January 2016

Post by hulldj »

Spent the Sunday washing, ironing , packing and unpacking. I was only taking a very small rucksack on this trip I received for Christmas from my Auntie. It was the perfect size... so long as I could fit everything in. Gloves, hat, sunglasses, underwear, deodorant, hair gel etc. I had my little man purse for lighters, papers, roaches and my trusty rolling mat.

Lunch time came and it was cooking time. The biggest question I had to answer was .... How Much?

Image

I decided on about 50g.

Image

The crispy edge was cut off and consumed and the rest let cool, cut into 4 and bagged up to eat after parking the car. Edibles sorted.

Soon it was pick-up time, the crispy edges had floated in nicely.

This birthday trip was with three friends, S (female), T and L both male. S is L's partner so you can quash them thoughts :). Unfortunately due to work commitments wifey was unable to join us.

Arrival at the terminal was traffic free, Brownies consumed and we are through security and on the ferry by about 18:30. It is at this point that I realise that my hat, gloves and small rolling mat are still on the settee at home. Oh well, L came up trumps with a spare hat, gloves will be purchased. My big rolling mat will suffice. Luckily I packed some of those huge rolling papers and had packed my big mat a week ago ready for the big skins.

By 20:30 and a pint of Stella the Brownies have kicked in and comments are made on how strong they are. Job done. :) Two hotdogs and a cheese ploughmans sort out the munchies.

Next thing I know I am being woken up by T with a coffee and panini. It's 07:30!! Everyone crashed before I think the boat had set sail. Fantastic nights sleep. Excellent... more money for weed.

Its a glorious morning. Cold, but, well, look at it....

Image

Our plans were to go on the Rotterdam Bus from the Europort, find a coffeeshop, then take the Rotterdam Central to Amsterdam Central train.

20 mins and we are off the bus at Rotterdam Central. This is T's idea so he was in charge of the coffeeshop search. Wearing his Apple Watch and some iPhone hocus pocus he managed to get us here, which was closed on our first pass by. I am an Android fan but the iWatch and iPhone worked very well I am sad to admit.

Image

Not to be defeated Apple took us here, which was open.

Image

Small menu, only the front was open with no seating but through the rear door is a large seated area with a pool table, not sure if it opens later but did not look like it had been used in a while. The toilet was through this closed area. Facilities were clean, We were all busting by this time.

Purchased some White Widdow for 10 Euro. The 2 budtenders working were polite and seemed to be happy. They had no problems with us taking this.

Image

By 10:10 we each had a couple of rolls made for the walk and one lit. WW did the job nicely and I was enjoying the walk back to the train. I bought another bag of the WW before we left.

Think it was about 10:20 as we passed by the first shop we saw, It was now open.

Chonged through our rolls as we walked and worked out how to get the train. I had my ChipKaarrt thing, topped up 20 euro at the service counter whilst the others bought tickets.

The journey was about an hour, just over half of this we managed to sit all nice and cosy in first class. All cosy until T lost his bottle and got us all to move seats before 2nd class filled up with passengers at Schipol.

I can live with 20 minutes, I'm still stoked off the WW. Next stop.. AMSTERDAM!!

I see it written in trip reports on a regular basis but it is true.

That awesome feeling as you walk off the train, the mass of bodies trying to get to that escalator off the platform, the clutching of your possessions as the mass of bodies turns into single file and order is restorerd as you go down. The short walk out of Central Station, the smells, the noise, the anticipation, the knowledge that your feet are gonna hurt.

The time being just after 12:00, We head left towards Nemo to see where we are living for the next few days. We were being handed keys at 12... we are running a little late and busting for the loo.

Our home from home... but no one there to meet us . :(

Image

Image

Looks like a boat... With a flag... and a locked gate.

Airbnb - have we been scammed? Phone goes straight to answer machine?

Ok.. so we make a smoke, chill and ten minutes later T receives a call to say that the guy with the key will be with us real soon. Sorry for missing the call.

Woop woop, panic is over but we are still busting for the loo.. All is not lost as out of no where Seb the key bringer arrives.

This little boat with a flag turns out to be the Tardis in disguise. It is HUGE and probably one of the coolest places I have stayed. Xbox one, PS3, Massive Smart TV with Netflix. Surround for the TV and separate speaker system with iPod input that sounds beaut. Philips Hue mood lighting, Wifi and a full kitchen with Smeg fridge. Huge corner sofa, two double beds, washing machine and dryer, wet room. oh, and there is a toilet... everyone is sorted.. :).. It will definitely do the job for 45 euro each per night.

