have you actually seen that happen? I never have. I've watched one or two people come bloody close but never actually seen a splash.
I did once see a chap cutting bike locks with a bolt cropper and then proceed to throw the bikes into the canal.

Saw a guy set up a makeshift ramp. Take off clothes and ride into a canal in de Wallen on purpose. A crowd of good natured onlookers cheering him on. He was fine.

I always heard the story that the three bodies pulled out the canals each week are disproportionately British.
The other one was that until they got really strict on pissing in the canals (the theory why the Brits ended up in the cut) they tested the water and found it up to 30% piss.
You could shorten the entire process by filling one section of the Singel with out-of-date Heineken and charge Brits to swim about in it - they'd love it*. Even with the very high standards of weed appreciation I see; people still seem to drink any old big-brand lager. It's the soapbar of beer I tell you...
*except me.

personally I wonder how much weed induced paranoia is a factor in the original posters question. However if you behave with respect then locals will not pay any attention to you. Look at it this way- if you live and work in Amsterdam, what do you think your opinion would be of weed tourists? Do you not think you too would dislike stag party/ned/chavy types behaving like a bunch of cavemen, treating the place like a total free for all.
Like iv stated on other threads the atmosphere in Amsterdam has changed in recent years, mainly because of morons acting with no respect. These morons ruin it for everyone else - locals and tourists.
I have always characterised dutch tolerance as "do what you want- as long as it doesn't piss anyone off". If you think what your doing is pissing locals off, stop doing it. simples.
The morons have always gone there - it's just that the newer generation of morons are so much more entitled in their outlook. It's not enough to visit a great city with all kind of marvellous things including CSs - if THEY can't do everything THEY want - well they just moan.
Send the morons to the RLD and tell 'em the blue lights mean really high end hookers. I've done that and sometimes wonder whether if they had the life-changing experience I'd hoped for them...
