Looking for "Spiritual Coffeeshops" and mind melting weed

Post by SpiritWeed »

Hey!
This is my first post on this site, but I've got to admit I've used this site (specifically the forum reviews) for many years so already feel at home here :)

I have been to the Dam many many times, and have a few favourite coffeeshops, each for a diff reason.

But I'm always on the look out for something better, somewhere more "spiritual", more comfy (wooden stools arrgghhh) and with "that vibe"... you know what I mean.

So what do you recommend?

I frequent all the "normal" places like The Grey Area, The Greenhouses, The Dampkrings, the Barney's, the Warmoestraat places etc etc.. But is there anywhere more "spiritual" and more "comfy"?

Last visit I went to Voyagers on the recommendation of users here, and although I liked it, it was hella small! Decent seats, but not enough and therefore you end up sitting a bit too close to the person next to you imo. also not a very large selection of beverages (vital when going IN on a blaze for a few hours).

Last time I aso checked out Katsu (really didnt like this one, not very good vibes, unfriendly staff, and seriously uncomfortable!) and De Graal, which I loved! De Graal is probably now my favourite and any suggestions should be looking at De Graal as the "standard by which to measure from". Decent seating, great wifi, good tunes, decent selection of drinks, not too packed etc... and a nice "spiritual" "calm" atmos. Perfect!

So... any others I should check?

I used to like the Rockery in Leidsplein but they are closed down right?

I don't mind it not being in the middle of town (De Graal is a fair way out) so fire away!

Oh and regards to weed, what's NEW? What is ultra high in THC and similarly CBD? I've always found that Dutch coffeeshops havent really embraced the technological side of things like the USA dispensaries have, in the US they tell you the % of THC & CBD etc and seem to be way more knowledgeable than Dutch dealers who simply say "body stoned" or "heady high" yeh no shit sherlock! How about some medical benefits specific to that strain?

Looking forward to hearing what you have to suggest!

i'm about as spiritual as a johnny on the pope's nose so my best advice is to get stoned in one of amsterdam's many beautiful and historic churches. which is a very poor recommendation really.

All 4 rookerij shops would have been exactly what you are looking for...
But all gone now.. Greedy partner ruined it for all.
They were great ...

Erste hulp might be to your liking
And possibly Kashmir ( buy weed across the street and relax in the lounge)

Thanks!
I'll definitely check those out while we are over :)

What are the most popular strains doing the rounds over there atm? With particularly high THC and / or CBD %'s?

Thanks for the help!

May I put in my vote in against the "high tech" stuff? Amsterdam's coffeeshops are fine just the way they are. I don't need labels advertising high THC percentages. I want to ask HighyBlessed "what's good?" and go with his recommendation.

No, really, if you want the corporate, ultra techy, but totally sterile and business-like version of commercial weed, travel or move to Cali. I like the old continent version just fine ;-)

Other than that, I also like 1e Hulp. And of course the downstairs area of Dolphins (the staff can be a horde o bitches, though)

Everyone has there preferred approaches definitely. I just would like to know to satisfy my curiosity. :D
Also, as a tourist, I often feel that Budtenders are just recommending what they want to get shot of rather than what is actually really good atm.

It seems like "comfy" might be the most important factor given some of your comments. I'm not sure about the "spiritual" factor. Regardless, I agree that the now closed Rokerij chain was probably a good fit for what you were looking for. Most coffeeshops have the potential to exude a spritual vibe given the product that they sell :) . La Tertulia and Paradox were the first cs's I thought of for a nice, quiet atmosphere with good gear and a special vibe, however, the seating in both is probably not what you're looking for when it comes to comfort. Two places that are extremely comfortable, but probably don't tick the spiritual box are Prix d'Ami and Hill Street Blues (Warmoestraat): very comfortable, huge sofas, but a good deal of loud and boisterous young tourists (especially HSB on the Warm.). Which leads me to probably the perfect coffeeshop for you: Hill Street Blues on the Market! It's the antithesis of its rowdier sister shop, that is, it has a quiet mom & pop bookstore vibe with comfy seating, quiet music and a nice view of a canal (Kl...?) and the Niewmarket. I've only tried their product once, a very good sample of Northern Lights. On other occasions I just smoked some of the stash I purchased from other places. A good idea might be to get some top gear(!!) from The Green Place, which is almost next door, exit and walk a few steps into the HSB on the Market and smoke it there, although you should buy at least a drink or something at HSB if you're going to hang out there. As you already know, the fun thing about Amsterdam is trying as many coffeeshops as you can in search of that Holy Grail (no pun intended  ).

I find La Tertulia to be quite spiritual in that the atmosphere created by the girls is calming and relaxing. Far removed from the more commercial shops it is an oasis of tranquility on the lovely Prinzengracht.