Internet was fast enough.

Time for our smoking adventures to begin.

Made a couple of joints for the walk and we are set.

Stroll down Warmoesstraat and everywhere is now closed or selling booze. So sad to think I spent many a night strolling through these parts enjoying the smells of weed and alcohol, the hustle and bustle of the crowds. It just seemed lifeless. Stopped to chat to a member of staff outside Route 66. She said it is all due to a one coffeeshop per postcode rule and the nearest coffeeshop was Babylon on Beursstraat. So off we pop to Babylon.

The bud counter is right near the door and it was busy. There was a group of about 8 trying to get served and were hustling and bustling around in such a small area. We shuffled in to find we were in the middle of some heated debated between the two guys working and thi group. They handled it well. It was to do with an ID issue. One girl had tried to pass her ID to another and were refused service. I spent 25 euro in here on some Bubblegum for 10 euro and a Kush for 15.

Shopping time. Quick stop at AH Dam Sq and 4 bags full of grub later we are ready to stock up on more weed after a stop off to get some gloves. Did I tell you it was cold?

Next stop was Voyagers

Girl Scout Cookies at 15 euro and a pure sativa pre roll for the walk back home.

6pm ish. It was time to chill for a few hours, smoke up what we had and make some well needed food.

Plans are made to go out in a couple of hours.

Great start hulldj, and a belated happy birthday. You are a star for helping Lemming get the forum back and up and running properly.

I've looked at some of those houseboats on AirBnB, and wondered how cold they would be in winter. Seems like it worked well for you and yours though.

Thank you, HullDJ! I remember you mentioned your trip in a post while helping someone regarding Rotterdam a few weeks ago but I forgot about giving you guys directions, sorry guys! Nice to see you found something :D . I only could have helped with directions to good hash anyway but on the other hand there isn't outstanding grass to be found in Rotterdam. So you didn't miss anything. At least it's more or less reasonably priced and ok enough.
Indeed, most places in Rotterdam are take-away-only. If only halt in between I would have suggested Sensi Smile qualitywise as it opens from 9AM in the morning and you can smoke there(if only in a tiny glass cage   ), also near the station(you guys barely missed it!). I think their weed is good enough too!
But there will always be next time, right  ?! I listed some coffeeshops there some time ago: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=24791

Your accomodation is looking good indeed!

By the way your location and saying you guys came by ferry confused me quite a bit but then I realised you must be living in Europe  (No need for giving your location but coming by ferry respectively boat from North America would be so cool though :) !). Since I'm a big fan of edibles and well experienced too I thought 50g of gear for a cake shared between would be a bit too much even for me . Also realised then you're talking about canna butter(by the way I would guess from weed not hash, right?)which I'm often too lazy for(mostly go for yogurts with hashish but when I go travelling or on holiday I always go for cakes as they're so convenient when it comes to customs and no need to buy from seedy arseholes on the street in a foreign country   ! Personally I don't do edibles due to tolerance issues if I go to the Netherlands though! ).Would be interesting to know how much gear you use for your butter. I mostly go for 1-2 ounces grass/hash per stick.

Howsoever, keep it coming!

Great report hulldj! I get the ferry from Hull (P&O) most of the time and it definitely adds to the experience. The 1 and half hour coach from Europoort to Dam is a bit of a ballache mind. Might do what you did next time and get the train from Rotterdam.

Can you name the place you stayed? It looks awesome, I'd like to check it out myself!

Cheers

Thanks reading and the positive comments.

Onehighmofo & Mr Incognito

The house boat was definitely warm enough for us most of the time. Early morning it was a little chilly at one point but it was -3 outside. But what better place to spend a birthday.

Jesscass,

The Rotterdam diversion of the trip was entirely T's responsibility. So not a problem and like I mentioned, Apple sorted us out. :) Always a next time now we know it is so easy to find places close to the station.

We are all from the UK and the P&O ferry terminal thing is not far.

