I'll be there 27th-30th April

Post by Jeemer »

We managed to get an apartment booked, it's out near the Rembrandt park so it's not that central, but it looks like a nice place. I'll be there with my brother and two friends, if you're looking for us we're all scottish, and we'll be with my greek mate, who looks greek, but speaks english with a scottish accent, and my mate from LA.

Our plans are for a chilled day visiting coffeeshops after arrival on the 27th, hopefully get to Katsu at last and I need a mocha milkshake from Amnesia asap. I'll probably pop round to Grey Area at some point to avoid catching it on some random day when it's closed, and then we've got tickets for Joanna Newsom at the Paradiso that evening. After that it's possibly back to a coffeeshop or food and then back to the apartment.

On the Saturday it's looking like a long overdue daytime trip to Haarlem is in order, for some temple ball. I want to visit the Willie Wortel shops, I'd messaged Nol last time I was over about visiting, but we had a few first timers who were sleeping in and had to be coaxed to leave the apartment nevermind the city. I want to check out W&A if possible late afternoon/early evening and then head back to central Amsterdam for the rest of the night.

Sunday I'm hoping to have some mushrooms and visit the Vondelpark, depending on weather and how I'm feeling on that particular day. Maybe visit a museum or two as well. Should I visit that temporary modern museum somewhere near centraal station? I dunno if it's even still there, my brother went to it a couple of years back now.

Monday we leave, but we don't need to be at the airport till about 7 or 8pm so we'll probably check our luggage in lockers at centraal and head back into town.

Aside from Katsu (I'm thinking crystal clear and sage), Amnesia (Laughing Buddha, Amnesia Haze.. do they ever have mk ultra anymore?), Grey Area (i love the crystals, was going to try my luck for the MMG, c13, anything really! they were also out of golden soles last time i visited iirc) and the Willie Wortel shops, we'll end up in some others.

I love NYCD from dampkring, but I might check out tweede kamer instead. Paradox for Ace, Stix for several reasons including temple ball, Kashmir Lounge for ambience and smoke and Old Church (for the view) have been recommended to me. De Kuil is an old favourite that others may want to pop into. I also thought about popping to siberie or route 66 to wave to people at home on the webcam :D .. I know that's a pretty healthy list for 4 days, to say the least, but you never know, I might end popping in to look for some Blue Cheese or Ummagumma too.. I suppose we'll end up going wherever the wind takes us. My brother is a bigger hash fan so he'll be doing the circuit on that. I'm mostly just loving nice zingy sativas of late.

I'm really looking forward to going back after what seems like ages (18 months give or take) I compiled my own guide to amsterdam using sites online for reference after I came back from my first trip, it was built as a website but lost in a drive crash :( but I feel that in doing that I learnt a lot about amsterdam (I've only been twice)

I'm going to make sure I take lots of pictures this time though. Make SURE of it! I never remembered to pull it out when i was outside (the camera, easy now) and I don't like pulling out a camera in a coffeeshop in case someone objects to it, so outside of the apartment about 6 photos were taken!

Anyways maybe I'll see some of you guys around. I plan to post a trip report on my return, but everyone says that and half of them just get nicely toasted and forget.

Oh yeah, of course. Queens day is the 30th. Not even in amsterdam yet and i'm suffering from short term memory loss.

My brother's mate is staying on a houseboat which is reasonably central, so we were planning on going round there at some point earlier in the day to observe the festivities. I just want a general wander around to see what's going on, my brother and his mate have been on Queens day but I haven't.

When will the celebrations start for Queens Day? I was reading somewhere that it would begin on the friday, is that an exaggeration?

Also; We liked cocos outback, the ribs were decent and we got put in a cosy alcove where we could smoke. Any other suggestions for places to eat? They don't have to allow smoking.

I might try FEBO. Yes I said it. But to be honest I don't remember ever noticing one.. Some might say that's a good thing.

We were going to go on the supperclub cruise (went the last two times) but it's only operating on the monday night :(

I think that's it.

Golden Soles from GA is well worth investing in, a quality smoke. Don't be put off by the appearence or refusal to crumble, it kicks ass. I found a bit in my bag when I got home last time, smoked it in buckets and was tripping off me face.

Enjoy.

You have to start with a plan. It will get shot to hell from time to time, but you have to start with a plan.

Where is this Coco's Outback, with the ribs and the smoking alcove, praytell?

Here you go...

How to find the Coco's Outback
You can find the Coco's on the Thorbeckeplein, that's near the Rembrandtsplein.
To help you there is a simple map of the centre of Amsterdam down here.
From central station, you can take Tram:
Tram: 4, 9 and 25 to Rembrandtsplein.
