I've always thought he must have been inspired by his native Leeuwarden, as the street patterns remind me of him, but they don't make much of him. His house is indicated on the map, but it's part of the ceramics museum, and they don't do anything with it either.

I'd have thought he'd be popular with stoners. Has anyone been to the museum in the Hague? Or to the Escher meets Islamic art exhibition at the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam, for that matter, which is on now?

The wife and I went a couple of years ago in De Hague, very nice museum. My wife is BIG fan of M.C. and she loved every minute of it.
Did you know he carved everything on Linoleum blocks, then printed them on paper. That's intense. Definitely worth a visit.

Made a special trip just for the museum while I was in Amsterdam in 2012. I have to agree with AzLaker, definitely worth a visit. Tip: make sure you make a note of where the coffeeshops are in Den Haag... not on every corner like in 'dam!

I did fail to go in due to it being a Monday one time(oops, actually thought of it on the train on the way over there but it was too late) and some weird Dutch parade something-or-other event going on in the square right outside the museum the second time.

Great complement to some nice weed, of course (although if that's not a given in this forum, I don't know what is). There's a chill few benches and trees right outside the museum.

Was going to go today, but frankly it felt too warm to explore a new city, with no better map than the one remembered from Google, at least until I can find somewhere that sells them; my phone is even stupider than I am, so no online navigation. Might go tomorrow or Thursday. I have a vague idea where the museum and Cremers are relative to the station – what other coffeeshops do people recommend there?

Didn't see that one. Passed a couple of shops on Herenstraat that didn't look enticing. Went to Cremers for a pre-museum smoke. Saw a few more unenticing shops afterwards, bought what someone else recommended from Meneer Jansen, went back to Cremers, because it was so obviously the best place to smoke (everything else looked like buy & fly, even if it technically wasn't). The museum was definitely worth the visit, and frankly the city would merit at least a couple of days. Stopped at Haarlem on the way back for Knetter and jelly hash from Birdy, which I had visited twice before, but this time, without a map and with one wrong turn, managed to lose temporarily. Fortunately Haarlem's not exactly a big place, and even less so if you're north of the station.
