1st Trip for my 30th....

Post by KravMan »

Afternoon All,

After a very long wait & 2 failed attempts with mates to organise trips over I'm finally getting to visit the wonderful city of Amsterdam.

I have few foodie stops to try on my list already - Kobi Burger bar, De Klos BBQ and Pancakes Amsterdam.

Touristy wise the usual - Anne Frank, Van Gough & Heineken.

But the all important coffee shops, here's where I'm after you lovely peoples opinions!

Voyagers is right by my hotel & has been a must visit for me for some time, but other than that I would love some recommendations.

Now I'm a pretty seasoned smoker but as the trip is with the girlfriend I (begrudgingly) agreed to not spend all our time in coffeeshops so if I can get peoples top 3 to visit (menu selection & general vibe the criteria) this would be a massive help.

Also any other foodie / touristy places to hit up that would be fantastic!!!!

Much Love,

KM

Tourist-wise:
Heineken is cool, Rijksmuseum is awesome. I know it sounds lame but actually I think Artis Royal zoo is worth a visit too. I live and work as a safari guide in the African bush, and am therefore programmed to hate zoos, but it's one of the best out there for sure. Also, Waterlooplein market is a great place to find weird second hand trinkets and shit to take home... If that's your kind of thing...

Coffeeshop-wise:
Utopia and Voyagers are hard to beat in terms of service and product. They have constantly shifting menus which means good new stuff comes in the whole time. Anyday is a new favourite of mine too - the service is fantastic, the menu always has some great bud and beautiful hashes (Reserva X is always top), and they have a really comfy space to sit upstairs and smoke the verdampers.

As for coffeeshops that aren't 5 minutes from the station, De Graal, Club Media and Katsu are great if you wanna head down to De Pijp (where you can find some very nice places to eat too). Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum.

What dates will you be in Amsterdam?
I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.
You can see who else may be in town and any Toke & Talks that are planned.

First timers get my S G Collins recommendation
I think a read of this will maximize your efficiency once you get there.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

Enjoy

We found the Heineken brewery a real tourist trap, if you want a more traditional experience then you are better off trying Brouwerij't IJ (the windmill brewery) proper beer made organically with love and devotion.

As for coffeeshops you can't go wrong with Club Media, it's a bit out of town but worth while making the effort. A large selection of top weed and hash choices at a fair price, friendly welcoming service plus a very tasteful, smart, clean interior to boot. There is a good mix of both locals and tourists using the shop, I have never had a bad time

Get off the beaten track and you will find the real gems in the city :-)
I like bananas, monkey nuts and grapes. That's why they call me Sam of the apes

You might be the only safari guide on ACD. The urban jungle of Amsterdam must be a nice contrast to life in the African bush. The flies there were enough for me. They could keep up with a jeep going 30mph biting me though 2 layers of thick khaki. Bastards. And you should have seen the size of the spiders.
How much did you produce?

I love the Thai food at Bird. There's both a sit down resto and a snack bar. Also right up the street from Jolly Joker, and while I wouldn't hang out there, they do some mean edibles.
