they are checking toothpaste in particular these days, due to the 'liquid explosives' fiasco from a couple months ago.

You should be fine. I'd suggest your deoderant container over the toothpaste. Less messy. If it's a pain to stash, you'll be less inclined to tuck it away properly for traveling.

Be aware that some border crossings will be absolutely transparent. Some will have a walk through. Some you will have to cross a checkpoint and show Passports (in/out of Switzerland).

Be clean and dress appropriately.

Have fun. Stay safe from evil.

im not going for quite some time, but im planning ahead to investigate what are the checks in some border crossing,i really want to have it all planned,or at least be somewhat prepared. What brought my attention to this was that when i went last time to europe,i never got any of my bags checked, apart from the occasional sniffing dog at main train stations but those can be easy to avoid just by walking the opposite direction, everything else was smooth sailing,so to not miss amsterdam(went there 3 diff times during trip) might as well take some with me

Be aware,if there is an officer with a dog there will be another with him/her, probably in plain clothes specifically looking for people who see the dog and then change their direction etc. Just a tip.

I drove and took the train around Europe all summer and I never once had to go through any customs/border crossings or even show my passport. Only when coming to or from the UK into the EU.

I didn't go to Switzerland though, and I'm guessing you have to go through checkpoints to get into non-EU countries as well, but in general you'd probably get away with just having it in your pocket. I wouldn't suggest that obviously, but if you have it well hidden like inside some toothpaste, you're almost certainly going to be fine.

I've crossed the border between Switzerland and France many times whilst snowboarding (not physically at that time).... never once had my bags checked but I have to say I wouldn't want to mess with the Swiss border patrol.

They look very very mean......... those machine guns are fairly scary.

I've done road trips that have taken in amsterdam, so i've picked up a bit of dope and gone off to germany, france, belgium etc... no 'borders' to speak of so its not an issue really.

As noted, there aren't many border checks. In Germany, possession of small amounts is decriminalized in most regions, although the definition of "small amount" can vary from 6 to 30 grams, depending on the jurisdiction you're in. In Belgium, possession of up to three grams is decriminalized, so if they catch you with it, they'll tell you, "Hey, do you know this is technically illegal?" then give you back your weed/hash. We took three fat joints to Brussels for a day trip there in July, and smoked them in parks throughout the day. We kept it discreet as possible, so maybe no one even noticed, but we got no hassles.

And while I understand, as you so clearly noted, that your asshole isn't an option, why not just put it in a bag and tape it to that underwear netherregion between your arse and gonadskis? You'd have to wear tighty-whities, but there are some places even the most earnest tough-guy patrolman wouldn't dare go.

I'd suggest double-wrapping, though.

I have take the Paris-Amsterdam train every 2 or 3 months for the last 6 years. I always expect to be stopped by French customs. It doesn't always happen - most of the time there are no customs checks. But my bag has been searched 4 times in those 6 years, twice on the train itself, once on the train platform after arriving at Paris, and once at 7 am on my way to Amsterdam. The agents have always been polite. They always want to know what I was doing in Amsterdam. They have never patted me down physically and searched in my pockets. Not yet.

I agree that the safest way to transport it is inside the body. Second safest would be in the underwear.
