Mid March in Amsterdam

Post by bungle4 »

I spent a few days in Amsterdam last week, staying at Hotel My Home along Haarlemmerstraat. Staying with two friends in a 3 person room I was impressed with what we got for the price. You can't expect much for 30E pppn but although the hotel was basic it was clean, safe, in a great location and very smoker firendly (smoking in lounge and rooms ok, bongs/pipes/papers to use, free pool, internet and a tasty free breakfast).

It was about 100 yards along from Pink floyd so naturally it was our first stop after grinder/papers etc shopping.

Pink Floyd - 1g Mothers Finest
Hadn't been to PF on my last two visits and immediately regretted it. Great shop, we had the top floor to ourselves so we took up residence on the sofas overlooking Haarlemmerstraat. Good first smoke of the trip, not too strong and a nice uplifting high.

Greenhouse Centrum - 1g Super Silver Haze
Went for a walk around the Centrum and RLD then found ourselves in GH. Heard so much about SSH and wasn't dissapointed. A much stronger high gave a great buzz for a while then mellowed nicely.

SSH - http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/1596/dsc00351gq7.jpg

Siberie -
Finished off the SSH, Nice open plan shop with plenty of seats and a few tables for bigger groups. A great selection of teas although i stuck with my staple smoking diet of hot chocolate.

We then headed (on foot) to the Rijksmuseum, like the VG museum it hasn't got the biggest collection but impressive nonetheless.

Grey Area - 1g kushage
Predictably was just a grab and go as the only table was taken. Didn't have any Chocoloupe at the time so went for the kushage. The kushage looked a very unnatural, almost luminous, green colour. Although it smelt good and smoked well so I can't complain.

Route 66 -
Can't remember too much about the shop be honest, probably something to do with the kushage knocking my socks off. I wouldn't describe it as couchlock but I was pretty stoned and not wanting to go anywhere for a while.

Rokerij (Singel)- 1g Laughing Buddha
Been one of my favourite shops since my first visit, a good menu, friendly staff, a nice atmosphere and sometimes the chance to sit out front and watch over the Singel. The buddha was a great smoke, took a while to take effect but was a very strong cerebral buzz when it did.

We then headed back to the hotel to get ourselves sorted for the evening. It's amazing what a cold shower and half an hour without a spliff can do!

We then headed back towards the Damrak, stopping for delicious pizza at a surprisingly non-touristy italian restaurant along Warmdestraat.
We then we went for a drink at Stone's Cafe to watch the end of the football that evening.

De Kuil/420 - 1g Maroc Caramello, 1g Maroc Red
Decided to go for some hashes for the evening, first off was the Caramello, tasted so smooth and gave a strong body buzz. We were sat at a small table at the far end of the bar and a group of dutch friends came in telling their foreign visitors this was 'real amsterdam'. They took the big table next to us and took great interest in watching what we were up. A few eyebrows were raised when I returned from the bar with my first try of a volcano vaporiser. Although I still prefer smoking spliffs I enjoyed the vapo and the buddha was top notch again.

Caramello - http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/4256/dsc00375ce0.jpg

My first Vapo filling up - http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/6020/dsc00353yy3.jpg

Time to head back to HQ for the night and we took a wander home via the RLD which is always an interesting experience.

Back at the hotel we smoked the Maroc Red, another smooth smoke but not on par with the caramello in my eyes. Off to bed and ready for much of the same tomorrow....

March Trip - Day 2

Post by bungle4 »

Woke up to a nice free breakfast at the hotel of scambled eggs, cheese and toast. We headed into the centrum after breakfast, stopping off in pink floyd for another 1g of Mothers Finest.

Old Church
I'd seen Old Church before but been put off by the neon lights and look of the outside so had never ventured in. After hearing about the smoking spot at the upstairs windows we gave it a go. Got our drinks and found the upstairs empty so got a window table and opened the windows wide. A nice spring day, people watching in the RLD with a joint of Mother's Finest....day 2 had started well.

The view from Old Church - http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/7219/dsc00358bc4.jpg

We took a walk down to the Van Gogh museum, as good as my first visit there, amazing how much you can miss first time. We stopped for lunch and a beer in the Leidseplein then went towards Dam Square.

Abraxas - Space Shake
Loved the hash milkshakes last time, nice again but they don't put the hash in the blender now, just give you it to mix in which is half as effective.

Twede Kamer - 1g NYC Diesel
Although I liked the vibe in 2e we didn't stay as it was quite busy, seemed to be an older, more proffessional crowd than most of the CS's, still friendly though.