Regarding the edibles, the butter was made using trim, no buds, just the stuff a pal would have thrown away. I took a chance of the near 50g because the last batch I made using half that only gave a mediocre buzz.. The only one I was a little worried about was T, he can be a little bit of a lightweight at times, but even he commented that they were just about right for him. Quantity of the trim varies from batch to batch.. a cup or two of water, 2 sticks of butter into the slowcooker. melt butter in the water and top up with a little more water, add trim till I feel there is enough, slow cook till I get bored or the house really stinks, 2-4 hours. cheesecloth, fridge, separate water from cannabutter, gently re-melt with a little water, fridge, separate out the water, place into margarine tub or two and freeze, use as required.

ic0nic

The bus to Rotterdam and train to Amsterdam seemed a much more civilised affair or was it the fact that we were in a coffeeshop about 30 mins after leaving the ferry...?

It was called Jaaps houseboat.

https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/8532903? ... d=22175679

As for the hosting . How else am I going to get my ACD fix if its not there anymore. :)

On with the story...

T got onto cooking in a frying pan some toasted cheese sandwiches. I've not tried these cooked this way and wow, they were awesome.

Myself and L gathered our rolling gear and proceeded to roll what we had until we ran out. We were like rolling machine robots. Unfortunately L has a habit of rolling then lighting instead of sticking to the plan of rolling a few for a walkabout later.

We spent a few hours smoking, watching Family Guy on Netflix on the houseboat and listening to random music on the in house sound system. It goes proper loud :).

Our purchases are starting to get a little bit much and low so we decided on a little trek to Rookies. I've said it in many a trip report and I will say it again, I like Rookies, the staff are always welcoming, the coffee and hot chocolates are spot on, The music is random and sometimes quite trippy. The smoking area is massive and you can nearly always get a seat.

On the way we decided to stop at KFC as S & L were feeling peckish. This is where T has the first and only whitey of the trip, bless him, He walks in, seems to jump the Q straight to a till and starts to order, turns round looking a little pale and tells me that he has a pain in his side and looks like he is starting to panic a little. I tell him to go find a seat near the door and I'll get the tray of food and bring it over. We all get seated and I can see him swaying and the blood draining from his face. Time to take him outside. Did I tell you it was cold? Slowly walking across Damrak to the concrete seats across from KFC we sit.. Well.... At what seems like -5 I get this shock from my man bits, jump up and nearly get hit by a bike... It really was cold and now I'm spending the next hour or so wondering if my balls have frozen off..

T recovers, has a little paddy that none of us called him an ambulance as he could have died from the pain he was experiencing.. This is laughed off and we head to the tram lines behind the Palace. Smoking a cheeky one on the walk.

My OV card thing has plenty on so I scan in and find a seat whilst they get a tram pass. Whatever we have smoked on the walk is nicely steaming in and the short tram ride was a pleasurable experience. Next stop Rookies. Another cheeky one for the walk down seems to stop a lot of the restaurant touters from hassling you. (quick tip)

We have full cooking facilities on the houseboat so I thought it time to grab some hash.

Super Maroc @ 12 euro for just over a gram. Coffee and a cake.

We sit and chill in here for a couple of hours, smoking whatever the other three had bought mixed with the hash and a couple of the pre rolls, drinking hot chocolates and coffee, also eating another cake..

Going to need some more hash for the buns as it is nearly all smoked here.. ooops..

L wanted to go to Barneys.

Cookie Kush and a coffee later I am just over 20 euro down. In my opinion the Cookies Kush is not worth the 18 euro, I think I was expecting more for the money. Looked nice, smelt nice, tasted nice... just nice.

Spent about half an hour in here before taking the trek back home. I still have a couple of pre rolls left for the walk/tram/walk.

Jump off the tram at Central Station and we all decide that we need a top up. Buy n Fly time.

De Kuil/420 - 1g NYC Diesel 15 euro/g
2g Blueberry 10 euro/g

Voyagers - 1g Blue Fromage 12 euro/g
1g Rugburn OG 14 euro/g
preroll of both indica and sativa for the walk to the boat. 12 euro I think

Chilled and smoked on the boat watching more family guy and listening to music on one of our phones.

Had a great day birthday and seemed to have packed plenty in, walked many miles and got comfortably stoned.

The stand outs for the day from my stash were Voyagers Blue Fromage and De Kuil NYC Diesel the smell and taste of both literally made your mouth water.

I dozed off on the sofa whilst T fell asleep on the massive bean bag... unsure and uncaring of time.

Tuesday was mostly spent smoking our stash, eating and drinking coffee at the boat until late afternoon.

More to come ..................

Nice trip report, hulldj. I usually traveled solo, but, someday, would like to show friends around A'dam in a smoky haze. I have stayed in a hotels twice, and twice with my friend/host who lived at the back door of Concertgebouw. The idea of staying on a houseboat sounds great (and I would love to check it off my 'bucket list.') Cheers!
I may be stoned, but don't take me for granite...

