I saw some seeds advertised as feminized automatic and was told that it had something to do with the plant's growing time and changing the light duration, but I don't understand.
Can anyone please explain what they mean by feminized automatic seeds?
Also, on a general growing question- If I have a plant which has a specified growing period before it flowers, can I make it flower sooner by cutting back on the light?
I imagine that the plants would be smaller, but would they also be less potent? Or would they not flower at all until they reach a certain age?
My idea was to grow a plant and give it 18-20 hrs/day of light for about 30 days and then cut the light down to force it to flower.
I'm not a heavy smoker and wouldn't mind a smaller yield, but I would not like a weaker weed.
Could I maximize the potency is some way?
Thanks for any advice or suggestions.
Question about seeds and grow times
Re: Question about seeds and grow times
Feminised Seeds are Seeds which comes from a Motherplant which Seed was treated with some type of Silver.
All Seeds of this Plant will be Females, but some People say the risk of getting Hermaphrodites (Male/Female in 1 Plant) increases
Autoflowering Seeds have a genetic which was crossed with Ruderralis Hemp.
Ruderralis is high in CBD but low in THC (max 5%) and is native to Russia and Hungary mainly.
It even grow in Siberia and is resistance to cold and wet weather.
Cause its native to colder regions the Plant must be sure to Flower very quick,a Ruderalis plant will always start to flower once its reached the 7-9 pair of Branches. The Ruderalis is a very small plant with some buds at the stem.
Breeders have crossed Ruderalis with Potent Indica and Sativa Strains, generating a genetic which grows around 1 meter tall and starts flowering once the plant reaches a certain height and number of branches, does not matter how much sun the Plant gets. You can plant and harvest Autoflowering Plants all Year as long as the Nights are not more cold than 10 degree Celsius.Autoflowers are also great for Outdoor Growing.
A type of Autoflower which gives a high yield is "ogre" from Joint Doctor Seed Company.
From Seed to Harvest in 68 Days.
Now to the normal Sativa and Indica
In Indoor Growrooms the Growers tend to have little Plants, normaly they are allowed to grow for 3 Weeks and then send into Flowering.
A Sativa or Indica will always flower when you reduce the light under 12 Hours but when you dont have strong stem and branches they wont be able to carry alot of bud
You also wanna learn something about "Topping",this makes more bushy Plants and more Harvest.
Plants are not so potent in first weeks of Flowering (look the Greenhouse Grow Session Videos, most Plants will only have 5% THC in first Weeks).
A Good Idea is too wait until 70% of the White Hairs (not the Trycombs) turned from White to Red.When this happens you start to give your Plants alot of Water to flush out all remaning Fertilzers for 2 Weeks and then you can Harvest and you have the most best Taste and the highest grade of thc possible for that Strain.Let them fully ripen and get more THC.
Its also important to dry your weed properly, dont put fresh harvest into ziplock bags it would go
mouldy.
Autoflowering Strains usualy have some percent less thc,but you still get very good Bud when all is done coorectly.I suggest you watch the Autoflowering Weeds which entered the High Life Cup in Amsterdam, they all look excellent and you could not tell that they look not so nice or have less trycombs then normal flowering strains.
A Video showing them is from Andrew Pyrah "Reviewing Autoflowering Strains from Cup" or so was the Name
Good Autoflowering Strains i know "Lowryder","Diesel Ryder","Ogre",it seems "Joint Doctor" is making good Autos.
When you dont want to spend 8 or more $ per Seed take a look at Nirvana Seed Company, they are very priceworthy, you get Seeds for 1,80 already ! and all People i asked said they would sell great Seeds and good Genetics.

General Growing Question...
Although genetics determine the length of flowering needed to reach maturity, flowering can be shortened or lengthened depending on the number of hours of light and dark.
Eighteen to twenty hour light cycle will keep a plant in a vegetative state indefinitely, so one wouldn't use this cycle, except with autos.
A standard practice for inducing flowering is to reduce the light cycle to 12/12. Using a cycle of less than 12 hours of light per day most likely will reduce the yield, and shorten the flowering stage. I've read grow reports/journals where the grower would reduce the light cycle from 12/12 to 10/14 to shorten +16 week flowering plants by a week or two. I've only done it once, with a 12 week sativa, changing the cycle from 12/12 to 10/14 after the 8th week. The trichomes were where I liked them when I chopped at 10.5 weeks. With such limited practical experience, the trichomes could have been ready regardless of the change in the light cycle, but given what I've learned... anything is possible.
Some peeps come to this forum looking for grow advice, only to discover that ACD is mainly about the cannabis culture, with growing and non-cannabis related information secondary. There are a few growers like myself that call ACD home, and are willing to share information and experiences, sometimes at a price (taking the piss, sarcasm, etc...)

Re: Question about seeds and grow times
An important thing for indoors auto is that they will flower when their roots fill the pot, so if you grow in 17 liters pots like me they're going to veg for 2 or 3 weeks, and give bigger plants. With smaller pots they will start to flower earlier but they're going to be small.

Re: Question about seeds and grow times
Thanks, this is interesting, but I'm confused. 2 or 3 weeks doesn't seem much time.Panog wrote:An important thing for indoors auto is that they will flower when their roots fill the pot, so if you grow in 17 liters pots like me they're going to veg for 2 or 3 weeks, and give bigger plants. If I use a smaller pot, what sort of time frame can I expect from planting seed to harvesting buds?
I would prefer to have smaller plants that harvest quicker even though the yield is lower, but I wouldn't want to get weak pot as well.

Thanks everyone, that's very informative stuff.
I'd love to grow a plant or two and see how it goes.

Re: Question about seeds and grow times
Sorry I only grew autos twice, both times in 17L pots. I think with a 10L pot you can expect 2 weeks before flowering, so about 9 weeks from seeds I guess. Usually mine went for 70 days from seeds.

I have alot of Grow-DVDs in my Youtube Playlists, including the 4 hour dvd from Jorge Cervantes.Surfer Joe wrote:Thanks everyone, that's very informative stuff.
