all smoking is bad for you. tobacco, tobacco substitute and weed itself. Anyone who claims anything else has not got a clue. All smoke inhaled produces carbon monoxide which damages every organ in the body it comes into contact with, particularly your heart and lungs.

Smoking substitutes have not got nicotine but that is their only virtue. Some contain more tar than tobacco, all of them lack any proven safety.

as all smoking is bad then really why do you want to bulk out your weed and end up smoking something that is bad for you but does nothing for you? Surely it is better to smoke your weed pure, get maximum effect for minimum damage?

Life is full of risks and I believe in free will. If you want to smoke, then smoke. But don't be blind to the fact that it aint good for you. Accept it.

Few other facts. Bongs don't filter out damaging elements of smoke. They cool the smoke but they don't somehow magically make the smoke ok.

vaporizer's (I own a volcano) are not proven to be safe or safer. The claims they make are completely unproven, there is no research of any real quality. I find them very pleasant to use, but to claim that if you set them to a specific temp you will only inhale the good stuff is really quite unlikely. Due to EU rulings this will change in next year as all nicotine vaporizers will have to go through proper testing to remain on the market.

I used to love my tobacco/weed joints. When I quit the evil weed (tobacco not weed!) I did wonder for a while if I would lose my love of getting high. I haven't (and probably never will), I still smoke joints but as they are pure I smoke a lot less. When I look back I wonder how I ever smoked tobacco (I used to smoke 20 cigs a day plus 4 joints for around 15years) and looking at the struggle of others to quit I am determined never to smoke tobacco again. For a while this idea depressed me but now im nicotine free I feel the benefit every morning.
I never said smoking wasn't bad for you
i didn't say bongs were a completely clean smoke merely stated that iv'e started using mine more
i stated that my tar intake went down from an average of 12mg of tar to just 3mg, it says 3mg on the greengo pack they wouldnt be able to put this on their packaging if it wasn't true cause it would be false advertising and they would get sued

I can't afford to buy ounces at a time and have .5g-1g pure joints all the time so using an alternative less damaging tobacco substitute is ideal and when i have no weed i have no need to smoke at all were as before i would still be smoking cigarettes or rolling tobacco to get a nicotine fix

Like you state about feeling the benefit of being nicotine free in the morning is great and everyday this week the need for nicotine has disappeared and its great

is their a particular Vape your looking to get or does the volcano do the job? i was looking at this http://www.vaporizershop.co.uk/vapolution-20-49-p.asp

Good job on quitting. I quit cold turkey (cigs) about 2 months before my trip to Amsterdam. I too would say I smoke less pure without tobacco. High last longer, can actually taste pure, and better lung strength. If you think pure is harsh maybe your confusing hot smoke with harsh? Unless you buds not flushed/kind.... Use a bong. The water cools smoke so nicely. Nothing about a nice flushed bud is harsh. Ill never understand this pure vs mixed argument :?:

Bit of mis-information in your post too j-smoker. Filtering through water removes some of the damaging particles contained in smoke. If it doesn't do anything, why does bong water go yellow?

Of course its only a small percentage but it helps some at least.

im not going to say what I do for a living, but I know what im talking about. Bong water does not remove the damaging elements from the smoke. Fact. Of course the water is going to absorb some of the smoke particles (hence discolouration), the smoke that makes it through still has all the nasty's in it. The notion that the smoke that you inhale is made safe by the water is complete nonsense.

Im not bong bashing, I rather like them. But don't think they are doing something which they are not.

Ok fair enough. But surely the smoke particles trapped in the bong water are going to be nothing but unhealthy for our lungs? They're certainly not going to do us any favors.

This is all top notch info. This is the truth. This is what's required to quit. This thread didn't turn to shit guys. Just some communication barriers. We're all native to somewhere trying to make complex points with simple text.

If you wanna filter way more tar, but still keep smoke cool via bong... Get an Amazed pipe. Fits in standard 14mm bong stem.

to quit-
1. you must want to. really want to. Not kinda want to but also really in your heart want to continue.
2. It must be the right time, if its not you will fail.
3. you must accept that you are a drug addict. the drug you are addicted to is powerful, the only real reason you continue is because your addicted.
4. You must also accept that tobacco has become a coping mechanism for stress. You need to find something else to reach for when you have a bad day/bad news etc.
5. there are no excuses. There will always be bad news/bad days/stresses which can offer an easy excuses to smoke. be strong not weak.
6. Although you are addicted you must believe in yourself. You are stronger than nicotine. You are in control.
7. figure out best way for you. every smoker is different. There are loads of different nicotine replacement products. experiment and find the right one for you. or theres always cold turkey.

Don't get me started on that  ! I hear you, Cisco! I'm preaching the same since more than 15 years(personally never used tobacco). Even if you give them an alcohol analogy(if you mix e.g. vodka with e.g. orange juice you get less effects for better taste)they just don't get it.
Regarding alcohol they often even claim it's all about the taste not the effects since only drunkards do that  ( I see the argument with the taste definitely but it's just black and white thinking).
Let alone this 'It's too harsh on my throat' argument then.
Sad as well as hilarious as so many people in my experience have not much clue about basic knowledge of drug use(dosage, side-effects etc.).
Anyway, congratulations for quitting smoking mixed joints and cutting down your intake, Cisco  !

@J-smoker: thanks for your post, I really enjoyed the one about magic mushrooms(or lsd?)elsewhere as well!

@Billyriz: fingers crossed you get rid of that stuff!

Facts only here:

Bong water actually removes more thc than tar and other harmful irritants. The primary benefit of a water bong is to cool the smoke, thats it.

The net result could lead a bong user to consume more cannabis to get more thc...bonging could ncrease your consumption and the amount of harmful elements you ingest.

http://www.ukcia.org/research/pipes.php

Yes the study is from 1996, but its from a pro-cannabis movement, and there hasnt been a relavant new study that i could find since....
Contrary to popular impression, waterpipes don't necessarily protect smokers from harmful tars in marijuana smoke, according to a new study sponsored by MAPS and California NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws). The reason is that waterpipes filter out more psychoactive THC than they do other tars, thereby requiring users to smoke more to reach their desired effect. The study does not rule out the possibility that waterpipes could have other benefits, such as filtering out gases, but it suggests that other methods, such as the use of high potency marijuana, vaporizers, or oral ingestion are needed to avoid harmful toxins in marijuana smoke.
