although this is not my first trip to the dam, infact I'll share a little story with all of ya..

In Nov 2002, me and a friend of mine traveled to europe for 2 weeks. London, Paris and of course Amsterdam. We left A-dam for the last 3 days of our euro tour. Me being a smoker needless to say made this a highlight of my trip. But my friend couldn't really care less, yes we did the big 3(museams) and I loved every minute of that. But here's the kicker.... since I let her book the hotel we ended up staying a 50 minute walk from Dam Sq.(somewhere east of the Amstel)at the time I didn't care too much since we were trying to save a buck or 2.

Out of the 3 days, I only got to Dam Sq. once!!! So where I was staying was very nice and all but you know you wanna be in the center of the action. She had the nerve to say to me on the first day "you're smoking to much" this is after only 3 coffeeshop visits the first day.... I mean come on.. so the moral of this story is don't got to Amsterdam with a party pooper...anyone have a story like this?

This time I'm going with My girlfriend and another friend of ours. Staying on the Damrak in the middle of it all... My question to you guys is after we drop our bags off I wanna hit up a shop relax then take them both to the Anne Frank House then go back and check it.. Funny, even though I've been there before this is all new to me, lol... I read good things about Betty Boop and Rastababy.. So do you feel these are good places to take first timers?

and yes I know it's gonna be cold, hahaha..

Thank you guys for any help..

If Anne Frank is on your to-do list, then I'd recommend Amnesia or Greenhouse Effect. Both are mellow hangouts near the Anne Frank huis. I think a first timer is gonna get a better experiance off the Damrak bussle.

imho,
chuck.

also near Anne Frank, and great local shops, are La Tertulia on the Prisengracht, and Paradox one block off the Rosengracht. I will be spending quality time in both this January 19-25...
