Using a mobile phone

The data packages offered by Telus Canada are absurd, they want 400$ for 100MB. I know my phone is locked so i dont think i can just get a vodaphone sim and pop it in.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I need a phone for maps, Instagram, FB, etc..

I'm sure lots of places will have free WiFi. Just turn off your roaming data and use the WiFi.

Just print of the ACD map and go for a week without the internet, it's not that hard; as a species we only managed for like 10000 years before it was invented

Im also wondering about this, is it possible to buy a NL sim card and put it into a foreign phone? i think it is as long as its able to recieve the radiowaves in NL. But how long will say E10 top up get you for internet use?

If a SIM card from NL will work in your phone is simply a question of whether your provider has put a SIM lock (or net lock) on your phone. If they have, your phone will only work with SIM cards from your provider. Here in Germany, providers have to unlock your phone after 2 yours on request. Recently, however, all the providers have stopped the net locking crap.

As for the "airwaves" ... it seems that most European providers now operate at 2100 MHz, with T-Mobile and KPN also using 900 MHz in the Netherlands.

If you're unsure, you can just borrow a friend's SIM card from another provider and pop it in your phone.

If you can use a Vodafone card, 1€ per day will get you 100 MB per day (last time I checked, last summer)