De Kuil/420 - 1g Nevill's Haze
One of my highlights; Spent a few hours in here trying some European beers and the Diesel and Nevilles Haze. I've had NYC Diesel before but never with such a great taste. Probably the tastiest weed I've ever smoked, nice effect but the tast alone made it great for me. I'd heard good things about the Nevill's Haze and wasn't dissapointed, gave a great hazy high, both made sure I was laughing all the way back to the hotel.

All got sorted for the evening again and ventured out in search of food, ended up in a steak house which was dissappointing all round; poor food, poor service - not to be revisited.

Kadinsky
Tiny coffeeshop that we visited to watch some football, stayed for an hour and finished the nevills haze. One young lad next to us stumbled out the shop and the bartender was having a joke to his friend about the state he was in....he was going to sleep well that night!

Rokerij - 1g Rokerij Haze
A nice smooth, not too strong sativa in the familiar comfortable surroundings of Rokerij Singel.

Another great day in the dam, already starting to think about booking my next trip....day 3 to follow

Day 3

Post by bungle4 »

Our last full day in the dam and it was time to step it up, there were still plenty of CS's to visit and plenty of strains to try, no museums for us today!

Amnesia - 1g Honey Bee
Never been before but a great little CS. Set on one floor it has about 10 tables of various sizes, nice decor and run by two friendly women. Smoked the Honey Bee whilst playing a game of chess (loads of games available to use there, backgammon, chess etc) and looking out onto the Herengracht. Honey Bee was a nice giving a sweet tasting strong sativa high.

Katsu - 1g Citral
I had planned on trying my first ice in the Crystal Clear but they didn't have any in so we opted for 1g of Citral. Still pretty new to hash (especially good quality hash) and was very impressed with the Citral. A fantastic taste giving such a smooth smoke and high, was my friends favourite smoke of the trip.

Stix - 1g Temple Ball
Having not managed to make it to the WW's in Haarlem we headed to Stix to get our hands on some Temple Ball, and we weren't dissapointed. The shop was a bit small for my liking, and seemingly a bit more upmarket than most coffeeshops. Had an interesting conversation with a german living in Amsterdam. Dressed in coloured robes and face paint, smoking a pipe he started to talk to me about Blair/Bush then proceeded into an inaudible rant shouting about aliens and burning people alive. I should've asked what he was smoking!

Hunters - 1g MK Ultra
What a menu, what a high! I'd visited hunter's ona previous trip but only remembered it aas the scooby doo shop and nothing more. Has a great menu and I was surprised to see some MK Ultra on it, so immediately bought a gram. One of the strongest Sativa's I've smoked with a deep heady buzz.

Resin - 1g HP 13
Nice decor (higher quality than most CS's, similar to stix) although both of these shops were down the bottom of my list. Couldn't beleive the price of some of the ice hashes (70E per G for unreal Resin hash!). The service was pretty poor as after finding our choices to be out of stock the bud tender almost assumed we'd try their most expensive weed HP 13. We did, and it was a pretty strong smoke (similar to the Kushage from GA it looked very unnatural bright green) but not amazing.

Jungle
I know very little about this shop, its name was Dutch with the word Jungle underneath. didn't buy anything to smoke but they had a raised section at the back with several sofas and sky sports but kept it's cosy CS atmospehere. England were making a mess of the cricket so we didn't stay for long

Siberie
My friend, a self confessed 'tea monster' wanted to head back to Siberie quickly to sample another flavour of tea. Finished off the MK Ultra then headed into the Centrum for food (same pizza as the first night) then to Old Church.

Old Church -
As it was peak time (about 8/9 o clock) we didn't expect to get a seat upstair, let alone the big window seats, but we did. Gret spot to sit and people watch for an hour, even better at night than on the previous morning.

Pink Floyd - 1g Umma Gumma
What a taste, I couldn't beleive the sweet taste given by just one hit off an Umma Gumma spliff. Gave a nice relaxed buzz as well, making it one of my all time favourite smokes. We took up residence in the middle floor around the big table and were joined by a seemingly never ending group of around 20 spanish students.

Off to bed on our last night in Amsterdam, we weren't flying until 5PM the following day so would still have a few hours toking the next day.

Does anyone know what the deal is here? My other half tried to buy a Space Shake from Greenhouse Effect and was told it's illegal to put hash/weed into milkshakes/smoothies... yet it's legal to sell cake when the hash has been cooked with the butter in the cake (making it deadly) ....

when i was there this time last year, i got a couple of space shakes from greenhouse effect...and was offered hash in a smoothie somewhere else...cant remember where....but, sounds to me like maybe another law changed.....sounds like the're government is slowly chipping away at the laws of the forest.
