They have access if they need it, but it goes through channels. The only reason they would look into if your name is flagged, or if you're caught with something you're not supposed to have.

They have access to it the same way a prospective employer has access to your criminal records. They can request it, through the proper channels. They wouldn't do this unless you give them grounds to suspect.

I'm pretty sure they do have access , how do you know for a fact ? a friend was taken aback while at the entry point to the US when the official told him "remember you can't drive here" and he hadn't disclosed his driving convictions

Without going into too much detail, I've travelled to Las Vegas and Florida. If they had ad-lib access to convictions I wouldn't have got thru customs. It's a case of lying on the ESTA then gritting your teeth and clenching your sphincter when you get there.

Wonderful how the conversation has got turned around . The guy wants to come from the US to Europe by the way, thats why I personally would give it a go. Everyone knows that the US is very tight, always has been, but Europe is a bit more real about these things. Or has been up to now .
Anyway, all of our border agencies throughout Europe are seriously underfunded, so like I say you would have to be flagged for them to give you a second glance. Just another tourist from across the pond come to indulge in some overpriced revelry .
