I feel like this question has an obvious answer but I couldn't find anything via Google so I'd like to confirm.

Do any coffeeshops allow you to bring in your own alcohol, or does the ban extend to BYOBooze as well as sale?

Go with the obvious.

Straight answer - No alcohol allowed on the premises!!!
This is one of the main rules of coffee shops, along with no one under 18yo allowed on the premises, shoes and shirt required, no tobacco (some allow, however many are fined, and there's the risk loosing operating license - see t'Nes Cafe smoker friendly establishment).
Lastly, instead of trying just Google (assumption since it's the only search engine you mentioned), give ACD search function a proper work out.
Want to know what I found when using our search function? The information you seek, covered in many threads. When reading some of the posts, I began remembering the days when Rookies and t'Nes served bud, hash, and alcohol. Those WERE the daze my friends...

Luckily for you there are places to have a beer and a smoke in Amsterdam. Plenty of them are very close to good coffee shops.

Does everyone think that? Alcohol isn't really my thing, but I live in England and my friends drink in pubs, so I go along. If there's somewhere I can sneak off to at some point to have a cheeky smoke, I feel a hell of a lot better for it. On the other hand, continued drinking may tip me over the edge – at least until I can get away again, and have another smoke.

I don't like smoking a lot if I'm drunk just as I don't like drinking a lot if I'm very high but chasing a nice Dam high with a pint or two in a smoker friendly bar is pretty perfect.

Back to the original question - one of the few golden rules or coffeeshops is strictly no alcohol. But if you want to combine, as has been said, there are plenty of bars that'll let you bring some weed to smoke. Batavia, La Grotte, Kashmir Lounge, Nes (for now), Barney's Uptown, Stone's just to name but a few that I actually really enjoy.

I didn't see any information on this when I searched, what search terms did you use? "BYOB" and "bring your own alcohol" don't work, and remember I already knew it was illegal for shops to *sell* booze. Ten crowns to the first to find me a post or external link that says the law forbids all alcohol on the premises.

I've visited over 200 coffee shops and ALL had the same policy - NO ALCOHOL. I will admit that I haven't been to every coffee shop in Greater Amsterdam, so there very well could be a shop that allows open containers, but I doubt it, if they like to remain open for business that is.

Gotcha. Thanks for the advice and for sharing your experience. This forum is 1000x more direct and to the point than any webpage. For example, the links you posted, they talk a great deal about how coffeeshops can't sell alcohol, and how some bars allow BYOBlazing, but don't address if any coffeeshops allow BYOBoozing. I inferred that there was a low probability that alcohol was allowed, but I couldn't find a forum post or a website that definitively says yes or no.

I needed the wisdom of the boards to know for sure.

I have helped throw drunk guys out of coffeeshops a few times when they became belligerent. Dampkring and Katsu come to mind. If you are even wobbling a little you won't be allowed in most of the better shops. You can't bring your booze into any shops, including restaurants as far as I know. It's not another planet, just Amsterdam.

I get that many people think that "anything goes" in Amsterdam, but BYOB is common where I am in the USA. I can understand where the question comes from.
