What are the best settings for weed and kif? Can anyone help me out with this or at least tell the perfect temp fro vaporizing weed and kif
I love Kif
For good weed i usually go with ~6-6.5. If the buds are drier than normal i go a little lower (like 5.5).
For commerical/Mexi weed, i crank it up to at least 7. Since the vape isn't as tasty i prefer to get as dense a vapor as possible.
For kif/BHO/dry hash, crank it all the way to 9. Luckily for me i had a good bit of hash and kif lately so i have been playin around with different way to do it in the cano. My fav seems to be to fully vape some herb (at least two runs) and then add the kif or BHO on top (with kif i mix it in slightly). Then throw in back on the cano on 9.
You can also take a couple extra screens and just drop them into the empty herb chamber, then put your kif/BHO/hash on top of the screens and vape on 9. The extra screens will prevent anything from melting thru the main screen and INTO the volcano, which would be BAD. I have had mixed result with this method. On top of some herb just seems to work out better more often.
If you want to vape hash make sure it is very dry, i had some kinda fresh/moist hash that just did not want to vape at all.
One last thing, often times it take a lil longer for the kif/BHO/hash to get goin, so you end up with a not very dense vaopr in your bag. To remedy this, just put the chamber on the cano without the bag on it. Start up the cano and after a few seconds when you start to see vapor click the bag on.

Mazdog, thanks for all the info on hash/kif/etc. I've had my volcano for a few months and haven't quite gotten around to experimenting with that stuff yet.
I was wondering if you had heard anything about the liquid chamber for the volcano? It says they are for use with liquids (duh) and resins, but I have yet to hear from anybody who has actually used these. Thanks for the help.

i pretty much haven't smoked in a year. my next trip to amsterdam in a couple weeks is going to be all vapor all the time, hopefully.
the volcano has really changed my life.
i don't know about resins or liquids. i do like to put in whole buds (1/3 gram) on the first bag (temp around 7) before i crush the buds for the second/third bag.

Interesting that you mention using whole buds for the first run. When I first got my Volcano I used a grinder to get fine herbs but, after a while, I realised this was wasteful and unnecessary. Now, like you (Patrick), I only roughly break up the buds for the first run. Once it’s been vaped once, the herb is very dry and can be fine ground between my fingers for the second run.
After the second run I usually save the remnants to smoke in joints. Again, initially I would mix the remnants (can anyone think of a good name for this remnant stuff?) with some fresh grass to make a joint. Basically, I used the remnants instead of tobacco. After a while, though, I found this was unnecessary too. Now I just smoke the remnants on their own. It’s like magic how the Volcano makes grass last forever!
I once tried a bit of hash in the Volcano to see if it would work. It was only some crappy soapbar. Ground it up very fine and it worked perfectly. Even got that rubbery soapbar taste.

i grind my buds in a space case to collect some kif.
then i use the vapor poo to make ISO oil (basically a quick wash in 99% Isoproyl alcohol...then evap the iso....what you have left is some potent oil to add to joints or tops bowls with).
much more info about oils (ISO and/or BHO) can be found at www.overgrow.com or just ask, i have been researching this stuff alot lately.

I've been saving my "vapor poo" (we gotta think of something more....appealing to call it) since I've had my volcano and I've got a good amount. What's this quick wash you speak of? i named mine, misty....when you insert the whole bud you can vaporize all the crystals off the outside of the bud without losing any in the grind/crush. with fresh high end gear, you can get a incredible taste and buzz.
i also use reynolds cooking bags, the large size, not the turkey size, after a few uses, i turn them inside out and use them again. you can then cook a tastey chicken in the bag.

ok here goes my quick QWISO (Quick Wash of ISOproyl alcohol) rundown.

you will need;
-herb/vapor poo/whatver ya got (i do this with large quantities of shitty mexican herb)
-a couple jars of ISO/rubbing alcohol (the higher the percantage the better, i use 99%)
-a couple med to large size glass jars
-a strainer
-a funnel
-coffee filters
-glass/pyrex dish (9inch pyrex pie pans work awesome)
Process
-place herb/vapor poo in large glass jar
-pour in enough ISO to just cover everything
-seal the jar with a lid and shake like you are MADD for 90-100 seconds
-now pour this muix of ISO and herb thru a strainer into another jar (you don't want the herb in contact with the ISO for any longer than 120 seconds, so by pouring the whole mess thru the strainer you quickly collect the majority of the herb and let the ISO flow out)
-now place a couple coffee filters in the funnel, and place the funnel over the glass collection dish
-pour the strained ISO in the coffee filtered funnel (the ISO will drain very slwoly into the dish, therefore some kind of stand for the funnel is reccomended)
-once all the ISO has been filtered thru the funnel you are ready to evap the ISO
***this is when things can get dangerous and possibly cause SERIOUS injury****
You need to evaporate the alcohol off. ideally this should be done outdoors, therefore these instructions will describe how to do so outdoor. If this process is changed be sure to take ALL necessary measures, to protect your life...seriously
-To evap the ISO a double boiler setup is used.
-Using the electric hotplate, heat a frying pan or sause pan with water to a low boil.
-Place the collection dish on top of the pan of floating in the water bath (you don;t want the collection dish to touch the pan if you put it it the water)
-leave the hotplate on med (just shy of boiling)
- the ISO will evaporate in the course of an hour or so (depends on amount and quality of ISO used)
-after you are sure ALL the liquid in the dish had evap remove from heat..cover and let it sit for the night (this allows for further final purging of any remaining ISO)
-next morning you should have plate with a thin layer of oil stuck to the bottom of it.
-now take a razor blade and carefully scrape up the oil and place it in container. Its now ready to smoke.
Oil color and consistency will vary depending mainly on material used.
Using actually buds will result if lighter and harder (almost crstally) oil.
Vapor poo leaves a hard reddish oil.
Mexican/brickweed is often very dark (almost black) and very sticky and gooey.
there you go...and seriously becareful alcohol is very flammeble and the vapor of evaper alcohol even more so.
