In Amsterdam over Halloween

Post by Mickie »

I'm in Amsterdam for a week over Halloween. As a solo traveller in mid 40s I would appreciate advice and idea's. I'm staying at Fashion Hotel so will need a decent local coffee shop. Would also be interested in meeting others who might be visiting Amsterdam. Have been a couple of times before but stayed At Blue Square and Novotel. Both a bit to far out.

What dates will you be in Amsterdam?
I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.
You can see who else may be in town and any Toke & Talks that are planned.

Thats right. Its on Overtoom about 500 yards west of vondelpark. The park is a nice place to sit and chill although I'm not sure what its like in Oct/Nov. Guess I'll be smoking in rather that taking out. thanks for the tips

my friend said the hotel was ok with people smoking outside under some kind of bridge at night, which was handy for him at new year when it was raining. He enjoyed his stay but they did bust him smoking in his room on the first night.

A bike makes the long walk along overtoom much easier

I was thinking of hireing a bike from the hotel. Should be a laugh. I have no idea why people still try and smoke in their room. I would be to paranoid to try and risk it lol. Don't normally get back to hotel till I'm ready to crash.
I stayed at Blue Square a few months ago. A guy caught smoking a spliff in his room had €250 added to his credit card :(

You have been posted on the October and November Whos In Town pages.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

If you don't see yourself, click your refresh or reload button
Your browser sometimes loads pages from your local cache and
you don't get the latest update.

Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.

Set yourself up with your own T&T or Toke and Talk, where you pick the coffeeshop (your favorite)
and the date and time, I will post it and you wait for folks to show up, if they do you'll have a
T&T. If they don't you still get to enjoy your favorite coffeeshop!

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=110379

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

You can do a little practice shopping on the Coffeeshop Menus page.
Any with arrows are less than six months old.

Any nice new menu pictures you can get will be much appreciated.
Always ask first, better told no than thrown out.

I stayed in that hotel about a year and a half ago, really nice, we smoked in the garden area and on the patio under the heaters when it wasnt super busy and no one ever said anything to us. Lucky you're solo tho because I went with another male friend to find the bathroom had a window to the rest of the room and a clear glass door which was slightly awkward.
The walk along overtoom is quite long but I remember there being at least 3 coffeeshops on it to break up the journey, got some amazing super soft black hash called Petrol in one of them, 3gs for €15. Also there were a few Albert Heins which seem to be the main supermarket in dam which were good for pastry/baked goods for breakfast. Think the closest one we found was the opposite direction from the center, watched half of crank 2 with the owners late one night but half way through my joint they said we couldnt smoke inside, was strange. Was over a year ago so Im not too sharp with the names.
