Well the haze seems to have about lifted and so i'll try to summarise my trip as best as i can......

day1
Right then here we go off to amsterdam for the the first time in a long while so lets do it proper; pub at noon with a couple of cheeky smokes stashed in the old pocket. After a heavy quota of booze, pool and weed fell onto the bus about half four for the airport. On our way!! After the usual bout of cueing and sitting eventually found myself in schipol airport heading for the station, train and taxi later arrived at the hotel. Ibis stopera on Valkenburgerstraat, quite cheap (due to the third night free offer), clean, smoker friendly (or at least tolerant) and the best shower in all the land! Sorry i digress, had arranged to meet some friends in the bluebird made this our first port of call. Managed to squeeze on a table and tune in to the prodigy a thon on the stereo! Picked up some jack herrer and silver pearl 12.50 for 1.8g and 1.5g respectively. the pearl turned out to be the favourite of the trip heavy and funny smoke! Set about nailing most of the purchase before chipping back to the digs.

Day 2
Up bright and early for a wander into town, meandered through chinatown and into the back of the rld. The elder statesman of the group (and the only non smoker) recommended hill street blues. an ominous shop covered in graffiti with predictably english rock blaring out, ignoring the bar made my way to the budtender. Asked about their hash he recommended his lebonese 6E/g lovely layered soft brown hash, rich and creamy wish i'd grabbed more than 2g :( also grabbed a gram of white widow 7Eg (i think) which was ok not especially strong for WW. Had a couple of smokes and went to suzies saloon next door to ricks cafe for a beer. Another one of the old mans suggestions, it looks and sounds like any other rld bars catering for the lager crowd, however it turned out to be a fantastic venue; nice crowd, very smoker friendly and a good place for any party not all about the smoke. Off again and bumped into some of the rest of the party so we split and made our way to nes cafe. I love this place top tunes, best pool table in the dam, grabbed the big table at the back and a gram of the trip haze (8.50Eg)

ooops had a bit of a senior moment there!!!

ok, the trip haze was a very nice smoke very buzzy and heady perfect but i still was able to win a few frames until some of the regulars pasted me!!!
stumbled out into rld so some of the group could find some shrooms, they decided on some philosophers stones, went to baba to wolf em down with a joint or two, by all accounts they were pretty tame nothing more than a slight buzz off half a pack each!? quick steak later we found ourselves back at the hotel. wandreing back to town fell into coffee shop reefer next door to bluebird, quite little shop which is ok for a quick smoke (tried some of their ak47 the next day which was pretty good) if bluebird is full, which it seemed to be fairly often. Went for the mandatory stroll down filth alley (not my cup of tea but its gotta be done just for the sheer bonkersness of it all!! )
couple of us swung off and headed across town to betty boop, i really like this shop, its usually very quiet but they stock some lovely weed, scored some blueberry 1.8g/ 10E which was fruity and light and quiet delightful. met up with the rest of the group and smoked and drank our way back to the hotel. Crashed out for the night after a late night pizza mission a very happy camper.

Day 3
Right time for a trip, grabbed some columbian shrooms, stopped at reefer for a decidely grim tasting mushroom breakfast and a fat blunt (personally i find that doing shrooms first thing with a good hefty blunt/ bong is the way to go, empty stomach and the high gives way to the trip in a most agreeable way :D ) felt the first wave coming so we headed for the zoo. Artis is a old style concrete city zoo, not the quite as plush as i'm used to here in the uk and lots of the animals seemed a bit hacked off tbh. however the shrooms were going strong spent ages watches the herons circling overhead and some of the monkies pissing around. having industrial amounts of fun i turned a corner to see elephants mating oh dear not what i wanted to be seeing at this point in time!!! with a sense of impending doom a real dirty storm started to brew, as started to piss it down i ducked into the butterfly house still tripping massively, a combination of kids running about, stiffling heat, intense rain on the corragted roof and butterflies fluttering about me this made for a very heavy weird experience!! Thought at that point that peace and quiet was required so made for the buddhist garden for a smoke, my phone died and lost the rest of the tripees so in my state of confusion bailed for the hotel. Eyes like saucers sat in frnt of the rugby and scoffed the remainders of the lebanese, yum yum! and watched the office over the way try and eat me!!!
back into town for the england match, called in at ricks for some nepalese hash 7E/G, white rhino and eldeweis (8E/g) the nepalese looked the part cut from a ball with a knife however didn't do it for me personally (nneither did the WR) the eldewiess was a different matter though pungent tasting and very heady made watching the irish crush sorry england a little better!! Beers and smokes later dropped into the bluebird for last orders and grabbed some sage n sour diesel, this was all he had at the end of a busy night and i know why, rubbish.

Day 4
Off to the plane at 2 so grabbed breakfast skinned up an uber spliff with about an eighth in it to polish off most of the weed and to soften the blow of more endless ques!! Although i didn't bother risking a smuggling operation some of the others did with no problems whatsoever, pay your pound take your chance i guess, time to rotate back to the world......

This isn't an exhaustive report as regards tackle and shops sampled as it seems to have already run into tolkeinesque proprtions thought i'd cut it short and enter more details in the appropriate place!!

its a term i've heard banded around to describe some of the narrower, seedier alleys where the the ladies of the night ply their trade, worth a look (literally) but i'm not its biggest fan. One of em tried pulling me into their den of inequity, it must look i'm not getting any!!!

I'm booked in there for my April trip - is it a decent enough hotel?

Nice report btw!

yes mate the stopera is fine, its ibis which is a huge chain so pretty devoid of character. Its around a 10min walk to the city centre and five mins to the nearest coffee shops (bluebird and reefer). Six seater taxi cost 7euro from the station which is better than humping bags around imo. The bars quite steep, but has a pool table (which is also quite expensive 2E a game), plus side all the rooms have a safe and the showers are immense! hope this is of some help. :)

Bloody great report sirphobose, thank you.

Space Boy, just to echo what has been said, I've stayed in the Ibis Stopera a number of times and it's good. Nice and clean, good size rooms, you can't go wrong really, about 10 mins walk from Dam Square and the nearby Bluebird CS is v good. Hotel seems to be smoker friendly, or at least they turn a blind eye. Have fun on your trip.

the buddhist garden referred to ealier is actually officially labelled "japenese stone garden" however as the centre piece is a 8 foot stone buddha hence my mangled mind redesignated it thus. The zoo's crammed in a couple of these hideaways, full of sculpture by famous artists apparently, which gave an oppurtunity for a crafty joint away from families with kids. Even in a country with such forward thinking attitudes to drugs i still think that smoking out of the way of the young ones is a necessary politeness :) (a couple of the party didin't smoke at all for the very same reason).
