Yip take ear plugs as you won't get away from the fireworks. It is still one of the best places to see in the New Year, just loud very loud.

Normally CS are open to 01:00 but many will shut early on NYE. As it has been alluded too, it’s a wild and quite frankly dangerous place, seriously don’t get too stoned in public spaces it’s mad!
Enjoy

Once had a room on the 13th floor over looking the Erasmus bridge one new year. Watched a fantastic display with fireworks fired the from bridge etc and a big countdown to midnight. I was just toasting the new year with the other half and a cheeky joint out the window when the locals started with their 200 shot boxes and rockets in the square outside. Being on a high floor they were exploding right outside the windows. Absolutely loved it, crazy fun

I will be in Amsterdam from 31 December to 3 January with my girlfriend at New Year we will go to the MC theater for dekmantel, first thought to be in the Nieuwmarkt area to see the fireworks ...
the last New Year's Eve I went to amsterdam was in 2005 and I remember the coffeeshops are also open after 3am ...
any advice for someone in smoker-friendly bars open on New Year?

Most coffeeshops will be closed well before midnight, so plan accordingly. And most bars will sell tickets to get in for NYE or simply only let in regular customers starting around 23:00.

You have been posted on the December and January
Whos In Town pages.
You can see who else may be in town during your stay.
If you don't see yourself, click your refresh or reload button
Your browser sometimes loads pages from your local cache and
you don't get the latest update.
Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.
Set yourself up with your own T&T or Toke and Talk, where you pick the coffeeshop (your favorite)
and the date and time, I will post it and you wait for folks to show up, if they do you'll have a
T&T. If they don't you still get to enjoy your favorite coffeeshop!
By default I link your posting to
your profile page here on ACD. - frackit -
your profile page here on ACD. - wakenbake -
your profile page here on ACD. - BudBoris
I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.
You can do a little practice shopping on the
Coffeeshop Menus page.
Any with arrows are less than six months old.
Any nice new menu pictures you can get will be much appreciated.
Always ask first, better told no than thrown out.

Was in XXX for New Years last year, it was a ball. Terrifyingly terrific. Be prepared for the sounds of a fucking war zone. These aren't the fireworks I'm used to here in the US. These things sounded like fucking petrol and fertilizer bombs going off. Rockets flying from building to building, raining down on pedestrians. Fun! Wear a hat.
