Hi all,

Like most others who post here I'll be going to Amsterdam soon, and would love to try shrooms/truffles for the first time. I'll be staying just north of Vondelpark, and would like to know reputable places close buy to purchase some. Also would love some advice on how much to take etc

Hello, somewhat reputable place is azarius, it's not too far from vondelpark. They stock sclerotia and I would suggest that you ask from the staff about the stones. Tell them what you are waiting from truffles and go from there. If you are completely new to psilocybins then my suggestion would be Atlantis or Mexicana A. It very much depends on what sorts of things you are waiting from the experience. Then again, do make sure that you take them in comfortable settings. AND NO, while it may be entertaining idea, strolling around the RLD is not a good setting, think more of peace, nature, calm music and good people around.

I can offer you some advice as a Psychedelic veteran of over 100 trips. Over the years iv had just about every type of shroom/truffle you will find in Amsterdam or beyond.

Just because mushrooms/truffles are available in Amsterdam does not make them a good place to try them for first time. The best possible place is at home or a good friends home with close friends. Timothy Leary may have been a wacko but his phrase "set and setting" is the golden rule. i.e your mind must be in the right place, in the right setting. In a crazy city like Amsterdam paranoia and confusion can be a problem. Good trips are great life experiences but bad trips are well, horrible to say the least. Your much less likely to have one in a place your are both familiar and comfortable with.

im not sure where you are from but uk shroom season is in full bloom.

On the other hand trips are best planned rather than spur of the moment decisions. If you have already made your mind up and are determined to do it then my advice is as follows.

Don't try and be a hero on your first trip. Start off at the lower end of the scale in terms of product strength (iv posted on other threads about the available truffles) and start low with your dose. You can easily take more, its rather harder to take less. If you go crazy and have a large dose of the strongest product then you are asking for a bad trip.

Start your trip indoors in your hotel/apartment, make sure you have plenty to drink and eat with you (particularly sweets/chocolate/sugary drink), ideally have one person with you who is not tripping (can act as a reassurance, and stop you from doing anything too nuts). Take them at least 2 hours after a light meal around early evening.

Don't take them when feeling low, tired mentally or physically or after drinking alcohol (don't combine well- can make you sick or prompt bad trip).

Once you have taken them it will take approx. one hour to come on and peak over the following 30 mins. At this point you can judge the effect. If you feel need to take more then do it in very small amounts as a small increase in dose can have a huge change in effect intensity. Overdoing it at this point can make things real bad.

If you do feel it is too intense then have something sweet to eat or drink and stay relaxed. Don't fall for the nonsense that vitamin c or "mushroom stopper" caps are the answer. Both are total nonsense. There are very few drugs which can reduce the effects. Diazepam can reduce the fear and anxiety but not the effects. Zyprexa (olanzapine) a drug for mental disorders can block some of the effects but not them all. Iv had great times with shrooms but also dark times too. Buy the ticket , take the ride.

If you feel comfortable enough and are able to then go for a walk if you want, just stay away from busy tourist areas as you could freak out in crowds. Be careful as well, there are trams, bikes, people and as I discovered the police there aren't massively keen on people trippin in the streets.

In my younger days I took quite a few people through their first trip. The whole 'Orange Juice will bring you back down a bit' was total bollocks but worked well to suggestible trippers. Don't dismiss so readily. Mind you, you've blown that one now.

worst thing you can do is give someone a safety blanket that doesn't work. For someone in distress than can make things real bad. If someone is teetering on brink of a bad trip and reaches for a safety blanket that doesn't work it can make them freak out.

much better to do things that can help. Trying to stay relaxed and Changing things is the answer- Changing the lighting, moving room, changing the music you are listening to, changing whats on tv ect that and reassurance are the only things that really help. A non tripper or experienced fellow tripper comes in handy.

the whole orange juice/sweet thing can only help sickness/nausea/dizziness if its being caused by low blood sugar. It does not reduce/neutralise effects.

Don't try alcohol with truffles on your first trip. Start eating truffles slowly, if you go fast and have a large dose in short time then you will get a bad trip.
