not cheap but can do concentrates too.
I looked at that one - feels real nice in the hand for sure.

The Firefly is pretty nice. I like the '1 button instant heating' a la Magic Flight.

One thing that put me off a little: the load ALWAYS needs mixing to get an even cook. If you don't mix, the load is still green in the center. Personally I find this too much bother & mess, as I usually need 3-4 bowls to be satisfied. Getting high shouldn't be such a lot of work :) Other portables (even the cheapo Flowermate) have found a way to cook the load evenly without need for stirring, so I think the Firefly is a bit behind, and I wouldn't really buy one for myself. I'm interested to see that company's next model though, once they improve it.

Also, the battery life of the Firefly is surprisingly short compared to others. Because of short battery life, along with the chunky size & weight of the unit, I think the Firefly is best as a "home portable". Something you can carry around the house without need for cables.

They still work very well
Keep in mind if you're using dry flowers, these coil-based devices are well known to combust your material, which technically disqualifies them from being called vaporizers. They are electronic smoking devices, which is a different category. What they produce is a mix of vapor and smoke. Nothing inherently wrong with that, but I think its important to know the difference, especially for those people with health concerns about smoking. Mind you, I'm aware that some users have modified their units with ceramic spacers etc. which make them closer to true vaporizers.

I'll be testing the Crafty & Mighty soon, quite curious about them!

Just received the water pipe adapter for my Flowermate…. http://wizardpuff.com/products/universa ... pe-adapter
Now I can attach it to any 14mm or 18mm male or female ground glass adapter.

This thing milks up a 40cm straight tube better than my desktop dabuddah!!!

Hold your horses those thinking of buying the new Flowermate V5.0s!

I've been testing portable vapes for a couple of months now starting from the really cheap working upwards, right now I'm up to £120 in price.

I purchased the new Flowermate V5.0s after reading Floofenburger and Smirks's reports on it and the water adapter OneHighMofo mentioned, its a really good vape and the three temp settings are definitely an improvement on the on the original Flowermate V5.0.

Just as I was about to do a review and post my own experiences with the Flowermate V5.0s I spotted this.....

If you have a look at the website https://www.e-livi8.com/, you will find this diagram that shows why its better than the Flowermate, sealed airpath and airflow control.

Image

I really like the chrome finish and they were giving away 2 lines of free etching on the front or back of the unit. The water mouthpiece adapter purchased for the Flowermate fits the same on the E-LIVI8 unit too.

The plus points for me are the preset temps, the 1st 2 E-LIVI8 temp settings are lower than the Flowermate at 172c/340f and 185c/365f but the last setting is higher at 216c/420f. Flowermate V5.0s temps are 195c/385f, 205c/400f and 212c/415f, the first two settings are a bit on the high side for my liking.

The E-LIVI8 is a few quid more expensive than than the Flowermate V5.0s but the improvements make it a better vape imo. Full testing review to follow.

Yeah that variable air flow rate sounds like a worthy addition - after extended use, the flower mate air flow gets reduced due to oily build up in the proprietary screens. If my FLowermate broke - I'd deffo replace it with one of these E-LIVI8 units on that basis alone.

Had a go on a friends Stors and Bickel 'mighty' at the weekend - wasn't as impressed with the draw as I was hoping to be. Not sure the extra price tag is justifiable (for me). That grinder/loader is a nice touch though.

You *should* be able to clean those pretty well by soaking them in alcohol. I know the unit I bought came with several replacement screens. The different temp settings do sound nicer than the Flowermate. I was looking for something that did 180 or thereabouts but the V5S didn't go that low. Still a great device, though. I ended up buying a second unit for a friend. Even came with some free lavender for "aromatherapy" purposes  .

I'm curious to see whether it's actually a different unit and not just a rebranded clone as so many Chinese devices tend to be. It certainly looks identical and that sort of blatant copying sort of irks me.

Both the Flowermate and E-LIVI8 are manufactured in China. Red Eye UK have the patent for the E-LIVI8.

There are various of agreed rebrands of the Flowermate being sold by Everyonedoesit, Azarius, Grasscity, Vapo Shop, Zamnesia etc under brands such as black leaf etc, however most of these are the Flowermate V5.0 and not the V5.0s which has the 3 temperature controls.

The diagram above shows that the technology is different but I will confirm this once I have both units in hand so to speak. Another advantage with the E-LIVI8 is that you have to register your unit for the warranty to be effective, avoids counterfeits this way too.

I think this is the same with Flowermate. At least I know there is a code you enter on the side of the box which gives you back a code which you can verify, guaranteeing it's legit. I hope you're right that it's indeed different tech, but frankly, E-LIVI8 did copy the exact look and feel of the thing (apart from color, perhaps), which is low. They may have a patent for the internal workings, but it's still a dick move. The folks who made the Flowermate worked hard to make it and these guys at e-livi8 just ripped that off. They may claim to have a patent but even if that's true, it's not valid if they're copying what somebody else has already done even it wasn't patented before. I would agree that when Apple sues Samsung over patented "rounded corners", that's ridiculous, but looking at the two devices from the outside in this case, they're virtually identical. For that reason alone, i'd avoid buying it. Besides. The v8 just came out from the same folks with a digital display and variable temp (as in any arbitrary temp you want).

Flowermate V8 looks very good, the multi temp feature I like on my other vapes.

Just ordered one as its on offer and within price range, the only thing I can't see on the V8 is how the mouthpiece fits, this looks like a slide in glass tube. The Flowermate V5 and the E-LIVI8 have the screw in mouthpieces which I use the water adapter with.

I personally don't get too hung up on copycat design, especially if it improves on the original. A patent is often just a blueprint for improvement. Cheap nasty knock off's are another thing.

E-LIVI8 and Flowermate V8 reviews to follow.

I found this review for the Flowermate V5.0s - partly extreme, somewhat comical and possibly on the absurd side.

I bought my Flowermate v5os from ebay for under £60 and free delivery which took 2 days. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vaporizer-Flo ... 2c9a05dda5 I see Vapefiend are are knocking them out for £99 https://www.vapefiend.co.uk/index.php?_a=basket so you have to shop around, not difficult with the internet :D.
I dont know wether the Alivi8 is a better machine, it has the same battery as the flowermate and just looks to be a knock-off. At £120.

I think the Flowermate is the best value for money machine I've had in my hands so far, as I've worn out 3 or 4 Iolites a couple of Wisprs and a davinci ascent. All over the £100. 8)
What a long strange trip it is.

That's very cheap for a genuine article. Make sure you verify it's genuine. There is a sticker on the side of the box. You go to a url at the flowermate site, you enter the number on the sticker, and you're given a number back. If it matches the code (second number) you scratch off on the bottom part of the sticker, it's genuine. Otherwise... i would send it back. I'm unsure of what the URL is, but you can ask Gapie to look on the side of the box for the one I gave him. The one I bought for a friend here is already in wrapping paper. Make sure the URL matches, though the numbers will all be different.

No problem, thanks, I scanned the code thingy with my phone and the numbers matched. Theres a scratch off bit which reveals the number too. I'm very happy with it as a handy pocket vape. I've got used to the 5 min go to standby, but that probably accounts for getting good mileage from a full battery.

£60 is probably still giving a good profit, they just think of a price their reputation among potheads will let them get away with. Breadhead bastards

I'm still researching the patents, oddly and slightly contradictory but it appears that both the Flowermate and E-LIVI8 are manufactured by the Shenzen Corp in China.

Will update once I get some responses to my emails.
