Hello and enjoy your trip!

If you ask me, your on the right track with staying near the Leidseplein area - it's my favorite. You also named one of my favorite coffeeshops as well - The Noon. You wouldn't find the best gear there but you'll find great prices and a really cool comfortable atmosphere to hang around in - try the fresh mint tea if they have it!

When I stayed at Uptown Hostel it was a hotel that Rookies ran. I stayed there twice and had great experiences, couldn't tell you how it is now that it converted over to a hostel - but the location is ideal. So much to do in that area and only a short walk to many of Amsterdam's finest attractions.

Another cool place to hang out if your an earlier riser, is The Bulldog in Leidseplein. I know Bulldog gets a bad wrap sometimes but for an early morning smoke, they are one of the only shops that open early in that area, I find it fun to sit in the upstairs window area having my morning coffee and smoke while I watch Amsterdam wake up.

The only question on The Noon and Bulldog Leidseplein is that in Feb of next year they could be closed due to being too close to a schools? Anyone have an update on that? This is way I'm heading over again at the end of Oct....

And lastly for me, when I stay in that area, I hit deDampkring late night on my walk back for a fine smoke and a super hot chocolate.

Yes Mattty, Rookies is on that list as well..... So sad, I spent numerious days enjoying those shops! Might sound crazy but I can't imagine an Amsterdam trip without my beloved Noon and that fresh mint tea

You might be better off starting your planning (coffee shop wise) on the 2nd of January when the dust settles on the various closures.
If you want on a par with California you might be disappointed unless you choose very, very wisely as there is a lot of shit circulating in Amsterdam. Not surprisingly most of that shit ends up getting dumped on un suspecting tourists.

Perfect reason to take a 15m train ride to Haarlem!

What dates will you be in Amsterdam?
I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.

You have been posted on the March Whos In Town page.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

If you don't see yourself, click your refresh or reload button
Your browser sometimes loads pages from your local cache and
you don't get the latest update.

Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.

Set yourself up with your own T&T or Toke and Talk, where you pick the coffeeshop (your favorite)
and the date and time, I will post it and you wait for folks to show up, if they do you'll have a
T&T. If they don't you still get to enjoy your favorite coffeeshop!

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=110404

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

You can do a little practice shopping on the Coffeeshop Menus page.
Any with arrows are less than six months old.

Any nice new menu pictures you can get will be much appreciated.
Always ask first, better told no than thrown out.

A Haarlem coffeeshop map.

Birdy is my favorite. Empire and WW Indica are also very nice shops.