Thanks for all the nice comments. I got round to finishing this chapter just in time for 420.

Finally we all decided it was time for a walk... it's a lovely but cold day outside. T wants to go get his foot massage at a little place on Dam Square and myself and L needed a smoke top up. S just wanted to smoke some more then go shopping for a stupidly expensive purse/bag/shoes/hat.... bless her.

Off we set, heading to the Square, we leave T getting his foot massage and head over Paradox way for some edibles.

I bought 4 of Paradox chocolate space cakes, 2 each for T and I, S&L got one or two each. Paradox was very busy and not enough seating for us 3 to squeeze in comfortably so we bought and walked.

Realising that the time was after 6pm I convinced S that we should think about a nice hot chocolate. Where are we to go? T will be finishing his massage soon, I sent him a Glympse via my mobile. For those who don't know. Glympse is an app for Android and ios that allows you to show your destination to another user on a live map. It probably does more but for this purpose it is ideal. Set it for an hour and T can track our movements to where ever we are without multiple texts/calls etc. https://www.glympse.com/

Citral and hot chocolate is on the cards so Utopia it is. There are a few people sat around but plenty of room for the three of us. Straight to the counter to be greeted by Ingi and a big smile.. gram of citral and a hot chocolate no squirty cream please. At which point I find out the secret to the fantastic hot chocolates made there. It's chocomel heated using the coffee machine milk steamer/frother... Wow. Thick, creamy, hot and perfect to warm up our cold bodies. We sat at the table next to the counter and rolled up our smoke. T Glympsed me and was walking in a different direction. This should be a fun game of cat n mouse.

We have just lit up and in walks Gapie, handshakes and man hugs with an introduction to L & S. After a quick catch up chat with Stan unfortunately we have to leave to locate T. I grab another couple of grams of the citral, two cakes for T & I, say our farewells and head out into the cold. In my last three trips

The citral was lovely to smoke in a joint, it had a typical hazy smell but with a lemony twist and it was quite pungent. Tasted as it smelt and was sparkling in trics.

Following my Glympse app we find T. The citral has started to give me a lovely warm heady buzz as we walk trying to circle the Damrak in search of T and his gps ping. We catch up nearing 420/De Kuil and pop in for some more supplies. 2 more gram of the NYCD for me and we head back home for a chilled evening of smoking and eating our purchases and watching Family Guy on Netflix.

The extra freedom of renting the houseboat over a hotel is evident this trip. Less time has been spent actually smoking in coffeeshops and walking around Amsterdam aimlessly stoned (Don't get me wrong I love wandering aimlessly) than chilling at the boat. Mostly a buy and fly couple of days. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would definitely do the Airbnb route when I am going next time with a group of 4 or more. It works out so cheap and you get so much for your money. I also think that due to the amount of edibles consumed this time the extra comfort to envelope yourself into them and enjoy some of the added floaty sensations on top of the weed we are chonging down made for a fantastic and sometimes slightly trippy time.

Wednesday is packup and go day but we don't have to check out of the boat until 3pm so have a nice morning cleaning, sorting rubbish and packing. S found the hoover and did her best after pure mixed weed wake and bake.

We have picked up 5g of hash and a cake mix so T gets on with some baking as L & I roll all the contents of the remaining baggies into various joints for our couple of hour walk round town until the bus picks us up for the ferry trip home. Which we soon find out late check out was offered for free.

At around 1ish T gets a call from the host asking if we mind if he pops in to grab some clothes as he has just got home but is going to his mums for a shower and tea as he has been away for work for a while. Jaap arrives and he is a really cool, laidback guy. After a chat and coffee he tells us he will be back at 4pm for the keys and we are more than welcome to check out then. This is perfect, no rush to get ready to leave and when we are ready we can get a quick smoke in at Voyagers before the couple of minutes walk to the bus.

Walking to the bus we eat our share each of the hash cake which set us up for a very pleasant bus and ferry journey home.

Time to start packing for 420....

See you there.

Great read! The houseboat looks a brilliant way to stay in Amsterdam and seems you had a really good trip :)

The NYC Diesel in 420 is a bit special isn't it?! It was of great quality last month too and hoping it will be the same in June. They had it in Flower Power but labelled as indica dominant :/ I knew we were visiting 420 after 6pm so just waited out for theirs and glad I did!
