Wake and bake around Rembrandtplein?

Post by Smith2 »

I'll be staying around there in a non-smoking hotel, and it's made me realise that I've never been in any of the coffeeshops near there. Which would you recommend for breakfast? (Food not necessary, but good coffee and smoke is.)

Old Amsterdam seems to get good reviews, but machine coffee isn't what I want. Arabica Lounge – is it still open? There are suggestions that it isn't, and I can't find anything recent. Saint? Andalucia? There doesn't seem to be a thread about Balou, but searching is made difficult by most references on here being to the poster rather than the coffeeshop.

Also, do any open early? Before 10, ideally.

Given fine, warm weather I'd head over the Amstel to Greenhouse Namaste. Fine outdoor seating. Coffee and a spliff al fresco!
How much did you produce?

I've stayed around Rembrandtplein a couple of times I think I've been in Balou but it may of been another CS close to it, it was ok but never went back. I'd usually take a 10 min walk and go either dutch flowers, twede kamer or dampkring.

Arabica Lounge has looked closed on all my trips since last May, I have not tried to enter but always take a look when i pass by, its on my standard sight seeing route I give my friends who do not go to Amsterdam as much I do. It's a shame as it would have been ideal, nice seating and drinks plus good tasty morrocan hash.

Unless old Amsterdam has had a face lift they were defenatly on the machine drinks last time I was in. It was not overly comftable but if you arrived early I guess you get the pick of the seating. They have a decent selection of hashs on the menu but I have not tried many, the guy behind the counter was a right old grump also.

I guess I would be rolling up a joint and heading out on brisk walk further a field for a better coffeshop experiance if I were you, Het Ballonnetje is only five minutes away if you cross over the Magere Brug.
I like bananas, monkey nuts and grapes. That's why they call me Sam of the apes
