Trip report mid Jan 07

Post by nytvd »

Call me a lucky guy.....just a month or
so after my last trip and there I was
again on another European trip and
since my meetings involved multiple
points in Europe - guess which city
I chose as home base...you only get one guess

So my first day started very early - got into Amsterdam
and the weather was OK - not too cold and
no rain - stopped off at Amnesia as it is open
at 10AM and got some Laughing Buddha - this
was a very nice sativa - the buds were compact
with curly hairs and the smell was very good - I
had not smoked for a few weeks and this set me right...

After that started wearing off I got some Hippie
which was a great Indica - think I heard about
this strain from someone that wrote about it
here - maybe they got it in Carmona? Any
way I ate something and walked around for
hours - first I went to the Begijnhof Garden
for my first time - very nice spot - close to
the Spui and Dampkring for perspective sake.

Then I took the tram to De Pijp and walked
around there for a while.
Here are some pics from Sarphati Park -

After a while it got dark and I went to Basjoe -
never been here before and I went based
on positive reviews of others.
Basjoe is a great place to hang out -
they would not sell half grams (my preference
as it allows most weed in short time...)
But I had no problems with the Early Pearl -
a very nice smoke.

After that it was on to some bars and dinner,
beers , smoke and bed.

On my second day I hit GA for some Matanuska Tundra
I wanted the 4077 but they had none.
Anyway this was a good powerful indica that I enjoyed
- good body stone too.

The weather started turning nasty - the beginning
of Storm Kiril but anyway I braved the rain and walked to
the museum in the old post office

This museum has some interesting contemporary
exhibits as well as a great space on the 11th floor
that functions as a restaurant as well as events.
Later that evening the rain was too much so I spent
the rest of the day popping into a few coffeshops
to smoke my stuff and hang out in the room.
Popped in to Nes to get some Kush and say hello to
DC- always a good time at Nes

Now here is the unplanned twist to my journey -
Coming back from Germany by train that Thursday
we were stopped in Arnhem and told that due
to the storm all rail travel was ground to a halt.
After hanging out in the chaos of the train station
for a few minutes I figured that I was stuck
for the time being...

First - I thanked my lucky stars that we
were stopped just over the border from Germany
barely inside Holland.
Then I proceeded to scout for a local Arnhem CS...

And yes!!! I found one.
It was called Joint Venture, up the stairs
from the street and it was a cosy
place in the Centrum. I got a gram
of K2 for 5 Euros (nice, huh?)
And proceeded to make the best of my predicament...
In the end it all turned out OK - I got
to see a bit of beautiful Arnhem Centrum and
after a few hours hooked up with two more people
and shared a cab into Amsterdam - good thing
since rail service was out till next day
and there were no hotel rooms in Arnhem...

On my third and last day I went to GA and got some
golden soles hash which is very nice
and some chocolope weed.
I was looking for some Martian but they were out -
the guy offered me some C13 and Chocolope -
both smelled amazing - the C13 spicy and the Chocolope
incredibely sweet. I must say - DNA Genetics is taking
this science to new levels of high quality.
I have never seen such gorgeous bud in my life.
And the high was incredible - not too strong but just right.
Even for the high price - this is a must try.

After GA I walked around some more...

went to the Amsterdam History Museum - very nice
and the inner courtyard is another one of those
hidden places in the middle of the city -

At the end of the day went to Amnesia
and got some manala cream hash- always
good and headed to the Nes to finish off
my stash and get some beers.

Many posts have described the bake shop opposite 420...
well - their strawberry cheescake and chocolate croissants
are out of this world - I had them every chance I got...
the perfect munchie snack...

My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Can't wait for next trip...

great report!

I'm interested in the Stedelijk too, we were gonna go on our trip but it had just moved, would you reccommend it? And where is it located now, roughly.

The little detour of yours sounds interesting, you sure made the most of it.

The Stedelijk Museum is usually down south in the museum district but is temporarily located in the Post CS building, which is the tower shown in nytvd’s report and is located by the railway lines just to the east of Centraal station.

My girlfriend is more of an expert on this stuff than me, being a big fan of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, but she wasn’t so impressed with the Stedelijk. This might have been because only some of the exhibits are in the temporary location.

As nytvd says, the café at the top of the building is great with a fantastic view.

when going to the temporary stedelijk museum
i expected more of the traditional stuff but
it was all very modern - some i liked, some not.
would not say it is a must see but it is a cool
place and the restaurant on the 11th floor is very nice.

I do recommend the Amsterdam History Museum -
in the center of town on NZ Voorburgwaal and worth a couple
of hours.

I'm talking VERY modern, like projectors with slides and music,
short films, photographs and stuff like that....
multimedia is the word i'm looking for here.... :D

Epsilon - Arnhem is a town I always go thru on way to Germany...
so I never stopped there before...
The centrum is beautiful - I walked thru some alleys that had
nice little shops and restaurants, the layout of these
alleys were different than anything I had seen in
Amsterdam - circular, narrow and quaint.

After returning home I did a bit of reading - Arnhem is
as old as Amsterdam and therefore has a rich history.
It has the biggest zoo in the Netherlands and
has a reputation for being very green oriented.
Another novelty that I did see - electric bustrams that are
seen only in Arnhem. Would I spend a day or two if I could?
Most definitely! The CS was very pleasant (and 5 Euro/Gram prices!)
and I struck up a conversation with
some locals in my first 5 minutes there.
I had the feeling that were I stuck there for the
night - someone would have offered me a place
to crash for the night...it was that friendly.

And yes - I was very fortunate to find two other
travelers looking to get back to Amsterdam - one of
which was a local that lived on one of the
canals - he was able to direct the Arnhem cab driver around
the mess in Utrecht, thru Hilversum and into Mokum...
we were very fortunate to have such a knowledgeable navigator
otherwise it would have been much harder to get back.

hey maz, I found that the traveling exhibit of Van Gogh carried more of his more popular peices then the museum itself, there fore I was not that impressed either. I really enjoyed the traveling exhibit that came to my town.
I need a miracle everyday
