This was the worst coffeeshop of our trip. It has a very, very unfriendly vibe. Loud techno music. Glaring bouncer at the door is never a good sign. The shop was mostly full of loud punk kids. Being an older couple (late 30's), this normally does not bother us, but it felt almost hostile inside. We felt an angry unfriendly vibe from all the staff. Had a quick drink and left. Avoid this place. There are much better coffeeshops down the street. Try the Blues Brothers, nice people good music.

I suppose it's ok if your in a very large group but for me the worst shop I know, I would if forced even prefer the Grasshopper or Bulldog

Now that is what I call customer service - keep it up La Canna and you may be closed by Xmas...I still would not wish any coffeeshop the closure, as they are all expressing the freedom of this city, but if anyone deserves it then this shop is in the lead.

I fully agree with the poor reveiws on La Canna - it is a truly terrible place that deserves no custom.
The unfortunate thing is that places like this will always survive and make good money because of the amount of 'uneducated tourists' that flood the city.
It has a great location and must get a lot of passing custom because of this. Most visitors to Amsterdam are on very brief trips and the place looks good from the outside.....someone will say 'Hey, lets try in here' and before you know it you've parted with at least €20 for herb and half as much again on drinks......that adds up to a lot of takings over the week.

This place is the pits, avoid it at all costs.....especially when you have De Kuil around the corner, a short walk to T'Nes etc etc

I had a good experience at the La Canna. But then again, it might of been because we were a couple of girls. Who knows? didnt buy any smoke there, and just hung at the bar. smoked other coffeeshops stuff. Didnt have any trouble using the toilet for free.

I never bought gear here, but I must say I love the huge size and atmosphere. There's a whole row of stools along a big window on the second floor with a great view of nieuwendijk. They also have real couches to sit on, something rare in coffeeshops.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. IT IS A JOKE!! AND A CRAP SHOP TOO!!

No, I didnt go to this place. I just wanted to say that my mate and I chuckled everytime we passed it - what a joke!

What a dive of a CS, please do not go to this place for fear of losing any credability lol

I liked many coffeeshops in the general area and this was one I kept coming back to. It was not my favorite, but it was comfortable for me and it kept me coming back for several reasons.

I liked the tequila, playing pool and the decor. I'm from Miami so it had a homey feel, and lots of babes the nights I was there. The stash they sold was mediocre and I always smoked my own there.

The service was good and the waitresses were friendly. Once they knew we were drinkers too they kept coming by and keeping us supplied.

The place is more wide open, in an up and down kind of way than most places and that worked.

Basically a solid place to spend a couple hours getting sloshed. Then you smoke another one and head out to the next place.

Yeah, I came in here once, rolled a joint and left. It was over priced, the staff wern't freindly at all and half of the tables had reserved signs on. They seem to waste alot of money on advertising (every magazine/website/info we sen had a ad in) maybe they should spend money on cleaning and customer service training!

LaCanna was the first place I wandered into on my first visit to the Dam. I was apprehensive about the whole coffeeshop experience, and frankly, a bit worried about the strength of product in the Dam.

I walked upstairs, asked the weedman what was recommended, sat down and rolled a spliff. After a few minutes, I thought to myself, geez, this town is overrated.......

Then I found Abraxis (my second shop ever), after a few minutes, I thought to myself, geez, this town is underrated.

Haha, I love this. Its so true, LaCanna is like the big famous 'Grasshopper' built purely for The tourists. I always think you know your in a bad coffee shop when the only dutch in it are the staff...

La Canna is just a slice of life. It is what it is and taken in the context of the many many shops it has personality.

Now I don't mean to lecture you people BUT...

Think of it like a woman, or even women in general ( or guys for you girls and all) they come in all shapes and forms and each and every one of them have their own attraction. Fat skinny old young (but not too)pretty ugly blind deaf or dumb. If you like women that's the cat's meow.

Same with coffeeshops. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A BAD ONE!!!

They are just different. Different strokes for different folks.

Therefore La Canna is a wonderful slice of Amsterdam life for me.

With the shops having to decide between weed and wine I think La Canna will probably go to wine. I could be wrong.
