First trip to Amsterdam!

Post by Eli_G »

Hey everyone!
First of all great site and forum!

My wife and I are coming to Amsterdam for our first time.
Our stay time is September 15-18.
Which coffee shops are recommended for first timers in Amsterdam? And can tourists purchase/smoke in coffee shops?
I've heard allot of different stories and i would like to know what is the truth about it.
I will appreciate any bit of help, info and tips.
Thank You!

Welcome to the forum.

You have been posted on the September Whos In Town page.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

If you don't see yourself, click your refresh or reload button
Your browser sometimes loads pages from your local cache and
you don't get the latest update.

Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.

Set yourself up with your own T&T or Toke and Talk, where you pick the coffeeshop (your favorite)
and the date and time, I will post it and you wait for folks to show up, if they do you'll have a
T&T. If they don't you still get to enjoy your favorite coffeeshop!

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/membe ... e&u=110129

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

You can do a little practice shopping on the Coffeeshop Menus page.
Any with arrows are less than six months old.

Any nice new menu pictures you can get will be much appreciated.
Always ask first, better told no than thrown out.

Here is a map that shows where you can and where you can't. The can't being mostly in the three southern provinces of Zeeland, Brabant, and Limburg.

First timers get my S G Collins recommendation
I think a read of this will maximize your efficiency once you get there.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

You'll have a blast in the dam. You can buy in any coffeeshop just remember your ID and your manners

It is my understanding that the decision on whether tourists could use coffeeshops was given to local government instead of being a decision made by the national government. The Amsterdam local government (I think it is the mayor who has the final say ?) decided that tourists could use coffeeshops so all is good =) Like was said previously, remember some ID though !

welcome aboard Eli..

both of you should love Dam, weather you want to visit museums or attractions. theres some stunning places to eat, so if shes moaning cause you keep going to coffeeshops theres enough to get her back on side. if she loves to smoke then you lucky bastard :D..
only thing to do watch out for are those bloody bikes when stoned. its worth setting a toke & talk up or attend one, theres normally a wealth of knowledge or a coffeeshop crawl or at least whats hot or not (weed/hash). all coffeeshops will have a few weaker strains, you might like 420 coffeeshop, but i would go for voyagers or utopia. dont go mental from the get go, unless you want to be a dribbling mess (which can be good) but your mrs might not agree.take a few maps as you will get lost, if you need a few maps so you can find your desired coffeeshops just mention what you want.. your first trip is always special so make a list of thing you want to see and smoke, might not do any once stoned but its still worth it. hope you have a really good first trip.
and dlw that hsb might be a pub only now??

I agree with stuart,, just becareful when smoking,, for first timers don't smoke a lot at once, and make sure you have some suger drinks or candy with you,, eat before smoking,, just good advise from a long time smoker

enjoy

wow!
Thanks for all the replies!
we cant wait to get there... it's all we're thinking of!
we will be going around a few attractions, but of course you cant go to amsterdam and not smoke =]
i'm sure there are famous and must go coffee shops, (saw a few people here talking about amnesia) we'll probably try a few places, but mostly looking for a chilaxing coffee shop with good music and a good vibe of people to hang and smoke.
i looked at the menu's page and wanted to ask, when it says 1/3/5 grams, is that as is or is it rolled up already? do i need my own instruments or do they sell joints but more expensive or something?
and one last question-are there any coffee shops that have hash/weed in hukkahs?

the 1 3, and 5 I assume are in grams, yes you can buy prerolled joints pure or with tobacco( I recommend staying away from the prerolled) purchase by the gram or half gram and then get a cheap pipe and donate it to a shop as you leave, ,, I cant think of a shop that has a hooka, but there is Lost In Amsterdam that has hookas , cool place to chill,, doesn't sell weed,, has drinks though,,, anymore questions feel free to ask

You don't know the quality or quantity of what is in them. You can always buy pre rolled empty cones and stuff them yourself.

Enjoy
