I myself do quite a bit of planning beforehand. It's a combination of browsing through ADC coffeeshop reviews + coffeeshop menus + google maps. It's actually fun, when the countdown for the trip is coming close to zero. Get's you into the feeling ya know. And it's super easy to check out from google maps which bus/tram would be the most convenient when you need to go from A to B with minimum effort.
This time it looks like that I'll be hanging out mostly at Joordan/Pijp and of course around Spui area.
How much do you plan your trips?
Re: How much do you plan your trips?
I have been so many times now I don't need to plan. I do like to have a general plan by day (subject to stoner ad lib changes of course), such as "today I'm going east to Het Ballonnetje, Kriterion for some lunch, on to CS Happy People, Brouwerij 't Ij, etc.od1nobody wrote:I myself do quite a bit of planning beforehand. Maybe the same general approach for de Pijp, etc.
I'm a tram maniac. I always get a multi day GVB pass and use it a lot. Walking is great, but after you have walked past the same things so many times it makes more sense to ride (back to my "you can't get more time" philosophy). I'm not interested in a bike, personally. Too high to feel safe, or pay proper attention.
Curiously, most of these generalized plans have me at the Nes in the evening ;-)

Re: How much do you plan your trips?
This will be my 8th trip to Amsterdam, so I planning isn't actually that necessary. And generally I never go by the plans that I've made.
It's more like getting in the mood.
But anyways from this forum one can get valuable info on current situation w/ coffeeshops. Like after reading Katsu -thread, I decided to pass this old favorite of mine this trip due the negative feedback.
+ usually I mark up places where to eat. La Perla & Benson's BBQ are on the list this time.

Yeah, that is some bad news regarding Katsu; very disappointed to hear it. But the good news you don't need it for a successful afternoon in de Pijp.od1nobody wrote:This will be my 8th trip to Amsterdam, so I planning isn't actually that necessary. Re: How much do you plan your trips?
Plane ticket, apartment reservation, ACD crawl planned for one afternoon.
Aside from that I like to just roll with it.
(I used to do a lot of research to come up with a list of "good" shops vs "bad." I used that as a crutch while I developed my ability to "see" bud quality. These days I make a mental note when one of my favorites is getting sketchy reports, or if a shop I haven't heard of seems to be gaining a following, but that's as far as it goes.)

Because life is too short to smoke bad bud.

Re: How much do you plan your trips?
Last time, which was the first time, I made a short list of shops, strains and other attractions from reading this forum which was left at home. So we got by on vague memories. This trip, I have a spreadsheet set up that I've filled in over the last couple of years from everyone's comments here. It's only one page and I figure we'll get to maybe a third of it if I remember to bring it this time.
There must have been a door there in the wall when I came in.

If you have a smartphone, get the information on it somehow.thompaw wrote:Last time, which was the first time, I made a short list of shops, strains and other attractions from reading this forum which was left at home.
