Trying to get back into this fine site after several months out due to no trip planned so no point making myself depressed coming on here, but looking at next April now due to lack of money.
But I'm wandering what coffeeshop closures there have been in the last year?. The first that I've read of is Hill Street Blues, which thankfully is now a smokers friendly bar. But what about other coffeeshops?.

Re: Coffeeshop closures in the last year?
The list posted by Dave is a proposed list, which means that nothing is definite until a shop actually closes... and things can change in Amsterdam. The Dutch are famous for banning something, but in the same sentence they will allow you to do exactly what was banned, provided certain rules are adhered to! So closures are still uncertain...
Right now (July 2013) several coffeeshop owners in the Red Light area are planning to take the Amsterdam City Council to court, because they argue the closures procedure is unfair and they have not been given feasible alternative locations to move to; this was originally promised by the council...
The recent closure (2 years ago?) of all 4 Rokerij shops was a major blow for the city in my view
. Quality of product on sale aside, these shops had a great atmosphere and were superbly decorated.... However, The Old Church from the Red Light district has just re-opened on the site of the Rokerij on the Amstel, so that's good news; it's a beautifully decorated coffeeshop now, but unfortunately their prices are sky high, and deals are pre weighed into €12/€25 bags...
The BIG thing right now in Holland is what's going to happen with the proposed ban on cannabis with a THC content higher than 15%. The government has been suspiciously quiet about that in the last few months....
