Amsterdam is one of the most expensive places on earth to live. Just last month the inflation rate was over 3% for the month. If you can do math you realize that could be over 30% for the year. It is a very expensive place to live. I don't think Gapie can work and probably lives very very humbly like most Europeans and has little or no extra for his social life. He is a fun and interesting guy and I don't think many people have any problem with spending a few Euro's on him for his company and entertainment. Since you do, all you have to do is avoid him or don't offer when he is around. I have never seen him beg and I think his good attitude goes much further then your poor jealous attitude. But whatever. I for one am happy to buy Gapie a drink and share a joint when I cross his path.

Having only experienced Gapie through postings and videos here, I must say that it would be an honor to smoke, drink and hang out with him. It seems like you and 'big c' are in the minority when it comes to dissing Stan the Man, and questioning his value to the ACD community. I wouldn't begrudge some ganja & beers to a local with such vast knowledge of the A'dam scene. WOW! Didn't really think I would post again, but after reading this thread I felt compelled to do so. I apologized for the things I wrote and sincerely meant them. I would have never wrote again, but I am not the op.

I love Amsterdam! And after reading both channels and ACD I decided to go with ACD as it seems this was a community who really wanted to help people out and not just flame people. I really get what you guys are saying about Gapie helping people out, showing them around and storing all of everyone's things and in return you buy him drinks, food, smoke, etc.

Look at it through my eyes for a sec. First off I know my way around Amsterdam so I didn't need him to show me around that town. But last year I wrote a trip report and I mentioned I went to Haarlem and couldn't find Birdies. He chimed in on my trip report and said "too bad I would've showed you the way".

O.k. flash forward 10 months and I'm here asking on this board(before I leave on my vacation) if he will show me the way and he say's yes.

I get to Amsterdam and fully expected him to show me the way to birdies in Haarlem. I smoke joints with him, buy him some beers, and when it comes time to fulfill his end of the bargain he say's "I'm too tired, I don't wanna go, let's just stay in the centrum". HUH All I'm asking you to do is to let's go smoke more weed and hash. It's not like I live over here and can come anytime, I can only make it once a year. I'm not trying to be mean, but even the rest of ya'll say he doesn't have a job so what the hell are you tired from dude? Smoking weed?

Mutually beneficial interaction and co-operation - with other human beings - isn't that what it's all about folks?

If someone provides something of value to you, don't you want to also provide them with value back, and even give more value than you received?

Doesn't it feel really great providing value to good people?

What is the difference if it is money, time, knowledge, entertaining personality, or whatever else that you find valuable?

When I'm in Amsterdam in the end of November, I'm going to share my weed and buy a few drinks for Gapie.

In the end, it feels so much better to give than to take, it surprises me that a topic like this is ever raised on a MJ forum. Smoke some good sativa and remember we are all a part of One Consciousness, and we either all win, or we all lose. Making such "distinctions" between oneself and "others" simply isolates anyone taking that path.

We come into this world with "nothing" and we leave it with "nothing." We are this "nothing" this "unformed Consciousness."

Our life on this earth is truly an amazing experience. And what makes it amazing is other sentient beings, that include humans, animals, and other entities existing in nature.

We get to actually share our experience with others, and get a chance to actually "serve" someone besides our "self."

This is so valuable, but most miss this principle, and instead of focusing on "other" continue to only focus on their "self."

Why smoke weed and not contemplate on the true nature of reality, of who and what we really are.

Why smoke weed, if you don't deeply realize that Love is what matters, and not the fear of being a "sucker" that had to buy an Amsterdam local some weed and a drink.

And "true" Love is optimum interaction and co-operation with other sentient beings.

So, when you are conscious, you choose what is optimal in an interaction. If it's money, okay. If it's knowledge okay.
If it's entertainment okay.

You can also choose NOT to interact, but, then you must realize that you are simply choosing not to interact with a part of your-self, because at the root, we are all part of the One Consciousness, and we either evolve, and this way help the Whole evolve, or we de-evolve and as a consequence the Whole de-evolves.

The choice is always ours!
