyance than blowing a bit of harmless canna-smoke into the vast skies. Also, I actually like the smell of weed, at least good weed...am I the only one?

Just a note: I was not talking about coffeeshop's terrace/outside chairs. I was talking about all the other situation were there's no "official" coffeeshop's outside space: street, square etc. The only open-air places where i felt more confortable was parks.
By the way: I'm not a self-hater (like the ones who KeyMoCha speaks about), it's just that technically weed is not legal in Netherlands but just tolerated and don't want to test their limits.

So you want people to lick the bottom of your boot because you spend a few bucks? Seems to me like cannabis tourism is only a small fraction of their tourism. I wonder if all those beautiful buildings there, that managed to stay erect despite all the WW2 bombings all over various parts of Europe has anything to do with their tourism??? Nah...has gotta be the coffeeshops!... I can see it now....you step off the plane into Schiphol airport "Day, gung maw! Look at all these foreigners!" ......................... wasn't Veggie the troll before Big C?

id say smoking a joint in public in amsterdam is pretty harmless compared to the shit that the football fans started yesterday amongst the stag partys and a bunch of other shit im sure the locals are way more pissed off about than someone smoking a joint...

Rain or shine, I love puffing as i walk around amsterdam. But you need to pick and choose when and where. But I love smoking as i walk to the hotel from the train. As many of you know. I like to stay outside the main city. West amsterdam at the end of track 17. Its quiet, less people. Just long enough for a nice joint.

:( and :(
Name calling, really? Here's another one folks...
Hey Veggie, cannabis is more of a problem than you realize, and you've made it publicly known just how little you know.
Fuck the people of Amsterdam who don't like it? Really?...... I for one would like to thank you for identifying yourself as being part of the problem and most likely never a solution. They live there, so fuck you perhaps is in order? Ahh, absolutely...
...and thank you for the huge  about stoners dropping huge amounts of cash, mainly because most stoners don't have huge amounts of cash to drop in the first place. Regardless, these amounts pale in comparison to the overall revenue generated by tourism. Have doubts, do a little light reading as I've done. Here, let me get some of you started on the path of truth and fact. http://www.cbs.nl/en-GB/menu/cijfers/ci ... efault.htm
Bottom line, overall tourism accounts for approximately 3% of The Netherlands GDP, and cannabis revenue is less than 20% of tourism $$$.
...and the band played on.
Next...

I think what he meant was that you seem to think Amsterdam should be thankful that you would grace them with your presence, when in reality, you should be thankful that it exists... They owe you nothing, and your attitude goes a long way toward making those who are against Amsterdams tolerant approach to tourists even more aggressive with their stance.

Grow up, or shut up!
