Trip Log - March 28 - April 5th

Post by floofenburger »

March 28:

Got up 2 hours earlier than normal to arrive at the train station scatterbrained, and we hadn't even reached Amsterdam yet. So the train was two hours late, so we went directly to the hotel from Amsterdam Central station, missing Voyagers on the way. Hope to go back there soon to get some Tangie. After checking in, headed directly to Katsu. Bought two bags of Grinspoon, one of Grinspoon Ice, and 2g of Jamaican for my husband to try.

The Jamaican is what you'd expect. Compressed brick weed. Didn't try smoking it yet. Tried the Grinspoon in a new pipe I've had for while that I brought with me. The taste wasn't that great -- a little sour. Could have been the new pipe, however. It smelled fantastic in the bag, however. Pine, woody, and sweet is the best way I can describe it.

Headed out the door at that point, and it was off to Azarius to buy the Flowermate Vapormax V5S. haven't tried that yet, but I did charge it last night so it's good to go. Then I had the most wonderfully delightful adventure trying to get home as Google Maps cache failed on my phone and with no data connection I had no way to get maps back. To make a long story short, I got lost. 17000 steps later according to my phone, and I made it back to the hotel after finding the Vodafone store closed. We're gonna try that again today.

I had fun. as for the Grinspoon's high. I rate it maybe a 8. It's definitely an intellectual smoke, but lacks a giggly, silly edge. Also the comedown was not as smooth as I was expecting based on the strain's reputation. I felt tired and maybe a bit scatterbrained, although I think a lot of that was just me being exhausted after getting up so early and walking around. I'm going to try it again a vaporizer and see how it goes.

I took pictures of the Grinspoon and will be posting that as soon as I get back. I'm about to head out to the Vodafone store, and then Katsu. See y'all there if you're coming at 3pm.

As promised, here is a photo of Katsu's Dr. Grinspoon:
Image
You probably can't see it clearly in this phone camera photo, but the trichromes are abundant and somewhere between clear and milky white in color. Not a hint of amber. I tried taking a photo through my loupe but it didn't turn out so well.

March 29:

So I got to Katsu and met up with Gapie, who was there, and had a great time talking and smoking with him. This time, I wanted something a little less "intellectual" than Grinspoon, so I asked the budtender and ended up buying some Mango Haze, which came highly recommended here as well. Loved the strain.

I give it a 9/10. Favorite smoke of the trip so far. Very close to the Grinspoon in terms of smell, with a hint of mango / tropical notes. Tasted great in the vaporizer, and not a hint of fatigue or couchlock. Very giggly, funny, strain. Creative, energetic. Not a hint of anxiety / paranoia (not that I'm prone to that, other than with diesels for some reason) And something that I was hoping for from the Grinspoon: a very graceful comedown. Not a hint of fatigue or confusion.

Keep in mind, however, I did have a wee bit of Gapie's amnesia just after, so I can't say i judged the Mango Haze purely on it's own. Also, I slept much better the night before, so the comedown I felt with the Grinspoon the day before could have easily just been normal fatigue. More testing is necessary :D .

Before bed I tried some of the Jamaican. Was not impressed, but I wasn't expecting to be. Felt slow and stupid. Slept well, however.

Glad you liked the Mango... Was a standout smoke (top 3) for me last week. If you are back in that general area over your trip then the Girl Scout Cookies at De Graal (just round the corner) was a lovely smoke as well

March 30th - Part 1

Went to voyagers this morning. They were out of the Tangie I wanted to try, but they had a Banana Tangie. Also go the Kosher Kush. Tried it in my vaporizer immediately. Smells fantastic, just as the name suggests. As far as the high goes, it wasn't as clear as the Mango Haze from Katsu, but I didn't trip over my tongue or anything like that. Nothing stood out as particularly good or bad. 7/10.

Later I tried some of the Dr. Grinspoon mixed with Mango Haze in the vape. Not sure how I felt about the high. It was clear but it wasn't as fun as the Mango Haze on it's own, which was giggly and made everything far more interesting while retaining mental clarity. Still feeling it, though. AT least one of those is long lasting. Back at Katsu, I got another small portion of Mango Haze and some Big Buddha Cheese, I think it was. I want to try something as a sleep aid tonight and the budtender recommended It. She unfortunately didn't have Flowerbomb Kush in the ~1g amount I was looking for. I already have enough smoke for the rest of the week

Not a huge Kush fan, but when you're having trouble sleeping for over a month, it'll hit the spot. Gonna try that BBC tonight (if you know what BBC outside of this context, please keep your comments to yourself  ). Also might try the Kosher Kush. I'll post a report of that and all the pictures tomorrow. I also got pictures of Katsu's menu. I did forget to get one at Voyagers (sorry Gapie), but my dog was with me and really wanted to get back to his walk. Maybe on my way back home, i'll get it.

Nice reporting - an enjoyable read :) that Grinspoon looks better than the example I bought in Barney's. Frostier. Just as scraggly but it looks a lot fresher too.

How did hubby get on with the Jamaican?

Thanks for asking, and for the compliment. We haven't tried it yet and honestly i'm not that sure about it. It's so drowsy / stupid that he may hate it just as much as a whitey and i'm afraid he'll never try it again after that. He doesn't like feeling "out of control" and a strain that makes you feel drowsy might not be the best thing. I told him If he didn't like it, i'd never poke him to try again. I'm not sure what to do. The Mango Haze I tried didn't make me even slightly anxious, but people differ. Perhaps a blend. I'll experiment to find something i feel is "safe" and still fun -- no couchlock, but not too heady either. I'm gonna sample the Kushes tonight and see what I feel about those (not for him to smoke pure, that's for sure). I think i'm gonna trust my own judgement on this, and when we're ready to try, we'll go real slow and have a nice safe setting that he finds comfortable (the hotel room). We'll vape outside and come right back in once he feels anything as we're not allowed to vape indoors (and he insists). He's a stickler for rules. I'm not, but.. In any case we'll be back inside the hotel room quickly and he'll be fine.
