Both York and Winchester were once considered England's capital city for that reason. The parliament @ Westminster is that of the entire UK. Thus London is its de facto capital.

The issues of national identity, devolution, and the extent to which England=Britain are very interesting, but even if it can be rather counter-intuitive especially to those who identify with one of the individual countries and do not feel the UK is all that relevant or real even, as long as it exists as a political entity then its capital really is London.

Anyway, all that stuff you posted is irrelevant. The fact is that the UK exists as a political entity, and has a government made up of representatives from all 4 constituent nations. Whether you, or anyone else, believes in it or accepts it does not matter; until or unless the 1707 Act of Union is repealed then technically the UK exists and has its seat in London. The capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast, Scotland = Edinburgh etc, but the captial of the UK is London. Scotland has its own parliament but is not an independent country (and does not seem likely to vote to be one soon either) and still sends MP's to the UK parliament in London which has more power than the devolved assembly.

As I said above, the concept of national identity and what it means to be British rather than Welsh, English or whatever, is very interesting and almost entirely an imagined construct rather than something tangible, but you cannot just decide that the UK does not exist because people in your awareness don't identify with it above their individual national identities.
