Our crime is truly bad enough no need to make it far worse than it actually is.
Here are the facts from the FBI and US Dept of Justice 1986 - 2005 in case anybody actually wants facts.
http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/05cius/data/table_01.html
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1986 US population 240,132,887 20,613 homicides
1991 US population 252,153,092 24,703 homicides
2005 US population 296,410,404 16,692 homicides
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2005 weapons used in homicides breaks down into
hand guns - 7543
rifles - 442
shot guns - 517
other guns - 1537
-----------------------------------------------------------
knives and cutting instruments - 1914
blunt objects - 597
hands,feet,fist - 892
fire - 123
narcotics - 44
strangulation - 120
asphyxiation - 96
explosives - 2
poison - 9
drowning - 20
other weapons not listed - 943
---------------------------------------------------------------------
of these
6,724 were by an unknown attacker (never identified)
2070 by a stranger
the rest by someone they knew
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If Prohibition was ended and the problem of addiction was addressed in a more intelligent manner the numbers may go down
If Washington DC would take care of America first and stop trying to run the whole world these numbers may go down according to their own statistics 12% of all documented American citizens live below the poverty level (12% does not include all of our homeless Americans or the undocumented illegals).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most Americans look at a gun as insurance just like home and fire insurance something we hope we never need but we want to know that if it happens we can protect ourselves and our loved ones and that is the normal American mind set not the crap you see from hollywood or hyped up politicians or reporters trying to get in the spotlight.
