how are you finding life in the azores? been there long? what is the local weed and scene like there? how long is the flight from azores? would you recommend the azores as a place to go? how would you compare it to spain/canary islands for example.

I was born and raised in the Azores (Pico Island, highest peak in Portugal). Just lived for 4 years in Lisbon while I was studying. Then I returned (to another island) and Im living in Terceira (home of an USA military base) for the past 3 years. The weed is, at least among portuguese fans, known as one of the bests in the country. Almost all of the production is outdoors so its kinda of seasonal. But the main problem is that, despite decriminalized, the authorities still face it like its an hard drug. There's a lot of apprehensions and because of that is not easy as it may sound (and cheap) to get it. However you can have a small amount of it for personal use.

I would definitely recommend the Azores if you're a nature/adventure fan. We've won several prizes and lots of media attention in the past few years. I've never been in Canary Islands, just in Baleares, and it has nothing to do with the Azores. We're more "virgin" and genuine. Thats my humble opinion. You have flights from Lisbon and Oporto and it takes between 2/2h30 depending the destiny island.
