zandvoort or zoo

Post by andyc »

heading back again in two weeks for another visit.
probably been about half a dozen times now.
as usual i'm doing a list of things to do and places to visit.
got it pretty much sussed now apart from last day before i head home.
cant make up my mind between a visit to zandvoort or the zoo.
time restrictions mean i can't do both

has anyone been to both, and offer a view?

cheers

Yeah I have been to both and enjoyed both too. I love looking at animals and to do it when super high is even better, I did not like how the lions just paced in circles though, they could do with a larger enclosure. I liked Zandvoort and there are a couple of cool coffee shops too, though I went on a nice sunny day and you may want to take this into account when choosing your activity, I think the zoo would be more suitable on a miserable day (though it was blazing hot the day I went). Also remember the zoo is about €20 where as a return to Zandvoort is about €10 return.

Which ever one you choose I am sure you will enjoy it

I like bananas, monkey nuts and grapes. That's why they call me Sam of the apes

Let the weather decide. If it is nice then go to Zandvoort. If not then the zoo could be a better idea.

F*** the zoo! Having animal in display for humans is like when they disolayed black children in zoos !! On the other hand zanvoort is nice and the beach ... You can walk from ijmuiden to zanvoort or walk to Katwijk aan zee ...

the zoo is incredibly depressing when you are high - the animals are lethargic and pacing in cages and that alone can easily crush your heart. The one highlight is the butterfly sanctuary - that can make you smile for days.

the beach is awesome on the right day.

I feared this might be the case. I've actually never been to the Zoo. Only the Botanical gardens which are super by the way. If you don't like watching sad animal then the Hortus Botanicus could be a good 'veggie' option. :D

a 2nd vote for the Hortus Botanicus!

i really tried to like the zoo -- but, zoos really are like pretty jails and there is no way around that.

The Botanicals are great for a bad day cos they have hot houses and outdoor areas. You can keep warm inside then slip outside for a cheeky smoke even because you could really spend most of the day in there. They have a few animals there too I think IIRC.

Zaandvoort is very very nice. We went once on an on/off rainy day and we had k-way rain gear (the kind that rolls up into a tiny pouch). Even walking on the beach in the light rain was amazing with reflections and beautiful puddles with tiny pipe fish (sort of like sea horses) swimming about. We had lunch in one of the many beach restaurants which was also very nice. If you don't have a k-way, I'm sure that in Amsterdam you can find one easily. Take a plastic bag for your shoes and a bigger trash bag to wrap around your backpack. Enjoy this beautiful romantic place...

That's it avoid the zoo, no one go, I am sure the animals (bred in captivity) will find nice new homes in the local crem, after starving for a few months  what would you like to see, fat bored animals or dead and thin, you decide

Now I have played with your conscience, I would go Zandvoort just for la paz
