60 years old, 76 steps, covered balcony to smoke and watch Amsterdam go by, hotel carries the bags up and down for you. Steps are steep, but built by ship builders, at least it has a rail to hold on to and not a hunk of rope.
I have seen a lot of unsafe access to basements all over, I feel for the person who took the fall, fell once and it changed my life forever. I hope she is able to go back to work, so people on here can see her again, and her life will be back to normal

Hi, everyone saying her medical bills are 100% covered! this is not true. First off, there is a significant deductible under the insurance laws here, which is generally 350, so if this person has not paid that it will cost her. Second, physiotherapy is generally not covered under the basics insurance and she will almost certainly need that. It is possible that it will be covered due to a workplace accident, not sure about that.

I spoke to Pablo from Strainhunters tours and he said he hasnt' heard anything and it's a normal thing in amsterdam to fall through the hatches, hopefully someone else can get more information
Re: Freaked out at Barney's!
Hopefully it was just a sprain or something and sounded worse than it was! The black guy (with dreads) from Barney's Farm who came in and went down the hatch was pretty concerned and started telling staff to phone an ambulance. It just made me paranoid after it happened thinking it could have been me or my girlfriend. Being stoned out my box didn't help! Hopefully she will be working again soon! But it's normal for people to fall down them?billyriz wrote:I spoke to Pablo from Strainhunters tours and he said he hasnt' heard anything and it's a normal thing in amsterdam to fall through the hatches, hopefully someone else can get more information

I've always been amazed that in all my trips to the Dam, I've only once seen someone fall down the steps in a coffeeshop with several levels (the Rusland, years and years ago).

you are disgusted by my lack of humanity. really, are you sure about that or are you just being a bit hysterical? the business of lowering the odd hard to handle corpse on a furniture hoist is something that i'm told happens in Amsterdam, it doesn't happen because i suggested it, i didn't write that i would like some poor fat person to die in order that i might observe the process of their removal.treetop wrote:As I am disgusted by your lack of humanity. I guess we are all disgusted by different things. You'd like to see a dead body being lowered from an upper storey building on a furniture hoist? What a deeply troubled individual you must be.stanleymoon wrote:it is not unknown for people to succumb to heart attacks and the like while on holiday and occupying rooms at the top of a flight of horrible cloggie ladderstairs.
one has to feel a great deal of sympathy for the poor buggers charged with bringing the corpse of some hugely fat tourist of unspecified nationality down to street level.
I have been told that a building's furniture hoist is sometimes used to expedite such matters, which is a performance that I would really like to see.
on a side note, I am often very shocked at the number of disgustingly fat people one sees in Amsterdam coffeeshops.
what i did state was that this unique aspect of Amsterdam was something i would really like to see, exactly like lots of the other odd, unique and just plain noticeable things that go on in that city.
why does that lack humanity? i suppose you could accuse me of prurient curiosity but then i would just call you a prude.
if it's because i mentioned disgustingly fat people, then you are quite correct. my attitude toward very fat people does lack a bit of humanity. sorry about that, can't be helped.

Re: Freaked out at Barney's!
I am disgusted by the way people often try and hide their own insecurities by pointing out others perceived faults. I just don't like people like that. That is true. It is not just confined to fat people either. Sometimes I'm guilty of doing what you seem to like to do and then I disgust myself.stanleymoon wrote:you are disgusted by my lack of humanity. really, are you sure about that or are you just being a bit hysterical? the business of lowering the odd hard to handle corpse on a furniture hoist is something that i'm told happens in Amsterdam, it doesn't happen because i suggested it, i didn't write that i would like some poor fat person to die in order that i might observe the process of their removal.treetop wrote:As I am disgusted by your lack of humanity. How about a hypothetical example? Let's say for instance that you are as bald as a coot. A total cue ball. A slap head. A chrome dome.
Let's say I was to talk about you in terms of only being a baldy. You know there is more to you than being a skullet. Others who like to point and laugh at your complete lack of follicles don't seem to recognize your better qualities. You might be a highly intelligent individual under that lack of hair. You might be kind to animals. You might be generous to strangers (as long as they are not fat of course). You can't help being bald right? Not your fault. Maybe it is the same with most fat people. There is usually a reason for them being fat and it is not always as simple as them being disgusting, greedy, lazy fat blobs. There is usually some underlying reason for their fatness. In the end surely there are better things to talk about anyway.
peace

If he said Muslims disgusted him then we'd have every do gooder on the board here, but since its just fat people and society accepts that, all good.

Re: Freaked out at Barney's!
your baldness example is very pertinent as i am a baldy, however it is in fact a choice as i choose to shave my head. as for people referring to my baldness, the idea that i would be upset by this involves the assumption that i care what other people think.
people's opinions interest me but i don't care about them.
redeyeye, i think you are a bit quick to make that point. if you care to look treetop took me up on my opinion of fat people in the post right before yours.

stanleymoon almost wrote:yes, yes, yes. perhaps lem could issue some rules on which words and attitudes are approved for use on acd.
personally i would rather keep things the way they are with members calling other members out on what they think are contentious issues and then discussing them.
on reflection i'll just go with, why not?
